Yeah, I saw that. I'm quite intrigued to say the least Especially, the part where they say: "...capture a one man weapon of mass destruction" This could have many meanings: Khan? Gary Mitchel? I think both of them would fall under this category easily...

Could that be London on the background? The 4th building on the right of the character (Cumberbatch?) looks a lot like the Gherkin skyscraper: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gherkin EDIT: Did you notice the (not-so-hidden) starfleet insignia???

I don't know Khan wouldn't have returned since they haven't discovered him first (first space seed then twok) It seems that this bad guy does have extraordinary abilities and could be an augment...I also could be Gary Mitchell (The unknown female blonde does have very similar haircut to that character in where no man has gone before)
I hope it's not Khan.

Check the Japanese version of the trailer (it has an extra scene) at around 58 secs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... rHlQUXFzfwThis extra scene clearly reminds me of BTW, this is an alternate reality, so Khan may have popped up earlier than in TOS...

Yeah, that two scenes actually...remind me of TWOK, the red alert on the bridge and the glass scene with two hands...now, could it be a deception?

Wow! That trailer really looks intense. ...I really don't think it is Kahn. Something about it screams of Gary Mitchel. Did you see what I saw? It looks like the Enterprise may have been redone.

PicardJust watched the Japanese Trailer The extra scene DOES suggest Spock's sacrifice to save the Enterprise in the Wrath of Kahn. They've got to be trying to throw us off.

Khan? Agree it is not introduced like Khan in the original series at least. We find him working like a one man WMD augment in a Klingon war zone and not an old earth war criminal on the run. That could all be changed in this time line as you see. In any case he is a Khan-like threat. It just goes to show you really need to keep an eye on those English actors. They are a serious threat.

I had the same thought, they might have refited the Enterprise to be closer to the TOS one It might be Gary, but the sentences like "Your world" and other similar to it might suggest that he is a different species, perhaps even Klingon spy, or Khan, an augmented human from another era

Hmm another thought In that extra scene it Spock's hand looks fine and that other one sick or weak, it might not be Spock's sacrifice

Nah, I seriously doubt it's Gary Mitchell. He only got those superpowers in that episode, which is way into the future from where this movie is standing. It's merely fan speculation (you can read it in the video description )

I am surprised you even talk on that movie, I already hate it by now. It's funny as we have a similar topic on afc but most only rant on it, I think the others went quiet.

I know what you mean, Vinculum. I mean, why would you destroy Vulcan? What's the idea behind that plot twist? The producers must really dislike Vulcans or something...

I beg to differ. Surely, their planet has been destroyed but this makes for a very dramatic setting. Will they manage to survive as a species, given that they are just ~10000 people? What is the role of Spock in all this? As you can see this makes for an interesting story and if the producers really disliked Vulcans they would just ignore them and not put them on the spotlight Of course, we all know Vulcans will survive as they have the assistance of the whole Federation but also they are the favorite species of the audience, so in a sense this is like an ancient Greek tragedy. The characters have to suffer greatly before they are "saved" in the end.

Well, Jean-Luc, I meant it rather as a joke. Had they really hated the Vulcans and wished to wipe them out, they would have come up with a biological weapon that would kill all Vulcans. It's just like you said: they are the audience's favourite aliens and they were struck hard to make everything more dramatic. I really liked the planet itself, so maybe that's why it's bugging me that much.

Vulcans: The species recovers slowly because they only breed every 7 years.

Well the 2009 movie and this movie are good movies IMO (better than most crap these days, like transformers, only explosions effects) but it's bad Trek. In my eyes it has lost that feeling that all trek shows and movies had...that special something...but as I said, these days, compared to Transformers, Battleship, Battle LA (or what was it's name) I'm sure it will be a good movie.

I have to agree, but as JJ had said at some point, they had to take a new direction in order to bring the people back to Trek. Also, Trek is always best during a tv series as the nature of the films are different, ie the film has to deal with something "BIG" but in the series they have more flexibility to deal with other issues. vjeko1701 wrote: but as I said, these days, compared to Transformers, Battleship, Battle LA (or what was it's name) I'm sure it will be a good movie. OK Battleship was horrible, but Battle LA wasn't thaaaat bad! Captain Bashir wrote: Vulcans: The species recovers slowly because they only breed every 7 years. It makes me wonder how they survived as a species in the first place!

I didn't understand at all they felt they had to go "a new direction" when the archer enterprise series didn't work so well as *lots* of people didn't find it fits well to all the shows they made before. But ok, they thought they attract the younger people by more action and a younger crew as that's what other films are successful with in our time. I find that tiresome and it's clear death to the trek feeling there once was. I want old timeline back, Q shall pass by and revert all this mess with the star trek universe.

BTW, the big lesson that I got from the TNG season 7 finale was that all good things must come to an end, even Trek. I don't know, we'll have to wait and see
