HI,

Firstly i'd like to congratulate you on making one brilliant game, ive been playing it for about the past 3/4 hours and its really cool. however ive had a slight hicup.

First thing i noticed was that some of the images for the starting fed ships arent there, ie the colony ship. secodnyl my game crashed at turn 220 when it was generatin map. i was able to right click and i went to menu but i couldnt select anything and it still said generating map. I stopped the game and wetn back in and i cant continue so i tried to load and i got an error which directed me to error.txt which i have attached.

Once again truely brilliant game, its exactly what any fan of the original BOTF would want in a sequel. Any ideas when the final version will be ready for release?

Thanks,

Shinzon

Hey =GK= Shinzon, welcome to the forums! :)

This is a well-known problem; the game is a work-in-progress and our artists are working hard to make or legally acquire the missing images. But this will take time. The images will be added to the game via updates as and when they become available. There are certainly a lot more images missing than just the ships at this point in time, and some of the existing images will need to be replaced because they have been taken from BOTF.

Random crashes or freezes during turn processing are known problems, although we're still trying to discover the cause of them. The crash from saved games is actually a bug that was introduced in the last update - Mike (The developer) knows about this problem and will fix it with his next update. I don't really understand what the error messages mean as I am not the developer, but I do know what *some* of them mean. Unfortunately I haven't seen this particular error message before so I don't know what it means, although i suspect it is related to the save game bug; in which case don't wory about it because as I said, Mike is working on the fix.

Thanks! This is exactly the sort of feedback we like to hear. This game is being made by the community, for the community afterall, so if we're doing something wrong we want to know. As for the final release, it's impossible to say due to the nature of the game; it is a fan project that is being made by nothing more than unpaid volunteers from around the world. No one is under any obligation to make anything, and people come and go as they please. That means sometimes progress races ahead, whilst at other times it <almost> grinds to a halt.

"Final release" is also something that is difficult to define; the game currently lacks several major components, such as an AI, winning conditions, a combat system etc., but even once those are complete, people will be constantly improving the game by adding new ships, replacing the images, adding tech levels, modding it, and so on. This work will likely continue many years after the programming work is done.

For these reasons, I can't give a definite, concrete, set-in-stone release date. I can tell you that we're hoping to at least get the AI working by christmas though. :)
