Ok, this thread is purely to avoid people spamming the ship movement thread. There's obviously a lot of people that like Starfleet Command 2, so we can discuss it here instead.
As I said in the ship movement thread, Missiles were definitely my favourite weapon for pure killability, but for coolness, I can't decide between the Hellbore and the ISC's PPD.
What weapons do you guys like to use?
Do any of you mod the game? And if so, what do you change?
Me personally, I like to mess around with the stats of the ships. I usually reorder the ships as well. It really annoys me that the Excelsior ISN'T the most powerful Cruiser as standard, but it is in my modded games.
I usually modify the program by hand, although I recently found the amazing Eagle Eye shipedit program. That really makes life easier. You can get it from

I only own the 1st one, starfleet command neutral zone. Didnt play much of it as its a bit too much work to enjoy. I like BC more cos you can just dive into battles and can move in 3d etc.

SFC3 also focused on modern Star Trek (after First Contact). The only thing I didn't like was the upgrade system. I mean, it liked it... but didn't. I hated how you had a "mass limit" and couldn't upgrade past a certian point. If I wanted to make my ship all shields and weapons with speed and mobility a minor concern than damnit, I should have been able to!
I found it difficult to find a nice compromise between power and agility, especially on the Soverign. More agile ships are a royal pain, so I'd sacrifice power (I almost NEVER installed weapons for the rear arcs) to be more agile. But then I'd get drilled and take some massive hull damage from some heavy hitters, so I'd beef up my shields and weapons. And then those pesky agile ships are keeping behind me again like a very annoying mosqiuto that wouldn't go away. It was quite frustrating.
And in order to have a maneveurable ship, you had to equip it with 2 weak phasers and a torpedo tube (quantums were too heavy).
The idea was great, but I found it too restrictive. Perhaps increasing the capable mass or reducing the mass cost of upgrades would have made things a bit easier. Otherwise, the game was great until it started crashing on XP SP2.
