If you have not already seen it....

Personally, this sounds like it will be very similiar to Star Wars Galaxy. That game was rather disappointing. And they had the Force.

The problem I see is that any Star Trek will focus on the ships and the technology for them. Unfortunately, a ship is going to require immesnse team work in order to function (or it won't be canon), and it's difficult to get all parties involved to agree. If your helmsman decides he doesn't want to go to that particular planet, what do you do? And if your security officer decides it's funny to keep the shields down? Short of sticking to runabouts (also not canon as there are tons of ships), the only way I could see any ship-system being used is to allow everyone to captain their own ship with generic orders. This pretty much turns it into a first-person Starfleet Academy. Whoopdie.

And anything short of ship to ship experiences will be well short of any Star Trek expectation.

It's been a while since I looked into the game, so some things may be different now. Last I checked, though, there was only one side you could join (and it seems to still be the case). So... I'm guessing there's no compitition available between players (aka - pvp). Kinda lame considering how awesome the ship battles could have been.
