All the work from your current unit will be lost be lost if you do that, but some people find that the no-nonsense version is better, since all the program has to worry about is the folding itself - it doesn't have to use any valuable processor power on the fancy graphics or anything.
That's why they call it no-nonsense.
It's up to you what program you use. Since you haven't had any problems with it though, you might find it best to just keep on using folding@home 5.04 beta.

I don't think it alters the speed of the folding but the screen saver is easy and it looks great

This might annoy you guys, but i've found that the smaller the number of frames to complete, the more difficult the work unit is!
As an example, I did a 12500 frame one and it took about a day-and-a-half to complete. My current one is 250 frames and it's taken more than a week already...
This doesn't mean i'm right, since I haven't done that many work units yet, (I've done 10, not 6 as my donator page says - I did 4 for the Google group before I set up a team with my friend) but I haven't found any work units that have gone any differently.

I've been out shopping pretty much all afternoon - but I left my computer on standby.
Folding@home continued to work even whilst the computer was on standby, so if you guys wanted to leave your computer on but were worried about the electricity, that might be an option for you.
Obviously your computer will still be using electricity, but at least it won't be much. You could try explaining that to your parents, TrekBoy.
...
Michae1ange1o, do you wanna be Romulan or Borg?
Obviously this has a big implications for the avatar...
And please don't ask me why the timings between the two are different, coz I spent ages getting them perfect!

Oh yeah, believe what you want Billy.
It just takes one to throw a spanner in the works anyway!
...
Qaz, your stats can be found on this page:
http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=userpage&teamnum=46574&username=qaz79
Put it in your favourites list or something.
Whenever you complete a work unit, the results are sent to a location where the results can be analysed. The central server then updates your personal stats. (In the above link)
The servers update everyone's stats once an hour, so if your stats don't appear as soon as you complete a work unit, don't worry. Just check your page after an hour or so to see how may points you got.
If you want to see how far you're done on your current work unit though, then we can click on a button called "my folding". Since you haven't got the red icon thingy in the taskbar though, try fing the file called "unitinfo.txt" in whatever location folding@home is saved to.
That should tell you info about your current unit.

i doubt it. Standby is like hybernation... the OS stores all data to the harddrive, and slows it down... and then slows the CPU down also.

Like the General said, those things probably will happen.
Your best bet is to test it - make sure the programs are running then set your computer to standby for an hour or so.
When you go back, check on the progress the programs have made. If they've closed, then don't try it again, but if they are still open (And have made progress) then you know it should be ok to run them overnight or whatever.
Like the General also said though, the CPU (And therefore the programs) run slower whilst on standby, so you won't get as much done as compared to simply leaving it on. It does save you <some> electricity though.
Its your choice, either way, qaz.

Strange thing happened yesterday, I have my laptop set up so it will stay active when I close the lid, the laptop still runs but the screen shuts down, last night tho for some reason it didnt, luckily I had to check something before I went asleep and the laptop had been running an hour, the thing was so hot i nearly dropped it, I instantly shut it down and had to use a handy wipe on the back to wet it to cool it down. somehow the folding client reactivated my screen, so you kids using notebooks the same way that i do be aware as I could definately smell melting plastic in the air.
On a lighter note im going to dig my "Hulk" out of mothballs, It has roughly around a 3 gig processor and a gig of ram as well as a 256 meg nvidia graphics card. it's been masquerading as a small table this past year and im pretty sure once i set it up wirelessly i can run it 24-7 and take the strain off my laptop.
