Post subject:  Combat demo crashes with DX-9...

The Combat demo crashes all the time when I choose DX-9 for the graphics. The error is attached below. I usually run the Demo on my laptop (2 Gb Ram, Dual Core 1.73, XP+SP2, Ati Radeon X1600).

However, it works just fine with OpenGL so i don't mind too much... (just wanted you to know  )

PS. Once, I saw the blue screen of death, however it seems to be common for my laptop lately... :gripe:

I have a better card than you. ATI Radeon X1650 512Mb.

...Ok, only a teensy bit better. Anyways, are you using XP or Vista? Crashing in Vista is a known problem, although I don't know if Wolfe knows what the cause is yet. If you're using Vista, he will definitely be interested in this info.

*Edit - what language is that bottom line of the error message in? Shouldn't it all be in English? :?

As I mention in the first post I run XP+SP2.

Actually, it's greek. It says something like "The pointer isn't valid" (or something like that). By the way, why should it all be in English 8O ?

Well it just seems strange to me that Supremacy would suddenly turn bilingual. I didn't know Mike could speak Greek, that's all.

The reason that there's Greek there is not due to Mike, but due to Windows (I have a greek version of windows). Usually most of the errors (and in XP this happens a lot) produce some message in Greek, and this is the case as well.

Actully they are both quite good. I also use Linux (the Slax distro) and Compiz (used to create interactive desktops etc) runs veeeery smoothly! By the way I run it from a usb stick  !

Hope you've got backups for your usb stick then. Just imagine it raining...being dropped on the floor...pressing the delete button... 8O

I used to have 2 Radeon 9250 (128mb) cards. I started getting green pixels all over my screen though. I decided to upgrade before they died and my computer became unuseable.

You can't delete the USB from within Linux (obviously) and I never use it with Windows  . Backups are irrelevant :borg: :borg: :borg: :borg: since it is a live distribution , which means I can use it in any PC and do my "monkey business" (download, fool around etc) even where I'm not supposed to... (library, campus, internet cafe PCs etc).
