They are the ones you can select when playing the game, i.e. the Coalition of Planets "con_music.ogg" (bote's is making trek a mod for legal concerns so the names are different but you should get the meaning ;)), the Heyouns "han_music.ogg", the Khaorons "kha..." and the Rotharians "rot..".

I think it could also help to actually play a round or two. To quote the creator of our current tracks:
I played the BOTE version, interesting, haha it's basically the music starts and you jump right into the game. I'm kinda annoyed by some effects like the ringing tone over each button tho its authentic. Of course sounds are the polishing touches, for the visual I'd like to see transition screens and maybe a brief to each empire.

But back to what I know :) The music seems to work well and I think I know what I'm aiming for now. I was listening to the Romulan track (which is from Star Trek: New Worlds btw) and I now know what kind of feel is needed, atmospheric, not too over-bearing but still with motifs. So the current Federation track works well albeit I'm going to be taking pieces out of it and developing them into other tracks, more mellow, less themey.

And yeah if ya'll were wondering, the themes I have out right now, they are of course base themes I started with and will continue to evolve them to a more game state. That's why they are so packed with melodies and so busy, I'm going to probably extract parts of them and develop them into other tracks so developers have a wide range to choose from.

While writing this I notice the Romulan track he mentions is still the same. We definitely need a complete new one for the Rotharians. We already exchanged the old klingon track (which was unknowingly also from ST:New Worlds, klingon_encounter.mp3; there were unclear contributions back then and we had files we did not know where they came from. since then we took more precautions but it seems something slipped under the desk..) with one of davumajas new ones. Does someone still have ST:New Worlds and can check which file the track was there?

I am working with Jig to set up a audio area for the upload and sharing of music and voice acting. We will set you up with access. Welcome.

Supremacy has five major races, Cardassian, Dominion, Federation, Klingon and Romulan. We can break music down by them including combat and non combat modes. There is also menus. Can you think of any other areas? We have over 100 minor races so it would not be unique music for each of them. :borg:

eventually, when cdrwolfe got his new equipment and is able to capture in-game 3d tactical battles vids, we'd need trailer music for the battle engine. btw. wolfe, I think the engine would already make up for a good teaser vid, don't you think? ;)

Thank you for the welcome :)

There are possible ways to break down music. One can be non-combat unique themes for all races and a generic combat music (three or four tracks) for the lot of them.
Another can be generic ambient music for all races, and unique combat music for races.

I was thinking of making some general themes and decide on the course of action. I do have some ideas, even a track for a trailer (if one is to be made) almost complete. Upload space can and will be handy.

Would also like to work a bit on the Borg samples, to make them a little more machine-esque, if that is ok with you.

We Borg would like to have a new sound. We need to work on our image. :borg:

Please go to this link
http://star-trek-games.com/
Create a login if you have not already. Under Resources I added an Audio selection and Jig just created sub-folders. If you need more sub-folders just let us know.

For now just link me to your music and I can upload it to the audio section for you. I will be uploading some music and voice acting today. I will include some voice acting that may be helpful in a teaser trailer.

Hey Sandman, i'm glad the legalese I wrote in my PM didn't frighten you away! I'm the one that directed Sandman to this thread guys, although I'm not the one that directed him to the site in the first place. Sandman introduced himself to me on friday but i've been away for the weekend which is why I haven't been around til now.

Whilst Jigalypuff and Kenneth are making the new music folders for you on Star-Trek-Games.com, you need special access before you can upload files to the server. If you have trouble uploading files, let me or Jig know and we can update your account details for you.

As the guys have said above, BOTE has six races, four of them playable and Supremacy has five. However in Supremacy, you can only play as the non-Federation Empires in multiplayer mode. For that reason, it is currently more important to have Empire-specific music in BOTE than it is for Supremacy. This will obviously become an equal need once race selection becomes possible in Supremacy at a later date, however.

The music for both games appears to be in the .ogg format. (Ogg Vorbis) I don't know if the games are capable of playing other formats, but if you have trouble creating files in that format, there are free file converters available, so that won't be a problem. Just let us know, although I imagine a professional probably has access to better programs than we do.

Hmm...I like the Disco remix of Star Wars. A Trek one might be fun. Make it so...

The audio section is up and running. So far mp3 is the allowed file format. Mike, the man behind Supremacy, asked us to use that format. Jig can allow other file types if we need them for upload.

I have uploaded some voice acting intended for a trailer. They are under the individual races. There are also some recordings intended for use at menus.

We lost some of the music online when SharePoint went down. I will look around for my backup of that and upload them later.

Let us know any changes you would need in the subfolder arrangement.

well, supremacy/resources/music/ folder has ogg files in it instead of mp3, so I guess ogg is preferred. Well, let's wait what mike says when he pops in.

What music has been Lost, Kenneth? I've got my own backups of all the original random collections we had;

  • Bird_of_Prey_Decloaks_24.mp3
  • Cardassian Music.mp3
  • Klingon Long Music.mp3
  • Klingon Music 10.mp3
  • Klingon Music 11.mp3
  • Klingon Music 12.mp3
  • Klingons_24.mp3
  • Romulan.mp3

Bird_of_Prey_Decloaks_24 and Klingons_24 are apparently from Star Trek 3 though. I do not know where the others have come from.

I've also got all of Davumaya's music saved. I believe BOTE already uses some or all of this music;

  • Ambush Attack Battle.mp3
  • Ending Theme.mp3
  • Federation Theme.mp3
  • Federation Theme Serenity.mp3
  • Opening Theme.mp3

Let me know if you need any of them uploaded.

