Are there going to be 2 different games, one named Bof Empires and the other Birth of the Federation II?
May I ask what the difference is?
Also, I tried the download of BotE, and installing was a breeze, but I am not sure but I think my screen was to small, my monitor don't allow beyond 1024 x 768.
From what I could read BotF II seems really great. I hope it is ok if I ask a few question, I don't think I found an answer too, although I might have, I am considered rather outthere, when it comes seeing things/messages.
The galaxy will be divided into 4 quadrants, if I understood right, will the different species be divided into these as they are considered in the ST Universe?
Also, although the alteration of the game now is too late, would'nt it be possible to alter the perceptions of the races in the game? The relationship between Romulus and Vulcan would be lower (I think) than 5, meaning content. At the same time, I think the Federation should have a greater goodwill from the minor races than they do now, especially those considered close, such as Vulcan, Betazed, Trill etc.
Sincerly,
TIP
PS! I was going to not ask this, as I know it annoys as no date has been set, but I am sorry, but this seems as such an amazing game that I can't hold back; are we getting close to fruition?

yes, there are even going to be 3 different very-close-to-botf-games.
supremacy, jigalypuff's New Beginnings and our BoE.
well, the difference is in details and let's say "historical" development caused this "mess" . New Beginning sprung off good old Gavin's work, supremacy followed next, and then we/the Germans jumped scene, so you see it's a lot going on here right now
as to the galaxy, we will all hold on to the st encyclopedian definitions which say that all the major players except borg and the dominion are somewhat "within reach" meaning they share an intersection of all four quadrants (picture it as the middle part of the galaxy though sol definitely does not lie in the middle of the milky way but it's the most consistent solution and proposed by many encyclopedian st-sites).
The stuff with the relationships of romulus and vulcans and feds are still discussed in the different game forums. We decided to let this one open and not to be so canonical about it. Otherwise the Vulcans for example should already be part of the feds at the "birth of the federation" as the title says and that would be too much of history for accurate/adequate/fun gameplay.
well the release dates differ for each game. We plan to release beta in the end of 2007. As I know from the others, they won't be too much behind this schedule anyway.
the installation of BoE/BotE on a laptop/widescreen/tft with only 1024x768 resolution is admittedly difficult. But we are working on letting the game at least scale down to 1024x768 but remember, current scale is 5:4 and not 4:3, as that would roughly be, so we have to adapt the menus and stuff which takes a lot of time, so this will be done rather with minor priority I'm sorry. But it will be done, definitely

Have a look at the BOTFII database by Dafedz, its gives most of the information discussed and confirmed over the years.
http://www.trekmania.net/temp_files/botf2_home.htm
Also regarding minor race relations, each differant race has a differant standing with the Major Races. Though it has been written up by Dafedz it's still up to each of the programmers whether they want to add it or not.

At the moment, the only standalone BotF2 games are Star Trek: Supremacy and Birth of the Empires. Jigalypuff has changed his plans for New Beginnings to make it into more of an RTS/Bridge Commander type game (which I'm particularly interested in hearing more about). There is also Star Trek: Allegiance, which is not a standalone game but rather a web-based multiplayer game. It's a bit different than the others and it looks pretty interesting.
As Skeeter said, all the games hosted here have a lot of potential, and I'm interested in seeing all of them reach fruition. Less so for my own game, as I'll probably be sick of playing it by the time it's finished .
Also, you should be able to run the Supremacy demo on your laptop at 1024x768.

Have to admit it confuses me a fair bit, could we put some definitions on the site (like mstobel have done)? Cheers

As Far as the relationship with Romulus and Vulcan goes, I am doing heavy research into this at this time. Canon wise, they actually were in somewhat good relations, other then the problem with Logical thinking.
However it was only touched on in tiny fragments in TOS, TNG and DS9.
I'm not sure if what I do uncover will be useful for the games but it sure will be neat for my story! LOL

I just got mysaelf a new Widescreen PB 19inch monitor, so I am able to play BotE. It is awesome! A whole new demension to Startrek.
A few issues along the way, how do I keep races that join my Federation from leaving, as the Risans did?
Also, is there an English translation outthere? I did download the English data files, but for example info on planets, still show up in German. I still love the game, but my German is rather rusty, and I'd rather not sit with a dictionary and check up everyother word to understand the planet info.
Sincerly and Thanks for a great aøpha-release game,
TIP

okay, ppl seem to demand me to do more translation stuff
well, the planet description is still (amongst other things) hard-coded in german so there's no way to change this right off-hand.
also, there seems to be a bug in the english minorraces.data that leads to fewer minorraces in the game. May wanna try reinstall that specific german minorraces.data from the big 26mb data.zip file (just copy it over with).
glad to hear you like it.
we'll continue to do our best. btw. there are editors available at our german site in the modifications sections. You can edit all minor races (and add new, just that little bugger with the name tags prohibits that from taking effect in-game atm. unfortunately), all diplomatic messages (that goes with plain notepad ) and ships and building stats quite easily. As reference values, you can take the already existing ones for new buildings.
all files that can be edited right now in alpha2-stage can be found inside the english data.zip file.
