So... does that mean you played it? If so, thanks for the nice feedback. I was starting to think nobody was going to download it.

yes, it works fine on XP. My Vista is screwy, it might be cause I had some "experimenting" done on it, so I'll have to reinstall Vista.

It worked extremly well, except a few things that i have suggestions on. I'll send you a PM tomorrow if you'd like.

That's good to hear. There's a lot of little things in the UI that don't work quite right, but they're low priority to fix. I get graded on how well I meet my milestones, and I'm expected to work out the little quirks during playtesting. I'd still like to hear what you have to say, though--maybe you thought of something that I didn't.

Feel free. There's a link on page 2 of this thread. I'll post another link to the auto-updater/installer once I get some webspace procured.

Yeah, there's not really much you can do other than actually installing SP2... which you should probably do anyway :).

SP2 is a virus unto itself lol :D

and considering when i update i get a bluescreen of death upon reset and subsequent resets in such that i have to roll back evrything i installed pretty much kills of that idea.

I mean it's not like micro$oft would release something which would crash your comp before even testing it, hell even if it is a "critical" update lol.

sometimes microsoft incompetence makes me laugh :) sometimes cry :(

:D

i'll probably find i simplier way

Well, you can try unzipping these DLLs into the game directory and crossing your fingers. I doubt it will work, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

yep a good start and looking to be a good game, even the music is working, just a comment on the system production, on the build componant info you could just do with a slide bar thier so you can click down to see the rest of the info

Whoops... I didn't realize I'd forgotten to do that. I never notice because I run it at 1920x1200, so it never gets cut off. Thanks for the heads up :).

Thanks for the DLLs, they did something, before it just crashed now it opens a command window, blinks and gives a trace log. So at least thats a good start :)

Error at element 'Label' in markup file 'masterwindow.xaml' : Unable to load DLL 'MilCore.dll': The specified module could not be found

and

Unable to load DLL 'MilCore.dll

are the two errors, minus the chunks in the middle

I shall find this elusive Milcore.dll :D

edit: just checked its part of winfx so if anyone knows of a way to get SP2 as a whole and not in parts i'd be more then happy :)

windows update keeps breaking it up.

Glad you like it :). Feel free to post anything you want. I think 2006 should be the year of tangible results. Between Jig and me, you've seen a lot more than you saw in a year's time from Gavin, so hopefully this place will liven up a bit :).

I miss a day on the site and you guys post THREE PAGES! 8O

I'd love to see any screenies that people make, since I can't install the game. :(

Would it be possible for me to hear the music as well? :)

...If you don't mind, of course, mstrobel. Who made it for you by the way?

The music was donated--and by donated, I mean I used it without permission--from X3: Reunion. It's just temporary so I have something to listen to while I test it. I may try to recruit my music professor at the university to write some music for it, but he probably has more profitable things to do ;). There's not really much to see at the moment other than what's in those screenshots, but seeing as I have to take more screenshots for my status report this morning anyway, I'll see what I can do.

Wow, remind me to post the correct font. Whatever typeface is getting rendered is huge--looks like 16pt Tahoma or something. In case you were wondering, the text isn't supposed to wrap and get cut off like that :).

I finally got my Vista up and running after some install and driver issues. I've been running it continuously for about 14 hours now with only one crash - that was my fault. I've actually installed enough software to use this as my main OS, after all it is big on the eye candy and the performance is quite nice as well.

Sometime tonight I'll be able to install all the required microsoft software and give the game a go to let you know how it runs! :)

New version published with proper installer and auto-updater. See the main thread post for a link and list of changes (under "Release Notes" at the bottom). PLEASE READ THE NOTES UNDER "TROUBLESHOOTING". It explains a rather annoying bug that might keep you from playing the game. I'll try to hunt down the problem as quickly as I can.

Cheers,
Mike

Great work. But I can't download the file properly. I've tried using IE, doesn't work. Tried "Save target as..." in Mozilla and IE, then when I click on the file it says some files are missing.

Any ideas?

One thing that is needed for the main galactic map is a centre on me, or double click = centre type of interface like that in BOTF, right now you have to use the arrow keys to move around the map

Yes, I agree about the map, it's just been a low priority for the moment.

Coopa, do you have all of the prerequisites installed? If you don't have the latest version of .NET and IE, then IE probably won't know what to do with the file. Problem with using Mozilla is that if you save the file locally, it looks for the install files on your machine instead of on the server.

Also, I posted a link to the correct font right below the download link.
