This thread is for voting on whether the Borg are a playable race. Please do NOT post in this thread. There is another thread where you can discuss your thoughts on the Borg in this forum.

If the :borg: became playable it will give a ridiculous advantage to the borg player or the borg could be like what they are in armada were a few ships can easily take on a borg cube which is also a bit ridiculous. I think they should be left to their own :bigthumb:

Don't worry, they will be :). Perhaps the Borg will be playable (with support for assimilation and such) in Supremacy 2: Electric Boogaloo.

I could see that in the game Supremacy 2: Electric Boogaloo. We would have the :borg: as a very different but playable race. There would be very few, very expensive and very powerful ships that can assimilate. We can add that to the list along with that 3D galactic map. 8)

By then Abrams will be working on his third Star Trek film. :P

I say no.. but they should be a 'special case non-playable empire', rather than just a random event.

The Borg wouldn't be believable if you could play them. It is possible to make a mod for them, right?

the problem is that if you put Borg in playable race, you will have to eliminate it of the random events. So what do we do?

I say no to the Borg as their role is different to other species.

I liked the role they had in the original BOTF, where a random cube comes out of nowhere and you have to get your fleet together and beat it. But I think the only way the Borg should be a threat that way is when you discover them. So they don't attack when you're in early development, they only attack when you find them, and at random moments. Much they have done in TNG/ST:FC

If I was going for a sixth race to be included, I wouldn't say the Ferengi as they became minor as TNG went on and DS9 started, maybe a major trade non-playable race. But I think I'd go with either the Xindi from Enterprise or the Breen as they became a threat, the only thing that sets the Breen back is that alot would have to be made from scratch about them.

well if you rule out the Ferengi because of DS9 you should equally rule out the Xindi because of TOS, TNG, DS9 and VOY :).

Actually, they are briefly mentioned in the TNG...

as are the ferengi in ds9, oh wait, a little more than briefly ;). What exactly is said about the xindi in tng btw.? Are they still alive respectively compared somehow in size and importance to the Ferengi?

One race remains a race despite periods and the technology. In the database of Dafedz, there are many races of ENT to VOYAGER. The Talosians to Kazons. We must also say the Dominion was discovered in DS9 not in ENT or TOS and it's "a major race", however.

sure. it's more about how important they are throughout the eras. summing up all the importance and weighing it with general perception (The term Ferengi is more known to Trekkies than Xindi I think) will give the decision which race should go in sixth and which ones not. If there is any sixth race at all..

Right now I can remember two instances on the Xindi being mentioned in TNG (searching a bit might provide more).

1) One where the episode (can't remember which exactly) starts with Picard saying that they were passing through Xindi space
2) And another where Data mentions that the Stargazer was to be towed to some space station, called Xindi Space Station something

Actually number (1) indicates that the Xindi are still around by the 24 century (and not as a part of the Federation), while the 2nd that there is some kind of cooperation between Xindi and Federation, perhaps leading in the next 200 years with them joining as mentioned by Daniels in the Azati Prime episode in Enterpise.

If it's true about the Xindi being in TNG, then it's the first i've heard about it. (Not that i've looked) Of course, Picard could be referring to a different Xindi (The Enterprise Xindi homeworld was called Xindus but was destroyed so they had to resettle) and a lot of races have similar names. (Takarans, Takarians, Tamarians, Talarians) The name could purely be conincidental or a mispronounciation. Then again, you could be right and the timeline really was turning out like Daniels said.

Anyways, moving on to the game, the Ferengi have been set as a relatively major race compared to most of the minors. They have more ship designs and special structures than do the other races, and they will most certainly be getting an outpost structure now. They might not be an Empire, but they will certainly be big for a minor race. Obviously people will be able to mod them to make them an Empire as well.

As it seems you are partly right :ahem: , since checking Wikipedia reveals that the space station is actully: Xendi Starbase 9 (Xendi not Xindi), see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Battle ... Generation).

About the other mention, I will try to locate it...

So is this the discusion thread now or what?

Anyway my input (such as it is): how canonical do we want to make the Borg in game terms, how close to the story version will/should their Supremacy counterparts be.

If we go for a canon inspired approch we should add the Borg big time, I mean they basically controled most of the Delta Quadrant. What I would do is make the a 'Minor' race thats about as big as the next two empires combined (you could chose to have them in a game or not, and if they are they start that big). The AI would be set up so that they basically ignore everyone else until you show up on their doorstep with enough tech to warrant assimilation (Galaxy class and above pehaps?) and then they come for you

Playing them would be frankly boring (and pretty easy of course) and the event approch ignores their rather sizable territory IMO.

I made this thread with the specific intention of stopping multi-thread discussions. It's nice to be listened to. Tut.

"Tut" is the clicking noise that people sometimes make where they're annoyed.

As Dave said, he was also the 18 year old Pharaoh with the famous gold-and-blue mask.

Damn Mike you need to add drop-dead dates to the polls. FYI I voted for the borg being a playable race.

I have been thinking of a possible idea on this maybe one day expanding the game here. Players should have the option to select what sector to start in, and the playable races change to support the quadrent that has been chosen. (i.e. Alpha= FEDS, ROMS, KLINGONS, CARDS, FERENGI) (Delta = SPECIES 8472, KAZONS, HIROGEN, BORG, HIERARCHY)

I dont know how his would play out for multiplayer but I dont see any reasons why it wouldn't work for both play styles.

This is just a thought but figured I would throw it out there anyway.
