The race-specific info is taking a while to write, which is one of the reasons why the game will be released as mods. I know this, coz I did my own version of the Klingon random events, which took
ages to do! Most of them are currently being used for the game as far as I know though.
The decision to release the game as mods was made waaay back at the start of the project. By focussing on each race individually, the devs thought they would be able to ensure the 'quality' of the mods. It also meant that they could then spend more time on the non-Federation races, because there simply isn't enough canon ships/buildings/info to make the game 100% canon.
Whilst they could have just stolen the stuff from BOTF1 where there was a gap in the ships/buildings/info, they instead wanted to ensure these things felt/sounded as though they were canon, but it takes time to do so.
Races such as the Dominion are the hardest to get ships/buildings/info on, so they will have to make a large bulk of their ships/buildings/info (I'm getting really fed up of typing that
) up from scratch.
Things have changed since then though, because I know that Jig has been working on the Cardassian and Dominion ships for some time now. Also, Dafedz has created several preliminary lists of the structures, ship stats, minor races, and ship names (Federation only) that
may be in the game. If you can make such things already, then surely the game is almost ready...
It is best to consider these lists as works-in-progress, not a definitive, finalised list, as Gavin has another 5/6 weeks of tweaking and changing stuff around, before the game is released.
