So by the end of tomorrow, I should have colony ships unlocked, and a nice little T class I've got my eye on. Has anyone else done anything yet with colonizing and hence have any suggestions on how to go about doing it--such as maybe what and how many resources I should shlep along?

By the end of thrusday, I should also have colonization researched. I love being completely oblivious to enemies...

Im not really sure about colonizing, but I know your researches are carried over, but you have to start constructions all over again.

Also from what I saw on my mates account, he started off with the same amount of resources, as you do when you start the game.

So really your gonna want to send over as many resources as possible as you'll quickly use these on your basic mines, but also you wont have a chance in hell building and researches as they'll be at a high level.

I'm at least a week away from colonising - if I concentrate on it - because i've completely ignored building fleets.

I've also had some more bad experiences against Terrab, so I read up about fighting coz this game makes absolutely no sense. Here's some advice about about fighting, guys:

1) Tactical weapons are exactly that: they CANNOT be used for defensive purposes. If someone attacks you and you have tactical weapons, they WILL be destroyed. If you want to defend your systems, build a hel of a lot of small ships, or concentrate on larger ships.

2) You can ONLY build a maximum of 400 Laser batteries - and that's combined! It doesn't mean you can build 400 light batteries, 400 medium batteries, and 400 heavy batteries!

3) Atmosphere Ionisers can only be used once. After that, no matter how many you have, you'll have to rebuild them from scratch. A good attack measure is to send two or more fleets in these instances, as your enemy won't have enough time to build Ionisers again.

4) Research! Researching techs such as Metallurgy and Nano tech can greatly increase your defensive strengths, (Especially for heavier weapons) whilst techs such as Plasma research and HE Substances are great for specialised weaponry systems. Energy focusing increases both offensive and defensive stats, so research it!

5) Build a level 15 headquarter and level 10 Research Central. This opens up multiple constructions!

6) Build depos as you upgrade your buildings and research techs. Advanced buildings and techs require lots of resources and you'll need depos to be able to store the additional respources necessary. Any resources that you cannot store WILL be lost!

7) Research engines. If you want to attack someone, then the faster your engines are, the better. Nuclear-thermal engines provide the most energy, but they are also the slowest engines. If your enemy is more than 30 systems (30 SU) away, use Ion Engines instead!

And to end, many aspects of the game simply make no sense. The people that programmed the game must be idiots. Only having 400 laser batteries is proof of that.

Hello. A couple of questions for you guys:

1. I have built or researched espionage station lev 1, interstellar trade 1, ionization 1 and now I am waiting to build the trading post ( hopefully sometime tomorrow - the resource costs are a killer ). My question is will i'll be able to trade with wou after I finnish the trade post or I need to research or construct other things ?

2. I noticed that when I enter in the alliance window and click on politics the new screen is something like 22 verticle lines. Is this a bug or something normal ? I ask this becose when I enter a scren like production or fleet (and I don't have the tehnology or the buildings yet) a blank screen apears with a message like '"You need a shipyard to build spaceships!" or " You must have researched ship construction to be able to organize fleets! ".

3. Can any of you help me with ressorces after I'll be able to trade, I have 2 accounts and and one other player for each sistem that are more advanced then me ( my scores are around 350 and theirs are 1082 and 482) and I don't now how much time they will let me be. Also I don't have yet the ability to explore and that is frustraiting.


About the RO Alliance's offer : at first it seemed like a reason to attack us but after looking at their alliance info i noticed that they ar at war with 3 others alliances ~A-A~, Hasi and ESH that have at least 3 member each in top 100 so what are their intentions? What do you think ? Any ideeas

Right then, Anty.

1. Forget building the trading post - that allows you to buy ships! if you want to trade resources between your two accounts, build a trading center. If you're short on any resources, then let me or stumpy know. We can trade with you because we already have trading centers. It doesn't matter that you don't have one.

2. Don't worry about the politics window, it's supposed to be like that. It's all lines because I haven't set up the politics stuff for our alliance. There isn't any point in setting up any politics, coz it's all about wings and wars.

