I see the orbital batteries on the ship list. Is it correct to assume these will be seen in 3D combat and we need a model of them?
There is a bit of a problem. To make the six spheres as seen in the original game's 2D image of the battery you use up to many polygons to be able to make it look smooth. If we do need the model I am going to have to go to a sign high poly sphere but with six side nodes.

Do we need 3D orbital batter models for the games?

The original plan was to include orbitals in the 3D tactical combat, so I'm still planning on going this route...

Ohkey Dokey, I will work through the Federation Transport I and mossy on to the Federation orbital batteries after that.
What is that in the distance on the left margin?

are you deleting the unused faces on the orbital bateries?

Orbital batteries are mainly used for defence of planets from orbital attacks.

You can allways come up with your own unique design of an Orbital Battery..
Why does it have to have speheres in every direction? It CAN turn you know...

1st one - looks too much like a starbase...textures arent't quite
2nd - Lookin good!
3rd - not bad, but it kinda looks like a kitbash from Warbirds heads..
4th - great
5th - a bit strange looking..

1: had not updated the texture, work in progress
3: Yes but you could make the same point about the Warbird's head regarding it's use in the Starbase. I like to see a definite look, a stile, for each race. I like the look of the Warbird's head.
You can tell at a glance if the weapon was made by a dwarf, elf or ork in Lord of the Rings. We can do the same.
5: and old design and we can replace it when the time comes.

Teh very shape itself is not the problem Kenneth. If you want it to RESEMBLE a warbirds head, that's coool. Frankly that looks romulanish.. but it mus NOT look THE SAME.
Hell, that orbital battery even has it's texture, complete with hordes of windows?? WTF? OB's are automated and not that big...

Thanks for taking the time to give me these pointers and encouragement. I know you can do a better job.

Really, all ouy need to do it sort out that texture...
alltough it looks a bit high in polycount for a orbital battery..maby some optimization is in order...how many polies does it have?

Well, for an orbital battery? that might be too much.
You're gonna have a horde of those munchkins and they are taking up as much polies as a Galaxy??? Optimize....

Mike says 2,000 for an OB but I can see your point about the hoards. We can fix that if and when we need to.

If these are able to fight in combat, are they going to be built in the regular queue or in the shipyard queue?

Oh...I hadn't thought of that! Orbital batteries are not yet implemented in Supremacy because more coding is needed. Currently they are considered as a special building and you can only build one of each special building per empire/system/planet. There is no way to set it to infinite at the moment. (Obviously it will still be limited by system power production though) Adding the orbital batteries as a "ship" or "station" would help to get around this problem...but then there would be issues with power production then because they would be an object in the system rather than an object ON the system, if you get what I mean. Mike might be able to get around this problem with some programming wizardry though. We'll have to wait and see what he says. Good idea, Comtraya!
