I know this has nothing to do with ST or botf, but are there any engineers here? need to have a chat about a few things for my final year project, and possible someone to proof read it. would have asked people in my class but theyre in the same position! :P

its funny, ive done physics since 1st year to now, thats 11 years, and i only really thought about what a Newton was tonight... scary

I'm a third year biomedical engineering student. I'm not sure if I could help you with anything. What major are you studying and what is your project all about?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!!
That's absolutely classic!!!
Everyone does it! I've been playing with physics since age 4; calculating since freshman year, high school... And yet it took me until last year (age 30) to really get the idea of 'equal but opposite reaction' in the context of energy conservation! Simple, basic stuff, right? But I had to be confronted with a problem in partical momentum within a fusion reacion to really grok it! Boy did I feel stupid once I did!!!

Thank you for sharing

Um... I'm not an engineer. It's doubtful I could help... But I'd be willing to give it a try if no one else steps up... Or even if they do.

im a self proclaimed electronical, mechanical, and network engineer.

i have a stack of papers in my closet with ideas, blueprints and possible patents, and the same stuff on my harddrive.

i have no degree, yet, and im pretty young - but still, im self proclaimed.

im like the spitting image of a geek, other than i dont look or act like one.

I'm a self-proclaimed nothing...I run from physics in fear!

Sorry Undated, i'd love to help, but this is one thing that is simply beyond the Matress... :(

sadly my project is a design project, i have to design a torsion testing machine that will cyclically yield a thin circular specimen. I will need help with the writting of it tho, but if any of you guys have design experience id love a chat with you sometime....

General_Nemitor - very much like myself, only dont have time to think of ideas! :P

i do, we should set up a time so we can discuss it

you see, my CP classes are so easy, i can barely try and still get a good grade.

i h8 that :(

yeah that would be great, ill put together a list of questions, but mainly im stuck on the method to do certain things. For example, I am placing a large force at the end of a box section cantilever to apply a twisting moment to an existing frame, but im attaching it to the frame using already existing screw holes. How will i know if those screw holes will not strip when i apply a load? Just basic engineering that they dont teach!

I really would like to help. After all Serbia is the land where Tesla is born. :)
I might get some blueprints for that machine form collage phisysics computer. Ill must first check is there a blueprint you need.

well you have to look at what type of forces are acting on the screws, now for that its best to draw a picture of the specific situation, there are many things to consider in such a situation. We have to look at them all and pick the worst on and design for that. In the case of already existing screw holes I think that we would be looking a a shearing force. ( do you have a diagram???) I think that i have a picture of what you mean but im not totally sure. If it is a shear force then it a case of calculating if there is enough material to hold them, It usually involves experimentation, but generally someone has already don it and the will have a value for the amount of shear force that the area holding the screw can take. It also depends on the materilas involved.....I could go on and on. But yes get some questions ready:)

Tesla is my homeboy.

Tesla is perhaps the greatest man (besides jesus) to ever walk the earth.

i was extremly happy when i heard that they are renaming the international airport!

you know your a great man when you have your face on a 100 bill, an airport named after you, and multiple statues.

edit

I'll think about it, but this weekend i have to build a steelstring guitar.

I would have been lost in red alert without those Tesla coils.

inaccurate game

but fun - someone needs to make a TCP mod though, no one uses IPX anymore.
