Hello all :!:

Well its def been awhile, but I thought I'd check back in and see how everythings going. To be honest, after gav just disapeared I became pretty annoyed, and stopped coming around. But its good to know that some people stepped up (kudos jig and mstrobel) and now we not only have one version of botf2 being worked on here, but two. Its also good to know that some of the familar 'faces' are still around and posting.

I've been looking around at the new stuff, and what I've seen seems good. Can any of the regulars direct me to some interesting threads in case I missed anything?

Also a quick question to either of the programmers, or to someone else in the know (I'm looking in your direction moe  ). Roughlyhow far along is either version of botf2? I'm sure there is still quite a bit of work left with both, but I'm just curious to see roughly how far along either project is.

I'm not sure about New Beginnings, but ST:Supremacy is still pretty early in development. I'm pretty far along on most of the data structures for in-game objects (ships, star systems, production projects, etc). I haven't really touched the diplomacy or intel systems at all. Virtually none of the game logic is in place, though I can adapt a lot of it from my old Supremacy game. I'm currently working on the network core, and when that's finished, I will be able to start developing the graphical client alongside the backend to test the new features. At that point, I can start releasing incremental test versions to show my progress.

As you can see from the Supremacy forums, I've already done some work on the UI side of things. It's a slow process, because I'm trying pretty hard to do a nice, clean implementation (and not just a hacked-together jumble of code like the first Supremacy game ;)). That way it won't be a nightmare to modify, and it'll be easier for other people to help me with the programming later on.

OMG. I wish you hadn't asked for one of the 'regular's' to direct you to all the useful links etc.

MOE is going to be overtime typing up his BIGGEST thread ever! lol

Good luck reading it all!

Mwahahahaha!

So you what links eh, Rigel?

Hmm...where to begin...

Well the obvious one to start off with is my uber-post:

The Shiplist

There's also The Database that Dafedz created for the game(s).

There's the Old Supremacy Thread if you want to see where Supremacy started off, and the New Supremacy Thread to see where Supremacy currently stands.

There's the Musicians Wanted Thread if you want to listen to some smaples of music that people have created for the game.

More recently, there's the New BOTF2 Thread for info on the German project - i've got one of my big posts in there coz one of the German programmers misinterpreted an earlier post that I made. I've also got an explanation of some of the news etc. in there, which you might find helpful to read.

...

There's one thing that I think would be pointless to link to though, and that's the news that Gavin is back, Rigel.

Gavin has explained his disappearance to Jig, and he has told us that it was for personal reasons. I trust Jig enough to accept this answer, especially since Jig didn't go AWOL on Gavin's return; quite the opposite, in fact. Jig was happy to see Gavin return.

Please don't ask for more of an explanation because I simply cannot give one; I don't know myself, although I can make an educated guess - but I won't.

Anyways, welcome back, Rigel, and err...happy reading.

Keep up all the good work guys. If you want any help with proofreading or something similar to that, let me know, matress.
