Yeah, don't use screenshots, all I've made them using material from Doug Drexler's blog. Also, it doesn't matter if pictures don't match models since we will replace some of the models, and no one can know what models we have(no 3D combat engine)

I've just been chatting with Vjeko1701 about some of the modelling that is required. He asked me if I could do several more ENT era Klingon ships (e.g. http://drexfiles.wordpress.com/2009/06/ ... ss-tanker/) and I said that I probably could, but detail is always the issue, as I'm sure you know you have to plan these things before you start modelling.

I know that there is a 5k poly limit for models, but we can probably get a significant amount of detail from normal mapping. However, this all depends on what the models are going to be used for Vjeko1701 says that that'll be used for the combat engine, when it is created, in which case 5k polys per model may be a touch high, depending on the numbers we plan to have on screen.
This led me to ask if we have a design specification for the combat engine, as this really dictates the limits of our 3D models. Is there one? If not, should we think about creating one?

5 000 poly limit was set by our programmer Mike Strobel. In worst case scenario i can use my Poly-trans software and with one click split by half models poly count.

Ok, but we don't know how many ships we're going to have on screen or how the combat will work? Things like that. Also, will this be developed into our engine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uq1xt68LhI ?

The reason I ask is because Id like to relive some battles from DS9 :D

That makes two of us. Which one is your favorite? DS9, retake DS9, Chin'toka, retake Chintoka, or assault on Cardassia?

Got to be the retake of DS9. That was the first time in Star Trek that we saw a massive Federation fleet in action. I remember the end of the previous series, when they were driven off DS9, and you watched the Defiant fly past the camera, the camera then turns to track the ship and we see a Starfleet armada for the first time. My jaw nearly hit the floor.

Anti-Distinctlyminty, It is great to have another good 3D modeler working on the game. I did 2 Gron ships a long time ago. They are not that good but were taken from a model intended to be part of the re mastered TOS. You can find what they did do on StarTrek.com.

I am still on the road so am not online much this week. The shoot at the 20th Century Fox studios went well. I do not do this often and only work non union so it is neraly all background. You may catch a glimpse of me in the premier episode of Freshman. During the shoot the writer step in to rewrite a line where one congressman said he was from Arizona. The writer wanted to take out reference to Arizona because of the controversy currently raging in the US over Arizona's new law dealing with the arrest of aliens. I suggested that leaving in Arizona would let them deal with the issue in a edge way on the show. They decided to film it both ways and decide later what to air. We will see. They do not usually get suggestions like that from the background actors. At least I did not get kicked out.

Well, they are not that bad either. With some minor modifications they could be a great addition to the Gorn fleet.

OK, it is my fault. I talked Anti-Distinctlyminty into working on the backgrounds for one of the major races diplomacy and espionage screens. We agree that these images for our August release ranks above models for a 3D combat engine that we do not have.

As the only Commodore on the forums, I'd like to point out another flaw in the chain of command. Why is a surgeon giving orders in non-medical matters?

Lol Commodore is also a military rank. Actually according to wikipedia, it's a rank below admiral. The rank system on the forums is therefore totally wrong. No one has complained in six years though.

With adequate modifications (new textures..) some of these ships will be good enough for our game. They are similar to the only Sheliak ship ever seen (which was a colony ship).

I second it just because it was made by Atolm. I'm definitely a fan of his work, his designs just scream coolness and uniqueness but are also totally plausible designs that retain the spirit of the race he designed them for. No prizes for guessing this but my favourites of his designs are the Romulan ones hehe.

Actually, come to think of it, I posted links to some of the designs on the forums a couple of years ago.

Yeah I'm his big fan too but sheliak ships were his early creation for all ships in pack he uses same texture. I have on hard drive this model i think this is his best work ever:

Eww what happened to Battleclinic's site? They used to have a fantastic model database, and now it's just a free-for-all and spread over 433 pages.

But yeah, those are brilliant textures for the Siren model. They're brilliant textures for any model. In terms of sheer design though, his Ael'hlaiim class beats it hands down. I love complicated-looking models.

I hope he's changed his mind about not giving his permission. The game would look that little bit more polished with such uber quality models.

I know, I found them. That's what I mean it's now a free-for-all spread over 433 pages. They used to be arranged by game, race, and in alphabetical order. Now it's just the order they were uploaded in. Do they really think people are going to look through 433 pages? :mischief:

This is a link I used in the past. I can not check it out right now as the fun filter where I am now blocks this location.

The link isn't to the ships database anymore, Kenneth.

If you want the models, then point your browser to http://sfc.battleclinic.com/docks/browse.php. The link is for the Starfleet Command section of the site, but that's where all the Trek models are.

Another idea about the Federation Transport Ship III: The Sydney Class. Appearances in TNG & DS9 and Trekmania

Yeah, but it's a Personnel transport, not cargo.
