The purpose of this thread is to display the images of the minor race special structures as they currently stand. If there are any structures that do not have an image, then this is because one hasn't been made yet. If this is the case, I would encourage anyone that is reading this to please have a go at making one.

Alternatively, if you think you can make a better image than those that are shown here, we cwould also liek to hear from you.

For races that appeared in Birth of the Federation, we will be using the old pictures for their special structure - or at least until a better one is made. Please focus on the races without a structure first though! That way, the development of the game will go much faster. :wink:

Once you have made your pictures, either upload them to the site (Or a file hoster of your choice) and post a link to them in your posts so people can see them, or send the images direct to me via email or PM, and I will post them for you.

The names and bonuses of the structures are those found in Dafedz's Minor race list. As such, they are subject to change.

This thread is NOT for discussing the stats of the structures. If you think any changes should be implemented, then please post a thread elsewhere. This thread is purely to display structure images only.

Any white parts or blurred areas in the images are the result of the application of transparencies to the images. These "problems" are invisible in the game!

@TLM

If you can try to match the quality of the other pics as in lighting and enviroment around the structure and texture style and quality.

Your buildings are good but are still along way i feel from complete to "fit in" with the others. Also some pics MOE posted still needs work if they can be ficed up as well.

Just a bit of constructive critism i hope you dont mind TLM. In no way is this post saying there bad in any form. Just that i would like to encourage you to develope them alot futher if possible.

Also @TLM your latest WIP building could be some sort of library or official building. Pick a slot above that needs filling in, style it to that race and add some enviroment around and it should be mint. Personally if was brownish and was styled to cardassian it could do for one of their buildings.

The other buildings you did is one could be bajoran temple perhaps? And the other a primitive refinary for enterprise era if there both re-styled to said positions and time periods and enviroments added and rendered out.

Those aren't in the Minor race structures thread in the staff room, Jig...where did you find them? :?

I do admit that I missed out the Akaali, "Bajoran Temple", Barzan, and Xindi ones though. :oops:

I agree with Skeeter, The_Logical_Man. We're not asking for anything too fancy, remember the pictures will likely be shrunk down to roughly the size of the BOTF ones, so we're not asking for a masterpiece here.

We're just asking for stuff to "pad it out" a bit. Put in a couple of trees, some clouds, anything! It's just to fill up the black spaces around your work, that's all.

And if you can't think af anything, make your structures bigger! If you look at the BOTF pictures, they fill up the entire thing.

Aldeans episode was mainly the cloak shield around the whole planet not a shield "shield". (moe this needs correcting on the list above).

Even tho the render is really good it wont fit with Aldeans at all i think.

Perhaps that fish race on a ocean planet might be suitable for that render and have some sort of special enviroment building that gives a bonus to the system of the fish ppl for whatever.

I think you mean the Antedeans by the "fish people", Skeeter. They were the ones in BOTF who had the ocean harvesting thingy for a 100% food bonus.

Like I said in the big post, the stats are those created by Dafedz. I noticed one or two more mistakes, so i'll mention them to him and see what he thinks.

What sort of bonus would a Planetary Cloaking device give in the game though?

+100% System defenses?
+100% Ground defense?
+10% Internal security?
Something else?

That picture is absolutely stunning, General. If you do use it for the Antedeans instead of the Aldeans, then all you need to do is add some sort of structure onto the ocean, sorta like an oil platform or something. This was their original structure from BOTF:

The Aldeans had to stop using their cloaking device (as well as the rest of their technology) When they shut down there main computer which was producing radiation and making them infertile.

Because they'd depended on their computer to think for them they didn't know how to build anything anymore and would have to learn it all again.

well, I used a different program to do the terrain than the athmosphere, and thus the rendering program doesnt like external models, so im trying to get my oceanic platform to sit on there and look good.

I should have the final in a few minutes.

Very nice stuff all round, and again thanks to Matress for compiling the data from the original list. A few omissions though which I've noticed, all additional structures for certain races:

-Tellerite shipyard = 100% ship building.
-Ocampa Hydroponics Program = 50% Food
-Zahl institute of Technology = 10% Research EW.

