Post subject: | INGAME MUSIC - MUSICIANS WANTED! |
We are looking for people who would like to have a go at making music for the game(s). Whilst we already have some music, we will need more - lots more. If you would like to have a go at making some music, then please say so in this thread. If you have any samples that you'd like people to listen to, then you can upload them to a free file hoster, eg. Mediafire.com and post the link to it here. It is extremely important that ANY WORK SUBMITTED WORK MUST BE ORIGINAL. We cannot accept any music that is copied directly from a film, game, or any other source. We could get into deep trouble for doing so, which is why this rule must be enforced. Any music that is later found to be stolen will be removed and any other work submitted by you will be reconsidered. However, this doesn't mean you can't use existing music to inspire yourself. All we care about is having great music, however you get inspired. Have fun with your work, and remember, we need music for the all the Empires - the Federation, the Klingons, the Romulans, the Cardassians, and the Dominion. We will also need music for each of the game screens and tactical combat! ...And don't forget the Borg... Remember: The Opening Screen is about welcoming players to the game, so put some thought into it. The Federation is about peaceful exploration. The Klingons are a Warrior Empire. The Romulans are a Secretive and Enigmatic race. The Cardassians are rigidly Militaristic. The Dominion are Spiritualistic Conquerors. The Borg...well, watch First Contact! Tactical Combat is exciting! All of the music is now being stored on our Sharepoint Site. EVERYONE is welcome to access and download the music from that site, but only those people who have an account approved by MStrobel will be able to add, edit, or delete files. |

Ok, I've posted some mp3 files from the defunct Star Trek: Universal Evolution that will be re-edited and cleaned for BOTF2. The project downloads can be found at http://savefile.com/projects/637983 One composer is not enough for a game, a cool game surprises the gamer all the time and never stays too static so multiple files for different races, scenarios and such are important. You can compose in midi using programs like Finale or NoteWorthy, export them to midi and render them in programs like Audio Compositor. Those trained to compose should know this already. SaveFile.com is the place I'm using to post files for upload. If you are classically trained but have never done your own rendering or recording, then you can send the midi file to me and I can render it into mp3 for you using my synths. This is a GREAT way for people in college music programs to get exposure and use their theory skills for something fun! You will be credited! Remember for game composing that people will listen to the piece hundreds of times so monotony and straight-forward melody lines are not the best. Short motifs and changing dynamics are generally preferred. Lastly, this is not American Idol! Its not So You Think You Can Dance! Its not Pop Stars or Nigel! All skill levels of composition are welcome. The emphasis being original, "reimagined," fresh, creative. DO NOT REMIX FROM OTHER TRACKS. It should be 100 percent produced by you by your own resources. We also will want to shy away from obvious Trek motifs like the Klingon horn call, Trek opener, etc. There are super expensive copyrights and special requests that have to be made even to use a few Trek notes! |

davumaya, can you e-mail me the updated MIDIs that you used for those recordings? I'd like to try rendering those on my synth. Cheers, Mike |

Hey Strobel, sure thing. Sorry its taken so long to get back, bah this new job has gotten me busy. I'll be putting graphic design on the hold and concentrating on music since its easier to put together day by day. So la, I've become a game composer |

Oooh, Strobel like. Keep it coming . I was kind of disappointed to see the ST:UE theme get bumped to the Ending Theme--it had really started to grow on me. Oh well. I still have my evil plan to inject an orchestral version of the Starcraft Terran theme into the middle of one of these . |

i thought it would be a good feature if ya could add ur own playlist of music to your games so you could chose like 10 tracks on ur pc and have them play in a loop dureing the game so you could vaery it at all times and then everyone could get what they wanted as well as having the good music that had been shown just the abilty to add ur own or is this not posible im pretty sure it would be simple to do |

I think the idea of having an inbuilt music player in BOTF2 has already been aproved (like with the XBOX) |

Hey there, can someone recommend some inexpensive or free music software that could be used for in game music? I have several ideas, but haven't been able to use my old music programs since I upgraded to WinXP a coupla years ago lol |

Not being a musican myself, I can't help you, Jam. Have you tried googling for free music compositors or anything? That might help you. I'm sure other forum members may be able to help you with this as well. Obviously I can't condone using programs that you haven't paid for *cough kazaa* as that's against the forums rules. *cough morpheus* I've got a bit of a cough, haven't I? Don't feel under pressure to make anything, although the more that we can get, the better. Download the stuff that Davumaya has created if you need inspiration, although we will not tollerate plagiarism. Jigalypuff's threat in the second post above is serious so don't give him any reason to use it. ... I deleted your double-post for you as well, Jam. |

Post subject: | Re: A Call To All Members - Musicians Wanted! |
I resampled Eric's BOTF2 Finale (previously the Universal Evolution theme) using my Yamaha MO8 keyboard. I tried adjusting the instruments to use my keyboard's better voices, but with so many tracks, I started running into polyphony issues with the more complex sounds. Thus, this recording uses the original General MIDI instruments. I didn't crank up the reverb effects like Eric did on his recording, so it sounds kinda "synthy", but you can also hear some of the more subtle nuances better. Let me know what you guys think. Another revision of the BOTF2 Finale, this time with better intrument voices. I had to record them as individual tracks and then combine them, but it worked. Unfortunately, the background noise also got compounded, so it's not a very clean recording. I should invest in some better cables. Anyway, here it is. Let me know what you think: http://www.armadafleetcommand.com/botf/strobel/BOTF2_Finale_R3.mp3 |

Just downloaded both versions MStrobel posted. I think they both are realy good! (to be honest, I didn't hear much of a difference between them...) The other link with files seems to be empty. There is only an option to post additional files. It says "No files uploaded to this project. Please login to Members Area and upload one or more files to this project" If the files are as good as the one MStrobel posted, I'd certainly love to hear more of them! |

I've got copies of all the music files that have been uploaded so far, but i'm not at home at the moment. I'll upload them when I get back, which will be in about three or four hours time. |

I would comment on them, but I don't see where to download the music files. Besides, if it's any consolation, I'm slightly tone deaf. |

Post subject: | Re: A Call To All Members - Musicians Wanted! |
Ok, i've uploaded all the music that I have to a free file hoster. The music files that Davumaya and MStrobel have made/edited are in their own separate folders in the zip file, whilst the random BOTF2 music files that i've been given over the last two years are just lumped together. If any of you think the music has been taken from a film, episode or whatever, then DON'T tell me! There has already been a discussion on this and we already know. This music is meant only as an inspiration and some of the tracks are original pieces, so please don't start a spam war about this and just enjoy listening to it. The download is 44.21Mb and is available from Here. |

I just downloaded both soundfiles and to be honest, they sound more like a the settlers or anno theme than a Star Trek (or SciFI) Theme. But this just my opinion. |

You have to remember that they are works in progress - and the more musicians we can get to work on making music, the better the end result will be... So is there anyone else out there who wants to have a go? |
