There doesn't seem to be one yet, so here goes. Using british english as it seems it's what's used in the texts. Here's part 1:

British English is being used simply because myself and Dafedz (The two main database writers) are British. The game can support as many languages as you can think of though, so you could also add in the American language if you wanted. :P

Adding languages would considerably increase the memory requirements for the game though, so I wouldn't recommend doing so unless you deleted the British English first.

Thanks for noticing these .Iceman, i'll get cracking on updating the game. Please don't attempt to physically make these updates to the files yourself though as the game heavily relies on the use of the editor; you may end up breaking your files if you manually edit them and you'll need to redownload the game if you haven't made backups.

Being portuguese, any "version" is good for me :wink: I actually think it's refreshing using british instead of american. It's pretty much like the portuguese/brasillian thing - and it irks me a bit seeing stuff in brasillian... :twisted:

I've fixed most of the typos that you've mentioned, .Iceman, so thanks for that.

There's some points you should know though:

The Cytherians are supposed to have a Supreme tech rating - in fact, it should be even higher than that of the Empires. The Cytherians were a race from The Next Generation. They came from near the center of the Galaxy, and were made of pure energy, and were extremely advanced. They sent a probe out into space that made Lt. Barclay super-intelligent - and he made the Enterprise travel at something like Warp 200 so they could meet the Cytherians.

I've made the Brekkians a Beta Quadrant race to increase the liklihood the Ornarans and Brekkians will be neighbours. There were too many Alpha Quadrant races anyways. I also made the Vori a Delta Quadrant race.

The "Key" races is just something that is used internally by the game to determine which races can expand or have special abilities. The race identities must always be in capitals and must lack any apostrophes etc. The short name is the name that the race is commonly known as, (Eg. The Federation) and the long name is the full designation of that race. (Eg. The United Federation Of Planets) Don't worry about how it is written in the files, it's just the way the game works. All that matters is how the information is displayed, rather than how it is recorded. :wink:

Yes, the plus sign is shown by default. All that matters is the minus sign, which means the Cardassian Mining Program has a -1 morale penalty. Removing the plus sign is a programming issue not a typo, so we would need to ask Mike about that. I had to ask him to implement the ability to have negative values in the first place, so the editor wasn't originally designed with these things in mind. Since Mike is working on Editor 3, it may be this bug will be removed from that Editor instead. I haven't asked him about it though as I just got so used to seeing it there. :ahem: :P

Oh, sorry about that, I forgot about your problems. Grr I just sent you a second update as well! I'll have to update it.

I'm trying to avoid using attachments because the forums can only hold so many. I've already had to increase the limits twice in the admin control options since Christmas. Can you make sure you delete the PM after you've downloaded the files?

I've fixed the problems now. I decided to rewrite the Ornaran encyclopedia entry again so it flows better and makes more sense.

The Ornaran people are entirely dependent on trade and piracy to survive however, for they lack any semblance of self-sufficiency; another race, the Brekkians, exploited the Ornarans for a long period with Felcium, which they led the Ornarans to believe was a medicine for a plague that they had long suffered with. But Felicium was in fact a highly addictive narcotic, and the chief export of Brekka, and the key currency source of the Brekkian economy; the Ornarans were simply another customer for the Brekkian economy to serve. And so, the lie that Felicium was medicine quickly took hold on Ornara, and the people gradually became dependant on the drug. This dependency however came at a terrible price to the Ornarans, for their civilization ultimately failed in development and innovation, and they dwindled both socially and technologically, in their quest to pay for continued shipments of Felicium.

After the recent truth of the Brekkian drug trade surfaced, an embargo was placed on further trafficking. Lacking their only source of Felicium, their entire world has since entered a painful process of detoxification and rebuilding. Only time will tell whether the effort to help the Ornarans will bear fruit, but now that the lie has been exposed, their future looks brighter than it once did.

The descriptions vary in size, depending on how much we know about a race. The more we know, they bigger they will get. And remember, this is the encyclopedia entry, not the first contact report. The encyclopedia is supposed to be big because people *want* to read it; so they also want detailed info. It wouldn't make sense to put all that info in the first contact report since you've only just met them, and the first contact screen is a bit small. :P

I've fixed the typos. Bloody Felcium. :lol:

All I meant was that most (IIRC) of those entries (encyclopedia, not first contact) for minors are shorter. Actually, the original for the Ornarans IIRC was shorter too. That's all.

That might just be the way i've rewritten it; the original Ornaran entry was a single paragraph, but I split it up into three to make it easier to read. It is a *bit* longer than the original, but not as much as it looks.

I've fixed the Deuterium Plant. I've also added in the Moon Colonization structures, although Dafedz hasn't read my PM yet so they are far from finalised. I've also added some more names to the Nebula name list.

Check your PM's.

You mean the descriptions will not be fully disclosed on contact, and more info will displayed as time goes by? Never noticed that...

I'm not sure most people will want to read the descriptions. Some people just don't like big walls of text, some don't like to read period, others don't care, and others might not even find the descriptions buried in the encyclopedia.

@Mike:
Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to have either a window or a button (or any other way) that pops up a window in the diplomacy screen with a race's description (when it is selected).
