I've noticed that Remus is classified like a terran planet, while in Nemesis it's a desert planet without rotation. I know that it is easy to make it a desert planet, but is it possible to stop it's rotation?
Vulcan I believe is a Desert planet with a reddish texture, and not a Vulcanic planet(I'm not 100% on that)
Andoria is a moon orbiting gas giant, so is it possible to make a model of an Gas giant and a planet orbiting it.

So I made this thread so that anyone can post their ideas for more canon home systems not just for major but also for minor races.

With a moon, or in a dual planet system, it is called gravitationally locked when only one side always faces the other body. This is the case with our moon. I do not know about the rest.

Post subject:  Re: Canon Home Systems

In the game, i've set Andoria as a tiny Arctic planet next to a Gas Giant. Since the moons are completely random, this was the only way of ensuring there would always be a frozen moon near the Gas Giant.

As for Remus, there's a lot of confusion over the status of the planet, as people tend to make generalisations over climate. I did some research on this a while ago and it seems the planet has three climate zones; the side that faces the sun is a boiling hot, dry desert. Near the horizon line, the planet has a narrow, comfortable, temperate zone. And the side that is perpetually in darkness is a frozen wasteland. Thanks to centuries of mining, Remus is also full of toxic waste and vast caverns where materials have been dug out, making much of the planet essentially hollow.

Since the game can only have one type per planet, we need to decide on a single type. There are other concerns as well involving system population. Any change to planetary type in system Romulus will change the maximum population size and the growth rate. Romulus has relatively few planets, and reducing one of them from Terran to Desert would significantly reduce the population size. This would make it harder for the Romulans to compete with the other empires in terms of economic development, intelligence strength, research development, and industrial output. it would have a huge impact. For that reason, I've set Remus as a Terran planet. If people feel that Remus really needs to be a Desert then I will change it, but it would have adverse reactions that people really need to think about.

As for changing the planet texture, that's easy. Several planets have custom textures in the game already, including all of the planets in Sol, plus Andoria, Vulcan, Ferenginar, and T'khul. You can view the existing planet textures in your Supremacy\Resources\Images\Planets folder. Find me a useable texture that is 512x256 pixels in size (Or a larger image with the SAME aspect ratio) and I can add it in for you. I regret that I can't stop the planets rotating ingame though, as to my knowledge Mike hasn't added in such functionality. If he did, then we could experiment with changing the rotation of Uranus as well.

What about Vulcan, will it be set to desert?

reddish desert with some water, I am willing to do a texture for it.

I was also wondering will there be minor race wars? I know that minor races will expand and colonize systems but will they declare wars and conquer each other?

Nice work Vjeko.

Is there anybody from new members here interested to help in one particular task? (it's easy no special skills needed if yes PM me)

Any more suggestions?
I'm currently in process of making Cardassia prime, but will this be used in game or am I wasting everyone's time with this?

There will be in the game Vjeko. Maybe after cardassia you should do Breen Homeworld?

So, It's all up to me, one question, in DS9 it's mentioned that the Breen homeworld is a frozen wasteland, but there is a short conversation between Damar and Weyoun, where Weyoun says that the climate is actually very comfortable.
On what premise are we going to make the Breen planet?

You will find answer here just scroll down to Breen race. :winkthumb:

Woah guys, before you start making hundreds of textures, i've got to warn you that planets that have special textures need to be the exception, not the rule; more images mean longer load times and bigger downloads. Mike has specifically told me to keep the planet textures to a minimum. Remember that these images aren't just static, they are physically wrapped around a rotating sphere, plus they are considerably larger in size than most other images in the game. Mike wasn't all that happy that I added in the T'kul, Andoria and Ferenginar textures, but I thought they were special circumstances for those planets since they're so important in Trek. He will likely reject the images if we start coming up with textures for every single planet we can think of.

That said, we could easily change the texture of Vulcan without actually changing the class of the planet. :P

I'm impressed that you figured out the installation of the textures though as I didn't previously mention it. Mike had to explain it to me the first time I tried it. I assumed you could just add in the images.

I can't remember if i've previously released the planet textures that i've mentioned so if anyone is looking for them, here they are:

T'Khul
Image

Ferenginar

Andoria

I incidentally also replaced the texture for Mars with one that was a bit cleaner and redder than the one that Mike originally had.

*Edit - I installed the Vulcan texture into my game. Here's an animation.

I gave Vulcan a green atmosphere to see what it looked like as well.

Very nice with the textures. Did you make one with a black hole in the middle of Vulcan, like the new movie :P? Just joking..... the textures look great. Since the topic of "Which planets get special textures?" is going on, here's a list I personally think should get them:

Earth
Vulcan
Ferenginar
Cardassia Prime
Unimatrix 001
Qo'nos
Romulus
Remus
The Dominion Homeworld

Again, that's just my opinion. But yeah, keep up the good work on those textures :bigthumb:

Post subject:  Re: Canon Home Systems

Earth - done
Vulcan - done
Ferenginar - done
Cardassia Prime - done
Unimatrix 001
Qo'nos
Romulus - done
Remus - done
The Dominion Homeworld

And we should at least make generic Borg planet texture.

Post subject:  Re: Canon Home Systems

Unimatrix 01 won't be in the game so scratch that. The randomly generated planets have three unique textures (So the game is a bit more random), so we'll probably need three Assimilated textures. I'd prefer it if there were more than that though as remember you can have systems with up to 10 planets. More textures mean less repetition.

Remember the Dominion homeworld is set as a giant planet ingame, so it might need to be a tad more detailed than the other planet textures. That said, it still needs to be the same size, or at least have the same aspect ratio. But then again, it's covered by the great link, so it's not exactly got many features to show...

Note that I have made a new atmosphere texture called Remus that is used by both Cardassia and Remus, they look better with that atmosphere.

Feel free to leave feedback.

Also we can reduce the number of planet textures by deleting two of three Rouge planet textures, I'm 99% sure they are completely the same.

oooh these all look very nice indeed. I'm glad the Borg are getting their fair share of planetary textures :P. I'm also glad to see that we have all gotten over the whole "Mike has a heart attack for many unique textures" thing . Very nice indeed. Keep up the good work .

Here's the Great Link. I thought it would look better with no atmosphere, so I gave it the Assimilated Atmosphere as well.
