Don't know about them all, could you please explain them a bit?

plague
you lose a certain amount of pop per turn, you will need to build a medical ship to go save your people, it is also suggested this hospital ship could be used to improve relations with minors.

Post subject:  Re: The random events thread

Could a plague, containemate other systems as well, so that i could become a thread to your and other their empires?

Author:  jigalypuff [ 21 Oct 2004, 21:19 ]
Post subject:  Re: The random events thread

that would be cool, any ship (not hospital) in the system would have to stay there until the plagues is cured.

super nova, then star changes into either a black hole, white dwarf or neutron star

embeslement event, someones stole some money
someone dies and leaves certain stuff to you
asteriod hit so and so , so many population has died and the planet has changed type
a comet has hit the planet and the entire population of a planet has died
, just a figure twice as much as a asteroid
anchient artifacts have been found on a certain planet, recieve certain amount of reasearch points
subspace bubble has swallowed a certain number of ships in sector **(the same anomally that swallowed voyager in a certain episode)
how about an event were a nebula forms into a new solar system, so that we lose the occasional system and sometimes gain one

Post subject:  Re: The random events thread

Temporal disturbance- one system/planet/ship either experiences less or more time relative to the others and so either produces more stuff or less stuff per turn for planets/systems and for a ship either moves quicker or slower for a turn or two.

negotiated peace on an aggressive divided minor world so they like you more

Tribble (sp?) accident (for beginning of game), ship/outpost gets damaged due to explosion of tribble population

accidentally kill a changeling that was in a certain shape so their opinion of you will go down (if they are going to be a minor-i don't recall reading anything about them)

discover the meaning of life (well not really, just that episode where john luc picard meets a friend, goes with the enterprise to different planets collecting dna samples that make up a puzzle that the ancient "creators" (don't know what they're called) had made and then the puzzle displayed a message in a tricorder that most of the races in the galaxy were planted by the ancient race)-- this couuld increase the other other races liking you just the slightest amount cause they realise they are sort of related.

with changelings you mean the dominion founders? or others like with Kirk or something like that?

That's a good idea.

Archaeological Dig success

- The above could happen at random. There could be a possibility of finding some important information e.g. technology in the early stages of the game and later on in the game it could give up a bit of a story perhaps?

Hekaras Corridor incident?

- Early on in the game this random event could occur where an area (few sectors) become unstable to warp drive (impassible to ships) until an advanced stage of R&D is developed like in the force of nature episode from TNG

Discovery of Data (Dr. Soong)

- Finding a planet with Data on could perhaps increase experience for the ships in the area

Invasion

- Very rare event, can take the form of the Borg, Crystalline Entity, etc.

Yes i like that, a storm that moves to a certain direction. It could damage facilities and ships or even destroy them, so you have to be carefull with your ships, you have to evacuate certain installations, like a small sensor array or something.

Post subject:  Re: The random events thread

That would be really cool. Especially if it ended up in the same sector as a starbase, would disrupt all repair and refuelling assignments etc. :D

Author:  iwulff [ 22 Oct 2004, 15:14 ]
Post subject:  Re: The random events thread

yes but it would be especially cool, if you can see this storm on the map, i mean a storm seen with praxis. You know with captain Sulu.

It would be cool as a kind of electrical looking effect on the galactic map. The good thing about ion storms is that they move. :D

What about unstable wormholes, like the barzan wormhole. You'd enter the wormhole but the exit point could suddenly shift ti the other side of the galaxy. :D

Post subject:  Re: The random events thread

yes something like that would be possible, but one thing about wormholes:

NO DEADENDS!!!

Author:  SonOfMogh [ 22 Oct 2004, 15:23 ]
Post subject:  Re: The random events thread

Exactly! The 'bad' wormholes would either place you somewhere randomly, or you'd exit 200 turns in the future!!!

On the subject of being stranded. The good thing about fuel is that facilities are shared with friendly empires. As a result you could actually have a voyager scenario, with the ship making federation contact and becoming friends with empires and using their facilities, during it's 200 turn journey home. :D :D :D

how about tribbles? they cause starveation on a system for x amount of turns

Brilliant idea. Also causes a massive morale penalty on Klingon worlds, yet lasts less turns- as they are exterminated.

Post subject:  Re: The random events thread

i want to clear out what wormholes will actually do/be in the game:

This is what has been dicussed and sort of decided:

 no deadends like in botf
 when using a unstable wormhole, you could appear at a different place then planned.

What about wormholes, that move and dissapear? And then after a few turn appear again?

Anyway post here any ideas about wormholes, i want to put this in the TWAAO thread.

I dunno if i like the idea, of your ship appearing 200 turns in the future, although it has happened in StarTrek before.

Author:  SonOfMogh [ 23 Oct 2004, 11:37 ]
Post subject:  Re: The random events thread

The 200 turns in future thing is more a wierd anomoly than a wormhole, could be cool though.

I agree with all the other stuff. I don't think a wormhole should be that frequent, in trek there's only ever been one stable wormhole, and that was artificial.

I vote 2 types, stable and unstable.

Unstable wormholes either randomly move their mouths around the map, or disappear.

I don't like wormholes appearing out of nowhere, that could realy upset a game if it was near your homeworld etc. :D

Author:  iwulff [ 23 Oct 2004, 11:44 ]
Post subject:  Re: The random events thread

Well they should appear at certain known points. I mean a wormhole dissapears, then it will appear 10 turn later at the same place again, and will stay there for 3 turns for example.

It could also be that a wormhole makes rounds of a few sectors, perhaps 10. It will appear and dissapear in this route. So you ahve a indication where it will appear again.

you remember the "storm" with praxis, i would like to see those in the game as storms.

u mean exploding energy production centers?

Post subject:  Re: The random events thread

no i just liked how this looked like and i would thing it would be cool to have such a wave effect in the game, moving to other sectors. I already have it pictured in my mind.

Author:  marky [ 23 Oct 2004, 13:30 ]
Post subject:  Re: The random events thread

lol

of course the wavefront would lose piower as it moved

Author:  iwulff [ 23 Oct 2004, 13:32 ]
Post subject:  Re: The random events thread

yes ofcourse, perhaps after 10 sectors or something, would be cool though to have many anomalies, but they must remain to StarTrek.
