some free sharecg.com terrain images: http://svn.star-trek-games.com/birth/sh ... images.zip (could be I already posted them somewhere, anyway, I just recently uploaded them again after the demise of sharepoint) They can sure be used for various purposes including background for random event images.

Yes we are. That is very nice work. If you are interested in doing more work PM Mike for access to upload to the folder on SharePoint and check out the list and file requirements here: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2413&start=0

I’m glad you like it.
I’ll put some things together, and send them over see if Mike is interested. I might even add a few of my own twists on some the ones already up.

It might be best to get access to SharePoint, uploaded them and then link the images here so we can see and comment on the progress. Mike is busy writing code and my not want to take time to pass on each image. We can all do that in the forum as work progresses.

Ooh thanks for these, Valcoren! Even if we don't use the random event images, could you send me the .png originals anyway? We might be able to find a use for them later on. Waste not, want not. I have some comments on the images though. Please don't take these as criticism, they're just ideas for improvements. It's up to you if you want to make these changes or not. Firstly, all of the images that we have so far have backgrounds of one kind or another associated with the main image. Since all of the images that you've provided are planets, could you possibly add a space background? It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just a low-level starfield or a nebula or something. That would help to maintain consistency between all of the images that we have so far then. The big explosion image that you've provided would be perfect for the Weapon Misfire event, so i'll add that. Could you send me the original .png for this image along with the other planetary event images? We've already got an image for the Polar Shift event. It was created by Sj2290. Unfortunately he hasn't been on the forums since he made the images though, which was a good few months ago. As i've said, if you could send us the image for it anyway, we might be able to find another use for it. We haven't got an Ice Age event, but it's definitely worth adding to the list. I'll add Ice Age to the list of events. We haven't technically got a Drought event, but we do have a Famine event. Could you possibly add some dying plants to the bottom of the image or something? (As well as the space background *if* possible) Sj2290's Solar Wind Change event image might be useful for you if you did this - you would just need to adjust the colour settings to make the plants look brown or something. We haven't got a Bio-Hazard event as such, but we do plan to have plagues in the game - that's why there are hospital ships. I'll tell Mike about your image so he can tell me where to add it to the game for future use. We've already got a Radioactive Explosion image, which again was created by Sj2290. We'll have to have a vote on which image people like best or something. We'll keep them both though, just in case. We might be able to use one of the images for a sabotage event or something though. Thanks again for these, Valcoren.

Thanks again. If you upload them to SharePoint they are available for download into the game. http://www.botf2.com/Image%20Library/Fo ... ents&View={2EAB3CAC-2EF3-4EA6-85DB-87B0D9B58BA0} Take the Random Events folder. Scan down to the low end of the list on page one of this thread to see all the events that need images.

I don’t mind doing images, but I don’t like the idea of doctoring someone else’s work. It is like asking a tattoo artist to cover another's work. The last artist has good ideas in place, but I believe they can be done a lot better.

Sj gave his full permission for us to use his images in any way that we like Val, and his name is credited. I suggested using the plants from his image simply to make life easier for you, and because doing so would help to maintain consistency. If you know how to add plants onto an image yourself then you can do so. The extent of my image editing expertise starts and end with MS Paint so I don't know how hard it is for you to draw such things.

Valcoren, these look brilliant! I actually prefer the Nexus one with the starfield. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that one... Anyways, could you send any .png images to either me or Kenneth in future? We are the ones really in charge of uploading stuff there. I'm not really sure how often Mike looks at the stuff we're uploading, so I don't know if he knows where we're putting the Random Event images. I need to poke him about the random events again as well. He still hasn't said whether he plans to include my list or not. Perhaps i can bug him into submission...

here is some more pics. I'm up to 30 new images at this point enjoy. I have been considering changing out the star field on some of these; the one that is currently being used I think looks a little washed out. Feedback is a plus thanks, -Val Random Famine Drought: Perfect growing conditions: Student Prodigy:

I will have to check this out when I get off work. The image links are blocked by the office fun filter. Anything worth seeing online is blocked.

You managed to draw plants then, Val. Sorry about my previous comments but I just didn't know how easy it would be to draw something like that. My graphic skills extend as far as MS Paint. I particularly like the student prodigy one, it's exactly how I imagined the image might look like. Where are you keeping/sending the original images, Val? They're not on Sharepoint and I haven't received any PM's/Emails off you yet. Or are you sending them to Kenneth?

Or are you sending them to Kenneth? no worries I started off using MS paint also in fact I created my first starships using paint, sadly all those images are gone. I use Photoshop CS4 Master Collection and Wacom Intuos3, I have them all locally still. I just feel silly sending one'sy two'sy files. I'll send them once I hit 40 images plus I have decided to change the background on the older ones, so toss those if you have them I sent a folder to Mike that had about 10 or 12 images in it.

Doing an RGB-BGR colour swap in Irfanview makes it look more like the Wormhole from DS9, since that's the only stable Wormhole we know of. Hope you don't mind me making changes, Val.
