Openoffice Portable is a good solution if you don't want to install it permanently on your system but have the functionality when you need it.

We use MS Office 2007 at work, and I'm rather fond of it. I suppose I could install OOo Portable just so I can read OOo documents though :).

I've got Office 2000, and I like that. Office 2003 is prettier though. Never used Office 2007.

...

We've got sharepoint back now, so we're uploading the community files so they can be used by any of our game projects. We're therefore readily accepting donations of music, images, voice acting, etc again. :)

The next update contains the buildings and minor races content update that i've spent the last six months working on. It'll also contain any other updates that Mike has been working on, but I don't know what those updates are.

Mike had to go to hospital last week because of a nasty stomach bug, but he says he's fine now and *might* be able to post that update sometime tonight. Seeing as Mike is a human being and it's christmas though, I think we can forgive him if it takes a little longer though. :P

The Star Trek: Supremacy "Christmas Content Update" is now online, featuring vast improvements to the race and tech databases, courtesy of Matress_of_evil. As usual, the game's built-in update service should notify you of the update. Happy holidays, everyone!

Lots of improvements to the race and tech databases. The other empires should be more playable now.

I have a problem now running the Star Trek Supremacy executable file. It comes up with

(MY Directory)\SupremacyClient.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

It worked fine until the update i downloaded yesterday.

I am going to try a fresh download to see if that helps.

Hmm that's weird. It sounds like something didn't download properly. Make sure you delete your old version before you redownload it. You might end up with a file conflict otherwise.

...

No Jamie, no AI was included in the update - that won't be ready for a long time to come yet i'm afraid as it will be one of the most complex to program parts of the game.

I can give you a rundown of what my update contains though:

  • New minor races added. Some existing minor races have been removed or replaced by the new minor races. (We needed more info before we could implement the new minor races. The ones that have been removed were originally put in as "filler" races)
  • All minor races now have home systems set. An old bug that Mike has now fixed prevented some minor races have having predefined planets in their system. Gas Giants and Crystalline planets are now more common in minor race systems.
  • All minor races systems are now inhabited by the correct race. An old bug meant many of the minor races had human populations set.
  • New buildings added to the game. Some existing buildings have been removed, renamed, or have new build costs or bonuses.
  • All empires now have their own unique facilities. All minor races now default to building Federation facilities to reduce game loading times and memory requirements.
  • All buildings now have correct build costs and energy requirements set. Previously many of the buildings had no costs set.
  • All buildings now have correct upgrade and obsoletion paths set. Previously some of the facilities had weird path set that resulted in problems such as food facilities upgrading into factories, that then obsoleted all your energy structures so you would have to build and upgrade them from scratch.
  • New building, minor race, and ship images added. Some of the existing images have also been manually cleaned up to remove issues with transparencies.
  • New unique planet textures added or existing textures replaced. These include Andoria, Ferenginar, Mars, T'Khul, and Uranus.
  • New or updated game text added. This includes building descriptions, first contact messages, etc.

My update does NOT however include an updated shiplist. I haven't touched the ships yet. I will be working on the shiplist in the new year, although I can't say how long that will take because a lot of work needs to be done. The update will implement all of the ships, (There are several hundred of them) including their stats, upgrade and obsoletion paths, build and maintenance costs, and descriptions. Before anyone asks though, no, it won't include the combat system. That's not my area of expertise. :p

I downloaded the fresh version from the first page of this forum, then update and it worked.

Do you know how much of the AI has been created?

How can i help the Supremacy project? I am in high school (10th grade)and i know some information about computers. I am taking an AP Computer Science course which focuses on Java programming. I don't have any experience with creating models or anything complicated but i think i am a quick learner. I really like this project and would like to help out in some way.

I sometimes go onto the official Supremacy website and notice that Jigglypuff hasn't updated the page in a very long time. I know some information about designing a web page, so maybe i could help there.

The official Supremacy page isn't being run by Jigalypuff - JeanNYGUARD is in charge of the site. Unfortunately, Jean isn't doing a very good job of it, which is why all the links are out of date. If you ever try to manually download the game, make sure you download it from the very first post of this thread. Mike updates the download link whenever a major update is released.

