I REALLY like the Akira class, it’s what the Galaxy should have been, a utility vehicle, both powerful and agile. It always bugged me how slow the galaxy was in combat, the best it could hope for was to stand there firing until it blew up, or to move in a vast monolithic formation of similar ships, ala DS9. I keep waiting for Crusher to turn round and say ‘What do you mean, evasive pattern Epsilon One? You know this heap of junk moves like a beached whale! Just shot damn it!’
BUT….
…my vote has got to go to the Sovereign, what a beast! A warship pure and simple, don’t believe the hype! The sheer power of the thing makes me light headed, I really enjoyed the battle sequence at the end of Insurrection and I know many slatted it, but I thought it was nice to see the ship get a proper work out rather than being battered about by some never-heard-of-before-Sona-weapon. It gave us a chance to get the full measure of the ships abilities. Plus the firing sequence when Enterprise attacks the Borg cube at the beginning of ‘First Contact’ is ace. I can imagine the face of an opposing Captain watching that through his view screen, for about 3 seconds that is!

I like the steamrunners looks and the akiras ability in combat. But my favorite ship design has to be the excelsior
I also like the ds9 cardassian station i think it looks good^^ but this thread is about ships not stations

My favorite is the Akira class. It might not be the strongest, but that is perhaps why i like it so much. We don't need a new serie where a ship is the strongest... we need a new serie with an ship that's needs to be smart to outwin other slightly more modern vessels. Besides an akira is smaller, which i do like. I really think that an akira would become a succes. I guess the producers are to scared to use this...

Paul, the Sovereign would be even better if her Shields were good. Look at how they performed against the Scimitar, 6 torpedo hits and her shields were almost down.

look at it! it looks as though if someone sneezes on top of the primary hull the ship would fall forward onto the saucer. it has absolutely no grace whatsoever.

Hmmm, fav ship huh?
Star Trek:
1. Prometheus (can you say "Bad Ass"?)
2. Mogai Class Warbird (Known as Norexan to most of you but it's called "Mogai" in the new book series)
3. Defiant
4. Vor'cha
5. Armoured Voyager (not a class I know but it still looks cool)
Babylon 5:
1. White Star
2. Starfury
3. Hyperion
Star Wars:
1. TIE Advanced
2. Super Star Destroyer
3. Eclipse Class Star Destroyer (A jet black SSD)
4. TIE Defender
5. MC 90 Mon Cal Cruiser
Andromeda:
1. Wrath of Achilles
2. Glorius Heritage (The Andromeda's class)
3. The Magog Worldship
and to those of you who may have noticed, no I don't post much... (this is my first since I joined on Oct 31st of 04!)

I'd so die for one canon word on this. "Mogai" is the fourth or fith name for that class I heard now and it really pisses me (no offense to you, as you can't do anything about it - obviously). Please go someone and put Berman on trial

Ooh, i'd forgotten about Andromeda. That was a cool series. Wish it was back on telly at the moment...
I'd put the Glorius Heritage class first, with Wrath of Achilles second - it might have been powerful with the extra weapons batteries, but it just ruined the look of the ship, in my opinion.
I never got to see the Magog Worldship in the series. I miss just one episode...
I have seen screenshots of it though. Very nice, very evil.

heh, ok, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that...
but the galaxy, to me, just exudes clumsiness. it just looks far too top heavy for my liking. especially when compared to a sov or an akira, both of which look sleek, and is if they are traveling at warp sixty whilst standing still

True they are more streamlined, which I LOVE
The Akira make it clear she can outmanuevar and outgun a lot of ships.
The Sovereign looks like it's NEVER drop out of warp
And true, a Galaxy is not nearly as sleek as them, but she's a lady nontheless

lol, I kinda share that view on the Galaxy. A ship has to be fairly sleek to get into my good books.
@ftranschel: Mogai is what it's called in the Star Trek: Titan series; with Will Riker and the Luna class USS Titan. I usually take books as canon until they're contradicted by the movies or series'. And since they never mentioned the what the actual class is called in Nemesis, I think this is the only published name for the class. Norexan is what they decided to call it on DITL and I guess that got around.

Top heavy? Does this person know that it is a space ship. Gravity has limited effect and its not designed to go onto planets! Physics in space does not have anything much to do with centre of gravity.
Besides, curves were big back then, not like your scrawny anglar ships these days. The only bummer is that curves are more difficult to model cos there are more polys! I don't think it looks ugly anyway...it does define that era well for the feds though.

But as long as what it says is believeable, and doesnt contradict established canon, it works for me. And if I'm not mistaken, Norexan was the name of the other 'Mogai' class ship with the Valdore in nemesis.

that's all true, but we're talking purely about the aesthetics of the ship - it's spaceworthiness is beyond debate...

Saying that a Galaxy class is ugly compared to a Sovereign or an Akira is like sayin that just because you like the new aerodynamic Ferrari that an old Bugatti 35B is a an ugly piece of scrap.
I think the Galaxy is a Federation classic, but some people just don't like old-timers.
btw, the Bugatti
