Hmm that is an old game. So erm is it turn based like star trek botf? And is multiplayer able with connecting with directip or do you use lucas servers or can it be used with gamespy? If so i might get my mate to get it and i will too and have a blast with it. Mostly interested in the 3d battles part hehe. |

Haha, a friend of mine recommended that I play Empires At War (the new Star Wars galactic domination game) because he watched me play BoTF once and thought that the game play would be similiar. And it kinda is. It's actually a pretty nice game, but it's not turn-based; which means it's all real-time. You start off with a few planets, you build specific buildings to do specific tasks - but it's more specialized than BoTF. For example: you build a barracks to build marine-like ground troops (with either blasters or rocket launchers). You can build a factory to build tanks/walkers, an officer's barracks to build some minor heroes that will do stuff like increase your field of vision, etc. For starships, it's all dependant on your starbase's level. If you want better ships, you need to upgrade your starbase. I think it goes up to level 5. Also, the larger the starbase, the larger fleet that gets garrisoned if it gets attacked. Also, building ground units/buildings is done seperate from space units/buildings. Thus, you can upgrade your starbase while cranking out AT-AT's. And then the upgrade, start building some Imperial Star Destroyers. Oh, btw... in ground combat: JEDI. ARE. SICK. PERIOD. No joke. I have gotten Darth Vader killed once (if a major hero dies, he goes on a cooldown and then reappears on a friendly system when the cooldown is up.) There was another time where I accidently sent Emperor Palpatine to crush a rebellion on a planet BY HIMSELF. I got scared to death, and was glad that he came with two honor guards for the ground combat, then got mad when the honor guards turned to be crap and died in the first few minutes. So at this point I thought "the faster I die, the faster I can replay the mission" so I sent the emperor on a suicide run. Except... that he BEAT THE CRAP out of everything. What, there's a building attacking me? I'll just click attack, and watch the emperor force-crush the building which ALSO prevents it from attacking back. Oh, there's a group of 10 blaster-wielding sheep coming? *Force Lightning* Oh no, there's another group of 60? I'll walk into the middle of them WHILE deflecting their blaster fire and then use corruption (translation: mind control until the units die, and the corruption slowly damages them and heals the emperor, and now I get to send THEM into battle and let the emperor kick back and sip martinis). The emperor himself is easily the most over-powered ground unit in the game and deserves a GIANT nerf in an upcoming patch. Space combat is fun too. I always build WAY more ships than I'll EVER need. When you enter combat, there is a ship capacity limit, and any ships you have in excess can be accessed as backup as your ships get destroyed. Playing Alliance - you'll want TONS of X-Wings and Y-Wings in backup, which you have to build at a system. The Imperials don't have to build the TIE fighters and bombers - they come STANDARD with every Star Destroyer (this is actually a problem, you can destroy hardpoints on capital ships so hangars are ALWAYS my first target). It's a ton of fun and if anyone picks up Empires At War, I'd love to play multiplayer sometime. |

I bought Rebellion when it first came out (years ago) and had a lot of fun playing it. I haven't loaded it up in years, but Empire at War is pretty much a modernized remake of the game. Rebellion didn't have ground combat, but other than that, they're pretty similar. I was actually quite pleased that it turned out that way. |
