Man this is looking impressive, its amazing how much a simple thing like being able to rotate around the map like that improoves the feel of the interface. Intel still looking good. I liked the old splash screen though what happened to it?

like you said, it`s a splash screen, so it`ll show when the game launchs and when a game is loading. do you think it would be better to have that as the intro screen as well?

Yes,I'd appreciate it. Are there plans for a "real" intro, like some animation scene or such stuff[1]?
[1] Like it was in botf although I didn't like it the way they made it... there was not enough action

An animation would be cool - didn't you once say there was going to be an animation whenever a big event happened, such as colonising a system, Jig?

I'm still a bit confused as to why there is a prototype GUI being implemented independently of the game itself... I mean, I don't see how you would integrate it cleanly with what Gavin has been developing. Or is this just supposed to be an interactive testbed for interface ideas?
Either way, it's something fun to play with until the actual game is released. And I like the "2.5D" interactive map view .

i`m doing this because i have started to code the game myself, i have given up hope on gavin. as my name is tied to this project i am insuring it will not fail, therefore i have begun to do it myself.

I thought you weren't going to be announcing that yet, Jig?
Ah well, at least I can now break my vow of silence about it...

I'm sorry to hear that, but pleased to see the development still moving forward. If that is going to be the case, you might want to consider making a list of what is already taken care of (what's been completed or has someone working on it) and what some help might be needed on, although probably in a new thread. I'm sure there are a number of people, myself included, who would be more than happy to offer any support possible.

Eh? You told me yourself, and so did Iwulff...
Besides that, YOU'RE the one who put it up for download...
...
I don't know if it would help, but Flamand made a Planetary defense .GIF for his mod. I've already showed it to Iwulff and Skeeter, and they both said to show it to you - so I was gonna show you it, even if you hadn't asked...
It's a Planet raising its' defense shield, then the orbital weapons attacking, and then the weapons blowing up. (As if you didn't guess that last bit! ) It's three .GIF's put together, which is why it glitches.
This one is clearer, but it doesn't have the Planet in it:
It might not be any use for say...the battle system, but the system screen...?

don`t recall telling you i`m afraid the sort of animations used in civ are of no use with the engine i`m useing, i am hopeing to use sprites as stars for the galactic map, so the stars will be animated, i would prefer however to use a mesh with an avi playing on it, this in my opinion would look really cool, i am hopeing to test something along those lines over the weekend (although i am working all weekend) so i dunno if i`ll get the time to do it

No no, hammondm, you don't seem to understand.
There are now technically TWO BOTF2's - Gavin's one, and Jigalypuffs one.
In the case of Jigalypuff's one, all three of your points <should> be possible.
As far as I know, Gavin hasn't been on the site in several months, and doesn't seem to take much interest in the goings on here anymore. Now i'm not slagging him off - he's undertaken a huuuge project and his life has simply gotten in the way.
Jigalypuff is the site administrator though. He *has* to be here. So if he was leading the project, he would be able to post updates as they happen.
The GUI is a sample of Jigalypuff's work. It has nothing to do with Gavin's BOTF2. It is another game in it's own right - although obviously incomplete.
The devs are not splitting over this, they are still working together where possible. Jigalypuff is not a part of Gavin's BOTF2 team anymore, so there is no need to worry about any such thing.
I hope that helps answer your questions.

Well im not being evil but i dont think we should make a huge deal out of this this is still the BOTF2 site and i know jigs project needs help but we carnt use the site for something ele i know jigs admin and os on but still. Im 100% behind jig with this and i will offer help when i can but this is still BOTF2 site and we shouldnt not forget that and abondon it We just need for gav to get back, But you carnt blame him i mean at the end of the day its onlky a game and real life is relt the most importnat thing in the end.

Jig's been here longer than any of us, SOM - even you. He's the site admin, afterall.
He KNOWS what people want from the game - he wants much the same thing.
There have been no updates from Gavin in literally months, and from what I can tell, even the devs themselves are having a hard time of getting any information out of Gavin about progress or what still needs to be done.
Jig has already produced incredible tasters of what his own idea of the game will be like, whilst all we've had from Gavin is three or four screenies and a whole load of conjecture.
Everyone has their own way, and Gavins' was to do it all himself. I'm not gonna slag him off for it, coz he's done more than I ever could, but there is a point when people start to give up. That point was reached and passed a looong time ago.
It's only thanks to the encouragement of me, Jig, Iwulff, Skeeter, Silvercliff, Trekboy, Billy, and the other main posters that the forums are still running, SOM. During your absence, there was a lot of talk about if the game would ever come out, and a lot of people stopped visiting altogether.
Just a few updates and more openness about the game would have avoided all that, but sadly, Gavin's had other plans.
I haven't lost faith that it will EVER come out, I just think that Gavin has gone the wrong way about developing the game. His decisions have delayed the game unnecessarily, and his personal life has also gotten in his way. You can't plan for those sorts of things, but we've given him close to five months now, and there are still no updates.
We all know what a great modder that Jig is - many of the mods that are out there are purely thanks to him. If anyone can produce an outstanding game that is worthy of the title BOTF2, it's him.
I don't think we have any cause for concern over his vision of the game, coz we already have an idea what it'l look like.

wow a lot of stuff to reply to
@Captain_billy_bacon, yes this is the botf2 site, but i am makeing botf2, also this sitee would not be here if i had not asked afc to set it up and give us the bandwidth
@ moe, you say there are now two botf2 projects, yes there is, however i no longer believe gavins will ever come out, i will not say who else lost faith and began work on there own project, but i believe he will do one.
@ son of mogh, as always your ideas are more than welcome, if you have thought of something new pm me, i will however concentrate on getting most of what has been discussed into the game.
@hammond, if you have dl`d the gui test you will see some .wdl files, these contain the source code for the test, everything i do i will leave open source, this will make the game so much more moddable.
@ everyone, the reason i have lost faith is over a month ago a few of us chatted to gavin on msn, he told us the following weekend he would be sending us a bunch of stuff to be tested, the following weekend and he was on and offline a few times, but not a single test was sent out, not a line of code shown, thats when i finally gave up.
