Yes I think we should, my friend. To me it's not free and thus, unusable. And what does limit use mean?? Free is free to my knowledge, no holds barred. I have nothing against any musician that would want to join in but... free is free. I think Voyager, TNG and DS9 are commercial trademarks and should be left aside.

Forcefully, we will eventually encounter a few notes from some commercial song, I play only a C Major chord and Zip! I already copied another song! That's why Copyright companies have what they call a tolerance degree(maximum 16 bars, with or W/O differing instruments). Without this tolerance, I wouldn't be able to play at all without being sued. :vulcan: Illogic, wouldn't it be? I'm using this tolerance with care but there's so much stuff done since so many years, it's virtually impossible to make a completely new song.

Anyway, on we go with our life and let's rejoice for what we can do.
Ok It's sleep time for me now, past 11:00 PM.
See you tomorrow!

Well, but CBS's Star Trek copyright is unique in case of fan projects. Slim took a look at it and apparently we can use anything from the show as far as we don't make a profit out of it or don't hurt the franchise.

What Vjeko is referring to is that Paramount pays the actor or artists for the work and retains all right. Paramount then has exclusive rights to the content and not the actor or artists. That makes us beholden to Paramount to not act against are use of the Star Trek franchise. They have a history of inaction with no profit fan project. We would be assuming that in all cases the artists have given all rights over to Paramount.

If someone is not comfortable using any of that content then that is fin with me as well. Especially if it is quality work like we see here now. It is the safest road in any event.

That is good as long as there's really no profit being done in any way.
And about CBS and Paramount and Warners, and others,
most things has to be done by contract. Every time they sign an artist for a job, they make him or her sign a contract that includes that all they (the artists) have done inside the company belongs to the company unless there is an arrangement or arrangements signed by copyright Lawyers, Notaries or Men of Law before the contract was signed in which case the contract is invalidated. There has been many justice cases where the artist would try to protect his work from companies to keep their rights from being "violated", so to say. That's why they make sure that the Work to be done is really original and new while the artist is in contract. For that, they hire a lot of researchers that search every Copyright companies possible in the world, before they sign the said contract. It's not a law, it's the contract clause number 1. And written in small characters. I was faced with that once when I was to work for a Production company. I canceled the contract right away.
Even if a game is said free, some content could be copyrighted if the arrangement was done before in a "contractual" way. Sad to say but some times one may have the idea of using parts of a free game to make another free game but he cannot use those copyrighted parts and he doesn't know it until he's faced to the problem by that company.

And there's so much other hidden things that one has to know that it's best to have a lawyer with you when you set foot in those companies.
I don't intend to be negative, I am just being careful. To me free has to be really free, for all parts.

As long as there aren't any contracts involved anywhere, it's safe to use. And I won't object to that.
We must read between the lines when They say:

as long as we don't make a profit out of it or don't hurt the franchise.

Sometimes, hurting the franchise also means having a product that equals or surpasses the original quality.

When it comes to Star Trek games that is a really low bar to get under.

Thank you!
I will rename it: Einstein's Color. Is this Ok?

Now, I'll work on the Map Theme, unless Mike wants to keep the original one.

Good day friend!

Yes, please work on a map theme for the Federation. The renaming sounds cleaver as well.

Thanks!
I guess Einstein goes with Science.
I started something on the Map Theme but I think it's much too heavy for a map song. It seems more like a war theme than a Map. I'll have to think upbeat, not war beat! . I'll upload it here as soon as I got a few seconds done. You can then listen and if it's not good, I won't be sending it to SharePoint because being an Earth music, it wouldn't serve elsewhere.
Here, you can simply delete it and forget about it, is it ok ?

I have not heard anything bad so far. If we can not use it on MAP we may find a alternative place. MOE needs a new theme song.

Ok friends, it's on SharePoint finally. Fed Theme_44s_Gino Véziau.

Well if we can't fit it in here, it will be your Theme MOE! If it's for you, I'll rename it : Eenie Miny...MOE! . But don't you make yourself any illusion! When my expert friends here will have listened to it, you might as well lose it!

Great, can you just reduce the tempo of the middle part. It's the music that will be heard most of the time and it has to be more slow, not a lot more, just a little.

Sure friend! I can reduce it after the Violins Intro, as soon as the drums get in.

There, it's done. New name: Fed Theme_51s_GinoVéziau. Slower and more balanced. I felt that the instruments seemed tossed up to each other. Now it's more "Ventilated", so to say.

What do you think?

Yes, Fed Theme_51s_GinoVéziau is a better fit. That is an amazing body of work so far. You will know more about all this when you hear it play in game. We can make some changes later if we feel there is a need here and there.

There are only a few items left open like Romulan Espionage, Dominion System and Cardassian Science. Great work Happytrek! Music use to be one of the most inactive parts of the forum. Now it is the most active. Would you know anthing about coding 3D combat?

Thank you friends.
Sorry Kenneth_of_borg! I would have been glad to help you but I know nothing about coding at all.

There are also the small 30 seconds parts of all these musics to make afterwards (the easy part) and The Random (5 seconds) Events. I will be needing your guidance for those also.
You are a really great bunch of friends. I like working with you guys! :bigthumb:

Well, I am going back to work now! On the songs.

Hello everyone!
I've finished the Federation Map song: Fed by Fed_Map_2m00_Gino Véziau.
I renamed the small one also.
The Federation Section is Done! :winkthumb: . Except for the Presentation Theme.

I think I did something good. If there's anything wrong, please go ahead and correct me.
