LOL Stumpy.. it IS the American way! lol kinda... find something new, investigate it and see how many way we can kill it off then say OOPS ! LOL

Truthfully it has happened with all peoples the world over not just the U.S. through out time as we know it. IT just seems we are the first to do so on an outer planet. :(
Kinda reminds me of that TNG show where they were tereforming a planet and killed all those crystal like being who lived in the sand in that salt water table..
LOL

Makes me question as to where would be the Correct place to land any type of craft. thinking about it, every time we land a probe or in the near future a maned craft, how much damage to the natural eveolution of the planet will we be doing?

meh. If were going to find life (which is logically AND statistically out there), then its highly likely that its NOT on mars. and if it is, then it'll just be little tiny things, and those arent the cool stuff anyway

Well I suppose techniclly we have found life. Those microscopic bacteria on that metiorite from Mars found in Antarctica. Chances are though any life we find in our lifetimes will be a lot like that...uness someone comes to us

Tall,

I can back up Chris on that one. The same type of Micrprobes (dead) were found on a meterorite that was dug up in the Antartic. Someone actually got the idea to check them against what was found and they did indeed match!

Nem makes an excellent point. Tiny little buggars are Not what most would be interested in as a life form simply due to we can not engage with them in conversation. But then most (general) people think a space aged race is going to be humanoid or a humanoid type. ( I see it as a typical "we are Superior" human responce) A bit arrogant on the part of our race in my mind.

Really? I'm surprised coz I would class these micro things as an alien source and i'm surprised I never heard about it. Even if they were dead when they go here, it proves something can exist else where no matter how bug and small.

Who else believes life is out there? (I might be pitching to the wrong guys here.....lol)

impossible NOT to have life out there.

Im talking on a Physics, Mathematics, biological, and philosophical viewpoint. Ive put heavy thought into this, and life has to be out there. It makes perfect sense. just use logic, reason, and common (uncommon actually) sense.

Yeah. Ive always assumed there was life out there, coz if space is infinate, it makes no sense what so ever that we're the only ones that exist in the universe. And as im a maths guy, statistically Nems right.

never heard of the infinite space (olbers) paradoxon?

if space's infinite, there should be infinite light reaching us meaning there'd be no darkness and we'd all be fried up long ago lol

of course this theory fails when regarding non-euklidean measures and geometries of the universe but also when it comes to dark matter (not) conducting light waves and decreasing densities of space..for the ones knowing these kinds of things.

meh.

lurkers/leechers used to annoy me a lot more.

Though I remember my days as a leecher, and I remember how most of the time I wouldnt post cause I had nothing to post about. And i was too 'afraid' to create a new thread.

though if you do have something to post, or just dont care, thats disappointing.

Well, I for once hope that any neighbours we have around the galaxy would come here and say "Hi there humans, we come in peace and we bring tons of Star Trek DVDs for everyone!" (well, whatever), because I think we are not going to be able to find intelligent life (meaning someone we can actually have a chat with) on our own for a long time...

Of course, I hope they also leave their anal probes at home, don't wanna have anything to do with those thingies... :P

as for being a mathematician myself, I'd be glad to hold lectures to you about it but I doubt you'd understand a single word of it without pre-diploma on that issue. It's much commutative algebra along with a lot differential geometry and (I'm still fighting with these english math terms although I so much like the language :D) plain topology.

I can only "redirect" you to the corresponding wikipedia sites, they are explaining it thoroughly and understandable enough for everyone (maybe some more or less crazy ideas for a story can be drawn outta there, but I'm not sure..) plus the extra-info for the math guys like me and kinds of me ;)

and eon, I'm also sure, digestion is a galactic-wide phenomenon and cannot be left home though I'm sure it also stinks so you're basically right ;)

I know this much. When we (U.S.) sent our first astronaughts to the moon, they were given instructions should they come within contact with an (Other then Earth race) {This is no joke by the way} They were ordered to observe and at all costs not been seen. Should contact be made they were ordered to "Gain Samples" No kidding and return home.

so much for how we would treat alien life. But i could expect an Alien race would think about the same way. More on the Observe part...