If you want to offer your assistance, then by all means contact the developers. Based on what Mike has said, the AI is purely in the theoretical stage at the moment - none of the code has yet been written. If you want to help him with the AI or any other part of the game code, contact him via PM or email.

Alternatively, if you wish to help with the combat system, then talk to CdrWolfe - he's the guy that is developing the combat system, which will be added into Supremacy once it is complete. Wolfe actually started in the same way as you - he's teaching himself to program whilst he makes the combat system, so he would definitely appreciate any help he can get.

Well I just tried the new Christmas release, and thanks for putting the update up.
I found small little bugs with the diplomacy window.
1: when reviewing races even if you do not set up treaties they grey out as if you have.
2: either it is a graphics bug or you are just using a filler image but the logo for the Andorians is very pixilated.

The ship images for the Federation have a blue’ish colored hue around some of the new ships that were added. It is very faint but it is noticeable running at a high resolutions.

Other then that Great Job :bigthumb:

I thought the combat engine wasn't ready? What is on youtube then? There are four videos (part 1, 2, 3, and 4) that show off the supremacy combat.

Could you explain this to me?

Also, about the updates:

I know that the big updates are released at the time of their completion. However, how are the little updates released? Are they released as they are completed or are they held back until a package of small updates can be put together?

The combat engine is being developed by CdrWolfe - and he has released demos of his engine for people to play with, Jamie. That's why there are Youtube videos available. The most recent update added shield and pulse weapon effects, voice feedback effects, and general minor updates. The program is still a little buggy though.

You can download the combat system from Here but please remember it is a work-in-progress, just like Supremacy is. The combat system will be merged into Supremacy only once it is complete.

The Combat System Development thread can be found Here. Unfortunately Strings version of the combat system is no longer under development because he no longer visits the forums.

I was just playing the original Birth of the Federation, but it just wasn't the same as Supremacy, even in its uncompleted form. I have gotten so use to the graphics and functions of Supremacy that BOTF looks so old and out of date. I just can't wait for the full version. I want to thank all of you for this project.

This little Robin would prefer to be known as Warbird or any other threatening name. And no, I definitely don't wear a gay uniform. There's nothing gay about me, i'm just simply fabulous, darlings!

One little comment meant as a joke and you guys warp it into a question over my sexuality. Remember there are kids on here so shut up and change the subject. Your Romulan Overlord of Evil commands you so.

What does everyone think of the latest update? Anyone noticed any problems with it? Are your systems running out of energy too quickly? Too many buildings? Not enough? Anything not working as you expected?

I like the additions to the database and new pictures for the structures that were missing. I think that the systems are so far fine but when upgrading in industrial I still notice that it says 15 turns but i check a few later and that upgrade is done which is strange
But there is a problem with the federation Grade 4 updates not all being available like the industrial, power, university and I check the editor and they are not on the facilities list and I think they maybe problems with the other ones higher up in the replicators, plasma reactors, etc list. I still have the problem with turn processing when its calculating planetary production when during the previous turn I have multiple systems upgrading their facilities or when I order a large build order like 40 farms for example. It would just stop at the planetary production and it freezes and I have to exit it via taskbar and this happens every time after a few turns.

Hmm i'll have a look at that. Just to make sure though, you know that the way the facilities upgrade is different to in BOTF, don't you?

For example, the Federation don't have grade 1-11 fabrication plants - they instead have grade 1-4 Fabrication Plants, then Heavy Fabrication Plants, then type A-F Mass Replicators. (4 Fabrication Plant levels + 1 Heavy Fabrication Plant level + 6 Mass Replicator levels = 11 tech levels)

A similar sort of thing applies to all facility types except Research and Intel. The fact that you're getting problems with all of them means there is probably something wrong though. I've got the editor open in front of me and I can't see anything wrong though. I'll have to play the game and see if I can replicate the results independantly.

I haven't found that problem yet.

Maybe it is something with your Supremacy files. Try downloading a fresh version, then it will update itself. See if that works.
