Hey everyone, I have just gotten back into playing BOTF after a 4 year hiatus... needless to say alot has changed since I have been away.

I went thru some posts on the sister site and noticed people talking about 200 ship task forces... thats amazing, since I was only about to field about 50 to 75 starships total.

Then I saw this site and seen BOTF 2, it sounds amazing and I cannot wait until its release... but I have a simple question.

Will you need the original BOTF to play it or will it have a CD-crack like Pacific General?

I also hope that the AI on BOTF 2 is better than BOTF, the original has some terrible AI problems. It reminds me of PacGen alot... I used to design new campaigns and scenarios and equipment files for PacGen, so I know something about terrible AI's.

Hopefully I'll get to see this new BOTF by X-mas.

The game is fan-based and there are "THREE" differant versions being made at the same time none of which will be finished before Xmas i'am afraid.

Because it's fan-based it's free and you won't need to use the old CD, my guess is you'll just have to download the game when it's complete.

Where's Mattress when you need him :D he's so much more informed then I..... :D

Allegiance is webbased, and will require no download or cd at all, only an internet connection.

Four actual versions huh? Does anyone have any idea why four? I mean what is the difference between them?

From what I have read here at the forum it really doesn't explain the differences in detail. I do like the fact that the Dominion was added in place of the Ferengi. I also like the new starships for New Beginnings, does that shiplist coincide with the other versions as well?

I always liked playing as the Cardassians before, but I may try the Dominion once these new versions are realeased.

Either way, this is a positive for all gamers. It is great to see people trying to make the gaming experience that much better. Like I said I did the same thing with Pacific General and Star General, as well as Panzer General 2.

Thanks for the input guys.

Okay, I am a dumba$$. Which one is the web browser game and how does one play the aforementioned?

Sorry about all the questions... but I am glad you are all being patient with my rhetoric.

the browser game is Allegiance (previously known as BOTF2BE)

it is currently in alpha stage, and in a few weeks the beta will be ready. Most of the coding is done, and right now we're fixing bugs and getting ready to make a public beta.

it IS opensource (at least for the time being), and i'll be releasing the Alpha 1 code any day now.

Just so you know, John, these games are not modifications of the original BotF. They're completely new games built from scratch. I mention that because you asked if you'd need the original BotF CD to play.

As for a release before Xmas... maybe Xmas 2007.

I got the part about them being from scratch. That just amazes me that we have great fans that are willing to spend their own time working on such an endeavor.

By the way, can I download this alpha version of Allegiance? If so, where?

Well anyway, Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Hey there John, welcome to the site! :D

The Alpha version of Allegiance wasn't really a game as such - it was more of a test of whether the Federation could beat us poor Romulans into a pulp via cheating and a lack of communication.

The game requires you are connected to the Hamachi network before you can even acces the site - so you will need permission and the access information from Nemitor.

Anyways, there isn't any point in all that because nemitor's server is offline - theres no game without a server. :(

I'm sure that once the beta is released, you'll be able to test it though.

If you want to try a demo though, there's an old demo of the UI of Jigalypuff's New Beginnings game in the Downloads section of the site and there is a demo of MStrobel's Supremacy in the Supremacy UI Thread as well.

...Or if you're thirsting for information, check out The Database and the Shiplist.

Have fun.

yeah, and I doubt anyone could figure out how to get it to work.

Thats the major reason why I havnt released it yet - its hard as hell to get working.
