we started a German wiki at http://wiki.birth-of-the-empires.de/ - I think it's quiet good (and it's still getting better). The Wiki is a quiet good addition to the forum where discussion et cetera is done, but to find information most of the forums are grown to big. Unfortunately the German wiki dont have a translator tool (does anybody knows an addon?)
...however I think it would be good if anybody could start an English wiki and take care of it - is there anybody (native speaker)? I think it would be easy (but much work) to let google translate the German wiki sites into English and bring it then into native English.
for example here's my file of stringtable.txt - in column F is german, in G is English (I compared the German and English Stringtable) - this is a good help for Not-Germans :-) http://bote-forum.square7.ch/wiki_files/Downloads/StringTableDeutschEnglish.xls

I had that problem
but if you go to the torkani msg in the mod forum
and click on the sir p's void mod (translated)
everything's translated (backdoor, I guess) and from that msg, the forum's translated and you can access the German wiki (translated)
still a little confusing, but better than German - lol

I was thinking of making a few English wiki pages by editing the Google translations for easier readability. My current commitments prevent me from creating a new wiki all by myself, so I was wondering if there was any standard for creating English pages within the existing wiki? Pages for things like "End Turn" wouldn't be a problem since the German page is "Rundenende," but Duranium would be a problem. Perhaps "Duranium_(en)"?

well ..in my opinion a nice way would be this example http://bote-forum.square7.ch/wiki/index ... =Storylinealso practicable for all pages, doing first german and then english for each chapter => advantage: changes can be made in both languages by one step for finding "End Turn" in "Rundenende" I've made the English A-Z on the left side under Navigation. And also there is the search field.... Thanks for your willingness to start with this topic

How's this? http://bote-forum.square7.ch/wiki/index ... um#EnglishI used a new section to mark the English section because I couldn't get seem to set an anchor. I tried using English but it just gave me a red link called "Vorlage:English" that went here http://bote-forum.square7.ch/wiki/index ... &redlink=1 Can you check to see if anyone in the German forums knows what's wrong? I also left the table in place since it's already in English and I want learn a bit more about editing tables in wiki's before messing with them.

for wiki-tables I attached a excel-sheet - I hope it's running with english excel, if not just search in google for wiki excel convert
it's working this way: - make sure that macros are allowed (over line 1 "options" - allow macros) - mark the area you want to be transfered (for example "A-Z" b1 to c199) - press ALT+F8 - first sheet is wikioutput -> if filled out, say OK for the warning that the old output is overwritten - CopyPaste wikioutput into Wiki - then I add "sortable" at beginning (new: class="wikitable sortable") - then I erase the width-entries at the beginning before the column headings for automatic sizing
EDIT: When updating such a table, I don't overwrite the table head in wiki. I only copy wiki-source-code out of excel from line 1 upstream - so I don't have to modify the width-entries a second time...

well I think the pictured (see below) was enough - just think about ordinary reading people: - Germans one read "german" and "Einleitung" and in text "...." so they recognize: here is the German text - English speaking people are looking at the flag and maybe on content directory and recognize: there is the English text so Deutsch/German or English/Englisch is too much in my opinion -------------------- for big/difficult sites I prefer to make an own site: examples: - Hauptseite -> Main Page (English) - Hotkeys -> Hotkeys_English or Hotkeys_ english ? or Hotkeys (English) - FAQ -> FAQ_English would this be ok for you, XB-70 ? --------------------- generally I think we are on the right way to provide an real English wiki, not only Google translated

It looks better! If having the titles of the languages only in English won't be a problem for German readers, then that's fine with me. The script doesn't seem to work with the old version of OpenOffice that I use. I can't work on installing a new version until next week, but in the mean time I've figured out how to edit them manually. As for the titles of English only pages, I think something like Hotkeys_eng would be the most simple and easiest to type.

I assume 90-95% german people (playing BotE or generally doing computing) know basics of English. But reading a long (and difficult) text is also for me not as easy as reading german text . Please use Hotkeys_English: Me and other German recognize "_eng" not intuitively as "English". So I think "_English" doesn't disturb and is for everybody easy to recognize. It's too not much additional work. Thanks. For OO I found at google here: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hilfe:Tabellen#Hilfen - just try (there seem to be many ways) - Calc2Wiki - Calc2WikiTable - Ab OpenOffice 2.3 kann man Writer-Dokumente ins Mediawiki-Format exportieren.

Sorry I haven't said anything for the last few days. I have a midterm today and another next week, so I've been busy for the last couple of days. I'll try to get a few more articles done when this is over.

don't make stress to yourself because of BotE - it's a hobby fan project. We are glad of everything you get done , but there's no pressure.

sorry for my late answer - I almost forgot it anchors are set (wiki-inside): Duranium#English or AlternativeText (old way: Duranium#Anker:English -> "Anker:" is not longer necessary) A Table of Content (=TOC) is shown (automatically) when 3-4 headlines are defined (see http://bote-forum.square7.ch/wiki/index.php?title=Titan). From a TOC it's easy to get an anchor: right mouse button -> copy link adress -> delete "http:/ /bote-forum.square7.ch/wiki/index.php?title=" -> mostly ready, sometimes if existing: replace "_" to " " and something more. At Wiki-anchors space stills stays there: Example: Duranium is a resource#This is English
