Does this "feel" Klingon to you guys? (BTW, it's not finished, so keep that in mind.)

Wow.... *drools*

*wipes drool off face*

Well, I love the design! Only downside to it is that the font is a little bit hard for me to read. From afar, it looks like mandarin characters. :D

Yeah... one of the considerations that remains is the font. Still undecided on that. I've tried to remain true to canon for my UI designs, but sometimes, it doesn't seem to work.

For example.

Love the design, but layout and color just doesn't seem to fit well.

In the interim... a little fun.

And... the box art.

Keep the feedback coming!

the design is great! what I'd like to see in those red design elements a bit more often would be some color gradient. It's just one color and no shadow nor border but I suggest that's what you meant with not finished yet ;).

Ooh VERY purdy...but I also agree with the guys. Some shadowing and colour gradients would definitely improve the image even further. Starfleet Command 2's Klingon interface might of use to you.

Have A Look.

I find their gradients and shadow effects not that good, plus, it's way too much yellow in the overall image. Klingons don't like yellow, Ferengi do

You know what would be cool but an impossible task, having templates but for each specific star trek genre, ie TOS style templates, TNG style templates etc.

And much like civilization every time you change into a differant time frame or reach a certain tech level the template updates itself :)

but considering there are about 3-4 differant time frames it would be a huge task to do for each race.

If you're gonna kill Wolfe, you'll have to kill me as well - that was something I actually mentioned in my first EVER post on these forums in December 2004. SonOfMogh and Iwulff shot down the idea...but I ignored them and i'm still here. They're not. :(

actually, it should be possible. I mean if one just removes the gradients and replaces them with one straight color per design element, then that should be it, at least for TOS. The rest, well, I doubt it's much different from TNG anyway or am I wrong?

Replacing gradients/colors should be possible, and from the standpoint of graphics, entirely feasible. That would be a question for Mike. Will have a new screenie for you shortly.

Three possibilities, all subtle.

yeah that is much better but it's obvious now that metallic background kills impression (gradient and shadow) and creates TOS phenomen. I would like to see more sci-fi background instead of present kinda gothic one. Also present UI would be ideal for early Klingon era... of course this is only my opinion, keep up good work mr.Razor

dirty mess is the one i like, but sitll feels too clean, maybe its the res, maybe a low res upscaled in a game like botf did might be the trick.

I'd go for dirty mess. It always seems that way in Klingon ships and their world. Always dusty and dirty. I don't think Klingons shower too... :D

No offense, Skeeter. :D

I like dirty mess best as well, but I see what you mean about metallic, Zeleni. Even though it's dirty, it still looks clean somehow. Maybe it's too shiny? Can that be toned down somehow? Otherwise it's already looking much better. Great work, Razor! :bigthumb:

Thanks guys. I want an authentic, canon feel to all of these UI's. Along with a little community help, that is achievable.

Holy freakin' crap, I love it! It'll be a nightmare to recreate in XAML vector geometry, but it'll be worth it . The gradients can be done natively in XAML, though the cloud-like effects of the dirty scheme could potentially be done in software mode using a bitmap effect. Although bitmap effects can only be rendered in software mode, if the effect doesn't change, you can take a snapshot of it and render that in hardware mode. I'll look into it when I have a bit more time.

Joel, I'll definitely need your help breaking this up into a "grid" layout, with certain columns and rows remaining fixed and others expanding and contracting based on screen real estate. We can talk more once you've finalized the design. I'm pretty busy this month working on a side project for work, so I'm not on the forums much, but feel free to drop me a message on MSN messenger.

Will do Mike. Will have it done by the weekend, hopefully. My wife and I have a new house and it's proving to be a bit of a dirty mess of it's own. Will get with you on specifics, but I'm bearing in mind the raster limitations and doing my best to make it easier on you, while remaining true to the Klingon look and feel. I'm having some of the same problems with the Dominion UI, but will sort that out soon too.

I just moved into a new place as well, so I know how time consuming it can be :). No worries.

Thanks for all you are doing. It looks great. I have been in PC hell for a time myself. After that and family I hope to crank some more ships out. With the release date for JJ's Trek being pushed back to May of 2009 I figure we have that much more time before the number of hits pegs the needle. :waah:

PS I can give you a great price on an HD DVD if you are interested.

The game did have a Cardassian right-click menu for a while, but Mike had to remove it because of a bug that stopped some of the buttons working. He hasn't mentioned the UI since then though. We did have a thread somewhere in the staffroom about a Klingon interface but that thread has been dead for months now as well.

So no sorry, no new info.
