Why would I joke about something this serious?
And Billy, I could always call us the Tribble Killers you know...
So anyone have any ideas for a name or not?

If anyone prefers a different name, let me know.

I only skimmed the last 3 pages, buuut.. to clear up one big misconception..
Laptops handle it fine, battery life isn't effected at all -- it automatically turns itself off while on battery power. My laptop used to fold 24-7, unless it was unhooked.
I'd join, but I'd make you guys I see on the team so far look like n00bs; my PPD was over 800 before I switched to BOINC just this week. I'm waiting for F@H to come there (client nearly done) and FightAids@Home. I used to fold for [H]ardOCP, team 33, and my 800 ppd was the result of my trying vigorously to make the top 200 or 300 within my lifetime This 15ghz farm took me a while to stitch together though too, only about half of that belongs to me here in the house. It had been as high as 1.5kppd too, when my girlfriend would remember not to turn her computers off
I can also tip you guys off that the command line version will be better; install her as a service, and it's invisible. CPU temps even on my laptop stayed within a limit that never gave me grief, and even on my laptop, with the most RAM constraints, I never noticed the slow down.
You'll especially notice zero impact if you have 512-2gb of RAM. Even when I run my most intensive tasks (rendering and multi-threaded file compression, using ALL my RAM) it doesnt cause hang-ups, whatever other app is running tends to force it out of RAM and to the page file until theres room again in RAM.
Yeah, so anyway, I'd encourage everybody to run it, for the BOTF II team or not, 'cause really, there's only one excuse I've heard so far that holds water: Someone mentioned their room is hot in the summer. True, a CPU under full load will be hotter, so save it for the winter and fall. Other then that, though.. But personally, I've got 11ghz of AMD chips in a rather small office here in the house around me under full load 24-7, and I just put up with it.. If you want, you guys can look at the papers Stanford has published, just this year -- they've made splashes in just about every major disease you can think of, so it goes to good use.
Hmm.. /rantoff
sorry
If a few more of you guys join, I might bring 4.7ghz (a turion 64 1.8ghz and a 2.9ghz Celery-D) back to join ya'll, so I'll keep an eye on the team.

yer that was me with the hot room, when we get into real summer (i say real summer becuase it hasnt really got that hot, yet) my room can get to 30-35 degrees. but in winter...
so i am folding for now, almost through my first, but then it hasnt been running constantly, i had to close it off for while.

hmm.. 35ºC... is... *google* 95º! There's a fellah with an excuse, I think my computers would all fry themselves at such an ambient temp. I sure know my X2 system would.
Generally though.. yeah. And if anybody has questions and I dont respond (I only check in semi-regular to see if anythings happened), then head on over to HardOCP's forums, hardforum.com, and they're always willing to help out.
They've also got very good setup guides, too, as well as a dedicated linux folding distro (Foldix I think they called it?), an automated cmd line install exe, and links to other apps like monitoring programs.
I wish I'd had that install program when I first put it on my boxs -- I went through the trouble of manually creating a the -advmethods -forceasm -local flags in the service's registry keys. neh.
edit: Just noticed your location, Australia. Yeah, HardOCP's just waiting for you guys to start feeling the heat, their main competition for top spot (back and forth battle) has been Overclocks Australia, OCAU, and while they ramp down, [H] ramps up

Qaz - don't worry about the checkpointing stuff - checkpointing is a GOOD thing!
Checkpointing just means saving progress - they're just evil and thought they'd come up with a different word for it.
You can set the checkpointing to anything between 3 minutes and 30 - i'd set it to 3 mins to avoid any problems and make sure all your work is saved as regularly as possible.
...
It's cool to have a "professional" let us know about the project, CaptRingold. Its a shame you haven't joined, but it doesn't matter. I had noticed that we were up against some stiff competition from the [H]ardOCP people though!

Well done then Silvercliff, welcome to our group.
And I notice that Nemitor_Atimen has done two work units now. Congrats. You're helping science and the game.
My current work unit is taking forever - its been running for 3 days (Not continuously) and has only done about 50 frames. You guys can guess how much my computer is on by how often I post here though.
I've changed the logo for our team - it's a little something i've ben working on lately. I've got the size of the Ambassador totally wrong, () but I think its quite cool.
The program I used (Fantamorph) isn't registered though, which is why that eeevil banner is displayed across the picture.
Of course, if people can think of something better, let me know.

yes that banner is really nasty isnt it, it cuts off half the pic
perhaps a background collage of all the avatars of the members of the group, and something in the front for the project, like a ship or something. what you think?

It doesn't matter about how much you contribute - all that matters is that you do. Obviously the more you do the better it is for the purposes of research, but no one can force anyone into doing it.
...
I've made an avatar for the group - I used your current avatars like you said, Silvercliff, and I added your names in as well. Let me know what you guys think of it, as well as any changes you'd like.
Oh, and I used a different program coz it isn't any morphing so no banner!
*The pictures are in the order that people completed their first work unit.*
If anyone wants a moving picture, then let me know coz I can make GIF's easily using GIF Moviegear and MS paint (That's how i've made all my avatars - and the group one - so far )
Oh, and if it's in GIF format, could you send me your avatar, Michae1ange1o? If possible, could you also send me Billy's as well? He said you made it for him.
I can use them both when I add you guys to the avatar.

I've been trying to figure that out for a while.
As far as I can tell, each work unit has a set number of points, depending on the complexity/size of the unit.
This score is then adjusted by the amount of time it takes you to complete the work unit.
If you double-click on the red cog icon thingy in the taskbar, it'll tell you what work unit you are working on at the moment on the left-hand side.
Check what the number is (Eg. i'm currently working on p1149_RIBO_SEMIHELIX - the number of this unit is therefore 1149) then go to this page:
http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/allprojects
And click on the link numbee of your work unit.
It'll tell you a bit of info about your unit, and it may also tell you how many points your unit is worth. Most of them don't though.
I've updated the avatar again. I made it less about me and more about the group.
http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=46574
*Edit - welcome to the group Billy! I'm gonna have my dinner now, but i'll add your avatar once i've finished, and michae1ange1o sends me your avatar. (Or I can just use the Tribble one )
