Hey you guys really should setup a donation section for Star Trek Supremacy so you can accept donations from fans to give you at least a few bucks in your pocket or at least pay for some new software / hardware to make the game with.

BTW I hope a Alpha build release is coming up. Anxious to see some AI in the game.

A nice idea, but if we get any financial reward for this, we run the risk of Paramount shutting us down.

Sigh... I'm with you there! We haven't heard anything for a while.

I wonder how that works... If someone wanted to help pay for software that could be used for this project or anything else for that matter would that count as payment. I know it is already murky waters just doing the project for fun with no support.

Well practally speaking, are they going to spend the $$$ for lawyers over a $500 - $1000 piece of software? Doubtful. However, in theory, that's their perrogative.

Well technically people can buy Mike or other's software that they just happen to use to develop supremacy with, I'm sure they will use it for other things too. If I buy my friend Photoshop and he later uses that to draw art of Nintendo characters and posts them on fan sites I'm pretty sure that’s not me funding his art. This code is open source and you aren't charging people for anything you are distributing, nor are any of you making money off this project so I think you sound safe, but that’s just me and I don't have a law degree.

And I agree, in part! Their prerogative is to lift fear and maintain respect...So y..yes, in some way they would spend the money. Spend a few pennies to make a few dollars? Odd, but possible, in the business way of thinking. Or tap my head?

well the sad thing is they wouldn't have to spend money cause they have lawyers on retainer. but im sure theirs a grey area where you can maintain the cowl of nonprofit status yet still pull money together to maintain the server and possibly buy some coding. youd just have to track every single dollar and make sure it wasn't used in anyway that might jeopardize your standing. it would take a paralegal to figure it out though probably.