We're one big happy allinace, so there's no point in wings, and we're not at war, so...there's no war.

3. To explore, all you need is to build a ship factory and research espionage. Exploration is done with probes rather than ships - and you need to explore a system before you can trade with the occupants, regardless of if they have told you where they are!

Alternatively, you could build the trading post afterall, but ships bought from there are 10% more expensive, because you pay a premium for doing so.

Based on the results of the poll, and my personal feelings, I think we should have a non-agression pact with them, but that's it. We certainly aren't gonna join them.

Ritter, Multiple construction is brilliant - if you concentrate on researching it. When you have multiple constructions, the second construction takes far longer than normal to build, but you can build two things at once, so it's up to you.

Researching multiple constructions decreases the amount of time it takes to build the second building, so it's like upgrading your construction central.

I've literally just completed researching it for the first time, and i'm building a level 18 Frubin Collector (1 hour 32 mins to go) and a level 6 Espionage Center. (1 hour 56 mins to go)

The Espionage Center would've taken me about 1 hour to build if it had been my first construction. I don't care though, because i'm building it at the same time as the Frubin Collector, so overall things are being built more quickly. I'll concentrate on improving this further from now on.

There is a strange glitch that occurs with your second construction though.

Where it tells you how % complete the second building is, instead of saying eg. 25% complete, it now says -435.25% complete. It also counts toward 0%, rather than counting towards 100%. Stumpy has the same glitch as well.

Yeah, don't worry about logging off the game. It carries on regardless. You continue to collect resources, build stuff, and research even when you're not logged in. You can also be attacked whilst you're not logged in, so be careful!

The game is compeltely real-time, so if something is gonna take 3 hours to build, it WILL take 3 hours to build. Build things that take a long time (Eg. Construction Centrals) overnight.

Thanks for the tip MOE, is there a way to be in contact with people when logged on in the game like if I was being attacked could I ask for help etc etc?

Edit: Ah I found some helpful stuff on the X-Wars boards.

You can get someone to "sit in" for your account. Basically they take control of your account whilst you are away.

It might be useful when you go to bed etc. but i've never tried it.

Matress: In order to find out what class another planet is without colonizing it, you need to send a probe equipped with a planetary scanner or an observational probe, then launch it at the specific planet you want. If you send a planetary scanner probe, this will be a one-time thing that generates a report in your Events menu, although apparently the reports only stay there for so long before being automatically deleted (which sucks since I was saving reports on two or three different star systems and can't remember for sure what was what now. I'd recommend you only really do it if you're ready to think about colonizing.)

The second means--the observer probe--stays a bit longer. I think it remains in concealed orbit around the planet for a week and allows you to spy on all of the constructions, active research, and buildings present on a planet for the duration of its existence. In order to access these reports, go to your galactic view and select the "Planet Observation" tab, then select the planet you've successfully sent the probe to. I don't know if this can be sent to uninhabited worlds, though, and a probe can't be successfully stationed in orbit of a player with a higher level of Enhanced Espionage than you.

About the multiple construction, it sounds like the delay is nowhere near as bad as I was afraid. The descriptions made me think it would take 8 hours + to build a level 2 iron mine if you were building something else unless maybe you had a high level of the Multiple Construction research done, which would not be cheap. Sounds like I'll probably want to have that research done by the time I found my first colony after all.

Scream: If you want to send a message to someone in game, you need only go to either the "Events" or "Messages" tab (I forget exactly which one it is right now), and then view your inbox if someone has sent you a message or select the "New" tab if you want to send a message. Type in the name of the player you want to message, type in the message, and then hit send. Or, if you have galactic view available, simply click on the name of the player which shows up in the planetary menu. This brings up a brief description of the player. At the bottom of the first little box of info, there's an option to "Send message." Select this and you'll go to the same "New message" window, but now the name of the player will be typed in automatically for you.

Also, you can always go into the forums. Some of the older players it looks like will bitch at you for posting concerns or questions, but you might be able to find others more receptive and willing to help.
