I think the old Vulcan building should stay. The Vulcan Science Academy! :D Mod it in after the game is done! It's the whole point of the game!

Klingon bonus? I don't know? Let's see what others think!

HELLLLLOOOO! KLINGON SHIPYARD BONUS! YES OR NO :o :o :o :o

Vulcan Science Academy- Definitely

Regarding shipbuilding. Each system will have a maximum capacity of 3 shipyards. However the energy drain would be immense so as a result only incredibly large and well developed systems would be able to have and support more than 1. Therefore Qu'Onos will be better than say Boreth.

Just in case anyone's new and thinking that increasing ship production facilities will mean lots more ships than BOTF- think again. Ships will take far far longer to construct, as a result there'll likely be less vessels unless your empire is huge.

Agreed :D

About the ship building bonuses. This is just my opinion, but i believe no 'major' race (with the possible exception of the Dominion) should build vessels any faster than another race.

The Dominion will have fast ship building capabilities. So if they have the resources they can build up massive fleets in no time compared to other empires.

Agreed, all others should be fairly equal though.

How much faster will Dominion create its ships?

This will obviously depend upon technology.

I'd say that the small fighters are just mass produced and could be pumped out very quickly. The larger vessels probably just a little quicker than their federation equivalents.

OK!
Shipbuilding will take longer then the orignial.
All races will be equaly quickly, with the exception of the obsessive-compulsive builders know as the Dominion, which will do it a bit faster!
For reference!

Anyone here play Imperium Galactica 2(IG2)?

I think laying out structures and planetary assaults like they did would really add more fun to this project. This would make spying fun as well.
The 3-d aspect of a ground assualt and micro manageing your defenses would make the more combat races appealing.

There was an IG2? Why have my operatives not informed me? 8O

I never owned the first game, but I did rent it for a while. It was sold out in the shops when I went to buy it, and I sort of...forgot about it...

The game is definitely going to have more micro-management in it. You are going to need decent numbers of orbital batteries, (Which will also defend you against Asteroids etc.) rather than be able to take out a couple of ships with only one battery.

Troop transports will likely be more vulnerable to your defenses, but ships will be better defended against them (Coz they are long range)

There will also be lots of new structures in the game. Each race (Other than the Federation) will be made by modders (Basically anyone - and even then someone might 'remake' the Federation)

The modders will decide on what the structures are, what they do, and their specific bonuses. Perhaps there will be races without bonus buildings, perhaps there will be some with loads. It's up to the individual modder. The mods will be made available on this site, and you will be able to download them as you want.

Unfortunately, you won't see actual ground assault or anything taking place (As in BOTF) but the entire 3D graphical system is being overhauled. Gavin and Jigaly are working hard to perfect it, but rest assured, space combat will be a much better experience than even BOTF ever was. :D:D:D

CVN, you missed the thread, coz there wasn't one!

I've been reading between the lines of the threads, and there has also been mention of you needing a couple of ships, to be able to take over just one planet - basically, you need at least two or three per planet!

This is to make the game far more realistic, since how can a single ship that carries say, 800 troops max possibly be able take over an entire planet? It wouldn't, unless the soldiers were Anubus's Uber-soldiers from Stargate, or there were simply no defenses on the planet! (Mizarians...)

Oh, and CVN, who in their right mind would make a Killer Oberth? (Except us...) :D

I love what you just wrote,Matress: How can 2000 Federation marines defeat 400,000.000 Klingon warriors?!?! OK, if the invade Romulus or Mizar, then I understand  ()
Just kidding :D
And in the game it said millions of Federation soldiers were deployed from a couple of transporters... :?
But about that, won't it be hard to get SO MANY transporters unharmed accross the huge map? It will be a challenge indeed!
I LOVE THIS GAME! (tears of joy)

I've only got five minutes until my next lecture though, so i probably won't do it til tonight. :(

No doubt you know that I put up the thread now (I just posted in it again)

I've thought of a new idea for a structure for the Federation (As if they don't need another one though) What about a structure(s) for the media/communications?

If you build a media network, you will be able to keep your people happy, because thy will be informed about galactic events. (might be detrimental during war though)

Perhaps it could even have other benefits as well, like a boost to counter-intelligence/internal security (lie to your people, and pass these lies' on to enemy spies) or perhaps give a boost to research (Your scientists will want money to fund research, and using the media could be a way for your researchers to gain this funding)

Perhaps the networks could bring benefits to your fleets as well, such as making it eaiser for ships' crews to remain in contact with their friends/family back home (If it is a communications network as well - which would use roughly the same channels' anyway)

The benefit could be shown as a small increase in the experience gained through battles (Let people know of new maneouvers, procedures etc.) or an increase in recruits. Such a system would be a massive boost to the Federation, and it would be something that the Federation would most definitely have (There have been several reporters for news services in Trek)

Is it just being pedantic to have a specific structure/system for the media though? There would be one no matter what, since the free press is such an important thing for the Federation. Even if there wasn't a built structure, we would assume there was one anyway, but I thought it might be cool if we had to build one from scratch.

this is just a thought.. but i think we should be able to build alien ships on their planets.. like if we get talarians, we should be able to build talarian ships on talar...
i think that would kickass

it was already decided there would be no building of minor race ships once they join you.

The thing was, ragez0r, why build a talarian ship, when you can build an Akira?

Minor races would, for the most part, have inferior ships so why build ships weaked then those you already have...

YRIDIAN

i can be the federation with cloaking yridian scouts... or cardassians with yridian cloaking scouts

that ship pleases me the most when im a race with non cloaking vessles.. and sabotaging the klingon or romulan to get these cloaking beauties doesnt always work...

You'll still be able to steal ships, Ragez0r!

You will have a lot more control over your intelligence networks and operatives this time, so you may be able to focus on stealing ships from other races (Not decided if this will be a specific option yet though)

If you gain control (Diplomatically) of Yridia, you'll still gain control of their ships. You just won't be able to build more of them. Yet again, I can remeind you that the game will be moddable, of course! :D

yes.. i knnow.. same concept as in part 1... u gain yridia.. u get their ships.. or u still klignon scouts... still.. i stand by my opinion.. we should be able to build alien ships
i mean.. when u start out.. the 1st command ship is the cruiser.. for cardies thast 310 shields.. lets say they hook up with talarians.. they can build the talarian ships that have 410 shields.. its a huge advantage when playing multiplayer.. but anyhooo.. just my crumpled up opinion :)