(and the Yaderans Quadritronics Lab should be 'Quadronics Lab')


Matress and I are discussing some of the discrepencies, and if I can at all remember my original thinking :lol: I think the gist of it was thus:

Heh...you forgot to mention that you don't remember the Algolians... :lol:

Na, I don't remember them either. Anyways I did a Google for them, and according to memory-alpha, an Algolian was present during an Archaeological symposium.

Now I know that is just one individual, but perhaps instead of giving them a +1 Morale Empire-wide bonus, we could give them a small research bonus, for researching aracheological ruins?

I've added those missing buildings in, now. I must've missed those buildings coz I was using the search function to find the races as I compiled the list. It was putting the race at the bottom of the screen, so unless I moved the screen down, I could only see one structure next to each race.

I guess I was getting lazy... :oops: :lol:

If the Aldeans were so reliant on their technology, perhaps they should have a computing bonus? Kinda like the Bynars, who were practically symbiotic with their Planetary computer.

For the Malcorians, perhaps they should still have a science bonus, but have it as a small system bonus, rather than as an Empire-wide bonus?

They could have a +100 research bonus or something, kinda like the Pakled bonus in BOTF.

The bonus would be semi-canon then coz they must be good researchers if they managed to achieve Warp-drive so early in their devlopment...

General, you can actually see the "edges" of the Ocean on both the top-left and bottom right of the screen. As Skeeter said though, a quick crop, and the edges are gone, so there's no need to worry about it. :wink:

i can get the oceanic platform on the flat image, but it doesnt look as good as I wanted it to be.

I suggest you scratch the platform, and just use the planet - I can decrease the land mass, or make islands.

With the Malcorians, I'm not so sure that it's a matter of a comparatively primitive race teaching the Federation about warp fields so much as contributing a new mindset. Looking at a problem from a new angle in research can certainly help out in the long run. Of course, I do think you're right that the original game simply threw that propulsion bonus in because it had to come from somewhere. If in the new version other races could provide the same bonus, then maybe the Malcorians should have a unique bonus more along the lines of their civilization. Since they seem to be very xenophobic, maybe they would give a bonus to some kind of internal security program--keeping others out, they did end up catching and keeping Riker after all--or have a high resistance to foreign appeals once they've joined you? Those would seem like somewhat more logical "abilities" to me.

As for the Aldeans, I don't like the idea of them never listening to another diplomatic offer ever since that would mean you'd have no choice but to conquer them if they side with another race. I think they should have a research bonus or unlock some special technology since they were clearly highly advanced. (Yes, they had to stop using the technology, but are we to believe that no one ever thought about trying any of it for even a momentary use? Flinging starships around seems pretty impressive to me.) I'm curious, though, what type of cloak did they have around the planet? Was it one of those phased-type cloaks? If so, maybe you could use the planetary cloaking ability to render the planet/system immune to an invading fleet or Borg attack. This would obviously need to be balanced somehow for gameplay sake--maybe it takes 3 combat turns to charge up enough to cloak the planet, or the cloak can only last for so many game turns before needing to cool off so as not to kill the people, or possibly the cloak kills a percentage of the population each game turn that it's left operational until it gets down to one million people or so left (killing off the whole population would be pretty dumb).

I'm normally skeptical about fan-based kind of stuff, but this site seems to have some well done images, including the Federation mini-starbase (for lack of a better term). Even the ship designs which look kind of stupid mostly have some very professional looking images created of them. Just thought I'd throw that out.

The thing about the planetary cloak is that you would have program in Planetary Cloak as another, specific game resource. Such cloaks don't appear anywhere else, and for such a minor race as this, it would be a lot of trouble. Planetary shielding though is an existing resource, so it makes sense to exploit that instead.

Maybe the Malcorians could have system only research bonus as you say. But the main issue with making the list was to try and balance out the available resources for each sector. As it was Research was already quite high in alpha and beta, but in this instance for the Malcs it does have worth, and logic.

I know people might think the structures look a little strange, but me and General have been talking on MSN, and it does actually look alright once the picture is shrunk down.

The images in BOTF were 120x100 pixels, so it doesn't matter too much about uber detailing the pictures.

Anyways, i've shrunk it down and have added it to my big post.
If anyone has any thoughts about it, let Nemitor know. :wink:

I've updated the Antedeans with this picture now.

I also resized all the large pictures so that they are the same size as the ones from BOTF, since I assume they will be that size in the game.
