Post subject:  Jeffrey Combs

As part of my work as a communications officer here I have taken the initiative and I have just sent an email (through the contact link in his webpage) to Jeffrey Combs asking him if he would like to do some voice acting for us, and particularly as Weyoun for the Dominion intro. I don't know what are the chances that he will agree (especially since we can't pay him for his work), but nonetheless I took the risk. In any case, next I will try contacting some more people like J.G. Hertzler (Gen. Martok), Marc Alaimo (Gul Dukat).

As I said the chances are rather slim, but I will keep you posted.

My email is attached below (the forum link was truncated when I attached it here, but was OK in the email to Mr. Combs and also instead of the xxxx's I had my real name):
Quote:
Dear Mr Combs,

My name is xxxxxxxxxxx and I represent a group of Trekkies who are currently creating, from scratch, a fan-made, open-source and free to play Star Trek game called Star Trek: Supremacy, based on the legendary Birth of the Federation PC game.

The reason I am writing to you is to ask if you would be interested in doing some voice acting for us, reprising your role as the Dominion character Weyoun from Star Trek: Deep Space 9. The requested voice acting work would not be more than 2-3 minutes long and it would be part of our introduction videos for the various races in the fictional Star Trek world (please see some of the examples by following the youtube.com links below).

As this is a non-profit and fan-made game, originally created by our main programmer Mike Strobel in his free time, I am afraid we cannot offer you any payment for your work, other than our deepest gratitude and admiration for you and of course including your name in the game credits.

For more details please see the links below and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

I am really looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,
xxxxxxxxxx

You know they might just do it. I knew someone who knew J G Hertzler. Haven't seen him for some time. The idea here is to appeal to their loyalty to the fans. Most know how much they mean to us and would be pretty good natured about it.

Awesome work picard.

Go for it vjeko! I should say that this is not to detract from Blazeleedragon's voice work. He's awesome. Some of the original actors would just be an added bonus to this project.

Well I can try and send him a modified Captain Picard's mail...if he agrees with it.

Unfortunately getting actors from the show to do voices will be a legal issue i dont think we want to pursue. While a really nice idea and wow if they agree i just dont think we can do it because cbs would sue the game for voice/actor reasons. A fan game is one thing as long as it doesn't use actor likenesses as that also is a legal issue due to contracts between actor/cbs.

Unless I am mistaken somewhere but i do not think i am. This is why cryptic cant use alot of the characters from the shows/films due to actor/cbs/paramount legal contract issues in their sto game.

You have a point, they might be under contract. I wonder if there is some kind of statute of limitations.

@vjeko1701: Make it so!

@Captain Bashir: I am not undermining Blazeleedragon, I just thought this would be a boost for the project. Blazeleedragon's work is awesome

@skeeter: I am aware there might be a potential legal problem, but in any case we should go ahead and ask them. If there really is an issue with their contracts they will let us know (as they obviously know what they signed in the first place). Just asking is not illegal, is it?