Lots of replies :)

File format is no issue. Standard is non compressed wave file, from there on I can provide with any compressed data format. That is the least of the concern.

I did make an account on http://star-trek-games.com/ will use that platform to upload any tracks. Will also inform this place that I did make an upload. What I would like to have is another folder, named something like "random themes" or similar, name not important. There I can upload any music that I make that is not tagged as unique racial, music that we can perhaps decide on its' use when more people have heard it. Let me add, if needed I can process any in-game vocal samples to give them that special edge production-wise. Some compression, some dynamics, some overtones, some reverberation, or well, anything.

I was watching some Borg Vs. Voyager episodes tonight and have a rough idea on how to make a voice sample sound Borg-ish. So let me know if we do indeed need that, I can work something out.
Will also make some ambience, perhaps it will be found useful later on.

Hm.. I guess that is it for now, next thing will be uploading some music I guess and we will take it from there. Should see some uploads in this week. We can then discuss on possible changes and possible uses.

I asked Jig to make "random theme" folders in both the music and voice subfolders.

One of the things we lost on SharePoint was all that sound effects that MOE put up. I made a .rar out of my backup but it would not upload to "sound fx" folder so far. MOE may have more luck. It looks like we can only load one file at a time in mp3 and the zip or rar fail.

The other music we lost was a number of recordings I took from US military bands. They were all free of copy issue and can still be found online if we need them.

If you have trouble uploading files have MOE upload it for you. I will be out of town on the road starting on the 24th. I will be home in two week and only online intermittently.

I have added to the audio folder the combat voice acting that was developed to go with our 3D combat engine. There is more on that SharePoint link. We have all the races covered on SharePoint but the Dominion has not yet been recorded by Wolfe. He is busy working on the 3D engine itself and working on his PhD.

Thank you Ken.

If there is any issue with the uploads I will let people know (OMFG HELP MEEEES, or something like that :D)

Mid this week should see the first upload, some battle music, a possible trailer anthem.

Its easy enough for me to get the sound effects again, Kenneth; I raided them from Armada 1, Legacy, and Starfleet Command 2. I might be able to get some of the effects from BOTF as well. It'll take me a good few hours to check and rename them all though. There were over 500 sound effect files in my last .zip file and there will probably be even more this time.

I could upload the individual files but not a zip or a rar of them all.

I haven't forgoten about the music lads, real life issues came in the way. Should have something up, perhaps tomorrow morning.

Did try a few things about the Borg voices, they need some revamp, I have some ideas and did a few tries, it does look good.

So, I was thinking, any chance to work on these, or should I just forget about it?

Sorry Wolfe, I haven't got a copy of them. I just had a go at assimilating myself though. I uploaded it to Mediafire.

I made it by recording myself, then I lowered the pitch of the sound file by 5% and saved the file separately. I did this again so I had another file that was at 90% pitch. I repeated the process at 105% and 110% pitch as well. I then merged the five sound files (Four with altered pitch plus the original) into one. As I only adjusted the pitch and not the speed, the sound files matches perfectly. I then applied a strong Flanger effect, a strong Phaser effect, a Living Room Echo, and a Living Room Reverb. I then normalised the file at 70% volume to reduce the sound of my breathing and background noise.

What do you guys think? It's one way of making the Borg voices. I made it using NCH's Wavepad program, which is like a much more powerful version of the standard Windows Sound Recorder.

I like the complexity of the thought behind the process :)

It's not bad at all. It is though a little more unintelligible than required imho.

What it lacks is a fat chorus and harmonics. I was thinking that to get that neutral solid pitch of the voice you need some vocoder propably. Remember the episodes: Not in one single case did the voice of the Borg fluctuate in pitch.

So, my guess is, add harmonics, add second and third / fourth voice, pitch shift it, chorus, some solid dynamics, some distortion and a subtle reverb.

Sounds like fun, I will give it a shot sometime after I upload a theme.

It's probably unintelligible because of my accent. I'm Welsh.

I haven't got any other sound programs and it was just a first attempt. I'm sure you'll be able to do muh better than my unintelligible mess. :)

First theme is up (thank you MOE). In same folder there are two more files, skip those, it's the same track mistakenly uploaded (I told you I'd do a noobish thing).

Anyways, listen up, any feedback is appreciated.

Yes, I like it as well. It would make a good background for the game. It could also serve in a game trailer. You open on the galactic map and other civilization interfaces with that music playing. Then a specific major race runs into a conflict and you jump to the combat engine view and the combat mix audio for the specific race.
http://star-trek-games.com/index.php?op ... nfo&id=175

As regards the Borg voices. I recall that early on, next generation, there were many voices when the Borg spoke. You could not understand what they said. Later it was just one voice but manipulated to sound electronic. Then you could tell what was said.

Hey Sandman, this is very nice! For me it could work as a Federation theme besides being in the intro...

PS My dear friend Sandman, I humbly offer my services as your manager

I am very happy you enjoyed it. I too think it has a cinematic feel to it. It could serve both as trailer music and in game music.

I have my mind on some ambient themes for now, will provide links soon I hope.

Ambience tracks would be useful for the galactic map or system screens. I've heard a couple of people mention that they don't like the current music. Whilst I don't personally think there is anything wrong with it, it would by nice to have some variation.

ppl at our german board like it too, sandman :winkthumb: . it could also possibly be a start menu sound when setting up the game and the options whereby setting up a game usually doesn't take very long once you did it a few times so a shorter version with quicker main theme appearance, perhaps even with a calmer theme, would fit more in that case. but as trailer sound, it's perfect.
