Very nice. It is a shame she will be over the poly limit for the combat engine.

We can at least make videos with our higher poly models for our trailers. Current teasers can be without that, but some in future trailer we must use only our footage and with models like this it's gonna be beautiful.

Thanks you two. 1701 A is a lot easier than the Fortunate but partly because of the Lightwave training video I have been going through. The Fortunate is going to be very difficult to UV map and paint. So this is a training ship for me. (And of course I need more skills for the 14 Cardassians I have to do for the Obsidian order. ) Another skill is the animation of the images for AVI files. I've never even tried that. (Hmmm first film, 1701 A taking out a Y Class freighter...) Hollywood Bashir [Hey, my 700th post. Look out Matress I'm only behind by a factor of 10.]

You can see the forward photon torpedo launcher coming together. Also fired up the impulse engines. I was using the Red Admiral's ships as the pattern until I found a web site with actual shots of the model built for ST TMP. There was a side shot. I don't know, its possible he may have some of the proportions wrong. I ended up sweeping the engines back further and altering the size of the hull and saucer with respect to the engines. Here it is, not that you can tell much difference from this angle.

Boy you sure are learning the ins and outs of that modeling program. Are the impulse engines blue on that version of the big E?

Thanks Kenneth, I'm actually quite excited about the new things I have learned about the program. On the impulse engines: I think they are red or orange. Actually in the render above the vents are blue (as you can see) but the inside box behind them is actually red. I thought the two would blend and give a reddish / violet color. Nah Uh. Have started the difficult bridge section. You can also see the top of the impulse engine which I am rather proud of. I'll post a closeup sometime. BTW this model now has less polys than the saucer and hull did before I added engines, booms, impulse, shuttlebay, bridge etc. I have removed and keep removing tons of unneeded polys. It is a much simpler ship than the Fortunate. At this point, I can't believe I did the Fortunate (pulled it off I mean). CB

Thanks Zweistein000. Glad you like it. Thanks to Kenneth as well. I just might get the design manual.
Here is that closeup of the impulse engine. The first is from Light wave Modeler. The second is from the real movie model.

The color of the deflector doesn't represent its final appearance--the surfaces will eventually be covered with textures. The 'color' assigned to the raw mesh is mostly just to help differentiate the various parts at design time.

I need to do the deflector over anyway. The mesh is too dense with too may polygons. As Mike says, it is just a placeholder till the surface texture is put on. You are right however, it is blue. When I am done you won't be able to tell the difference between this mesh and the actual movie model Now that I have the engines, there is a Reliant in my future too. Galaxy Class, Soverign Class... You're not on Facebook, Bashir? Damn, you're missing out mate. Create a profile just for the hell of it. Most of us are on there and set as friends. Not that we chat much. It's more a platform for spying and plotting revenge. The beautiful lady is getting grander all the time. She still needs some clothes though.

Hey Captain - looking forward to animating it. For now I am learning the new interface for blender 2.55. It makes animation easier to do.

Thanks Kenneth. I am looking forward to you animating it too.
For those who wanted deflector relief, I have duplicated the original, down to the number of radial stripes. See below.
I have been having an interesting time looking at a photo of the original movie model, comparing it to other images taken off the web that people have done with 3D software. I am beginning to wonder if the one original photo I have has been distorted or stretched. The engines are WAY bigger on it than any others I have seen. I'll try to give you an example.
