Sorry for being so jumpy, but it's been a long day, and I find myself feeling rather irritable. Nothing a large glass of cognac won't cure ;).

I'm pretty happy with the display the way it is. It's enough of an improvement over the BotF interface, and it wasn't too much more work. Anything more complicated would just take too much time. After all, I'm only one man ;). I can't afford to be going back and second-guessing all of my design decisions, or the game will never get done. I'm sure this won't be the last game I ever make, so there's always more time to experiment down the road :).

Sorry to cause any problems over this, but it is after all only a minor, minor issue of cosmetics and ergonomics, nothing fundamental. But regarding the dismay and a possible alternative format for displaying moons, how does this graphic grab you:

http://www.trekmania.net/temp_files/ScreenShot0152.jpg

Just a mock-up for one feasible direction to take, if it's possible. It would allow the space necessary (or desirable) above each planet to display the bonus symbols.

I still like the idea of tooltips as well for this, but it's just a matter of what's easiest and quickest to implement...

Show the moons [gfx or text only] in the tooltips as well as bonuses?

Tooltips wouldn't be any harder... hell, they might even be easier.

Just had the best idea. The left of the system panel where you have system info. Have that change to display planet info including moons when u hover over the planets?

Image

Like so..

No idea, but really, not that much has changed since the first few releases. May as well hold out for the next one.

I've not managed to download any of them, these were my first attempts.

The next time I try I'll record the exact message for you to look at. I'm currently on dial up so takes an absolute age!

Cheers mate

Well, I've split the 45mb download into 10mb parts. Maybe that will help you:

Alright, one of my classes got cancelled this morning, so I had some time to tie up some loose ends and throw together one last demo release before the end of the semester. Have fun, and please READ THE RELEASE NOTES.

(See the original post in this thread for notes and download link.)

OK, so in my haste I didn't notice a rather obvious bug in that, after Turn #1, you could build an unlimited number of buildings that should only be built once (i.e. Wind Turbines). You can download the following file, and use the contained "SupremacyCore.dll" to overwrite the file from the November 27 demo:

Patch: http://www.armadafleetcommand.com/botf/strobel/FleetDeploymentFix.zip

EDIT: OK, fixed another bug with fleet deployments. The link above has been updated with a new patch. Unzip into your demo directory and overwrite the existing files.

That's a strange one. Have you tried setting up a multiplayer game and playing that way? You don't have to wait for someone else to join. Also, do you have any firewall software installed? I wouldn't think that would be a problem for single player, but it's possible.

Here's a patch that adds in-game chat for multiplayer games. If you install this patch, make sure the people you're playing against have it installed as well ;).

Thank you for such a quick response.

Yes I´ve tried setting up a multiplayer game. The game crashes as soon as I press ok when Ive chosen a galaxy size etc (ive tried not modifying it at all)

And I have disabled the firewall I had. No effect.

I went ahead and fixed a few more multiplayer issues. You can grab them this patch:

http://www.armadafleetcommand.com/botf/strobel/MultiplayerFixes.zip

As always, applying this patch negates the need to apply any earlier patches.

Jonne, I'm not sure what is causing your problem, but I'm afraid I don't have time to help you diagnose the problem right now. Hopefully I'll be able to help you soon, along with a couple other people that haven't been able to get the demo to run.

I tried the new update and I have a few comments. First one is minor, I used the single player mode for my first test. When I had to select the galaxy, the drop down menu appeared after the selection menu instead of in front of it.

In the game I noticed I could not create any starships. If you look at the left hand side of the picture below, you will see all the figures in 'requisition' are red and negative. Could that be the problem in some way? Anyway, I tried in several ways to construct a vessel, but when I scrapped all ships in production and hit turn again, on turn 12, the following error occured.

Looked a bit more into it. There seems to be a problem with ship construction indeed related to the officers I think. The problem is that the first number of officers keeps increasing. For instance for a scout it says 0/9 when you order the construction, 11/9 after the first turn, 22/9 after the second turn, and so on. There is some point, though, when the ship is constructed.

Also another question; once built, the ships do strand if you let them fly outside of their designated areas. But where can you see the current fuel of a vessel?

Let me explain a bit how resource production works any why you see red negative numbers in the Requisition panel.

Those numbers represent the status of the global stockpile of a given resource. It looks like "{0}/{1}" where {0} represents the total amount of a resource currently residing in your stockpile. {1} represents the net change in the stockpile since the last turn. When you're building a ship, that build project gets priority over any locally produced resources. Each turn, it tries to take as many resources as it needs so that it will have consumed all its required resources by the time that the required industry build cost has been met. If it uses less resources than are produced in that system, then the remaining resources get deposited into your global stockpile, an you see a positive increase in the Requisition panel. Alternatively, if it requires more resources than you produced locally, it will try to take the remainder from the global stockpile, and (depending on the amount of resources produced by other colonies) you may see a negative net change in the Requisition panel. If you have depleted all of your reserves for a given resource, but your build project still requires more, you may see "0/0" in the requisition panel for a couple turns, as that resource is being totally consumed by build projects, and there is no surplus making it to the stockpile. You can see the local resource production numbers in the system screen.

As for the apparent glitch with the ship resource numbers, the last digits of the rightmost resources are getting cut off. It's a known glitch that I keep forgetting to fix. So if it says 22/9, it's probably really 22/90 or something.

Mattress or Winterhawk ran into that same error you encountered, and I'm looking into it.

Thanks for the feedback!

k, that explains it. I do hope you intent to change it in the way that he sees the 19 realy as 19 and not that it will display it as 190. As 190 officers on a scout ship might be a bit too much ;)

Haven't realy found any other bugs except the crash I posted. Just had another crash when I started the game, but it went smooth when I tried it again. Don't know realy what caused it, though.

Anyways, I am glad it is comming along nicely. Keep up the good work!!

If you encounter any erors, always try to make a screenshot for Mike. It makes it easier for him to track down problems then.

Me, Mike, and Winterhawk have been heavily testing multiplayer and chat in the game over the last three of four days, and we encountered several bugs that Mike is fixing/has fixed.

The simple matter of the fact is that if it isn't played, the bugs won't be encountered! So if you find any, make sure people know so that the bug can be tracked down. If multiple people encounter the same bug, then it is obviously a problem.

If only one person encounters a bug, but it always comes up in the same place/for the same reason, it may be because of some compatibility issue. This can also be useful, coz Mike may be able to solve it. If there is a compatibility issue, you are unlikely to be the only one that encounters it, even if the others are quiet about it!

Don't think that submitting error reports is a bad thing; on the contrary, its good! The more bugs we encounter, the more bugs that can be fixed. We will not let Supremacy be anywhere near as buggy as BOTF!

Speaking of errors, if oyu happen to get one which mentions missing background.png or title.png it's probably because you installed it incorrectly like i did  .... silly me :)

I thought it was funny, when it came up with "This problem has been encountered by ....... and will be fixed"

Of course the name of this assaliant was.... "Wait who's that?"

"A Romulan?"

Zzzzzzzzzzzzap

"AAAarrrrgghh"

One quick question, does the demo include diplomacy and research, i swear it did before but with so many games out i get confused :D

No, it does not include Research or Diplomacy (yet). You must be confusing it with Birth of the Empires ;).

You may also be confusing it with the original Galactic Supremacy, which had Diplomacy but not Research.

Yep prb the original,

One Bug but not quite, is that when you click to scrap say an automated farm if you go to cancel and use right click you can do it but it also brings up the selection screen aswell which can be annoying
