My Wife and I were watching Voyager yesterday, has we have been since Jan 2nd, and she made this statement. " I hate the Janeway" She is either so full of herself or is a total snoot! A complete wishy washy package and has no business on a star ship..."

All I could do was laugh... And i tld her I would post it here .. Knowing there are more then a few of you who are a fan of Janeway! lol

I'm surprised though, Voyager was my favourite Trek (Closely followed by DS9) and I though Janeway was a good Captain. I would've thought more people would defend her - and obviously so does Winter.

Are there really fewer of us Janeway likers than I thought? 8O

Lol i like her, tho i do get iffy about her in season 1 as shes way too crap as janeway in that season.

i have no problem with her - other than in season one she wasnt that good.

Well, I guess her voice has something to do with it. Here in Argentina we are used to watch the episodes fully translated (even then, her voice is a torture) but when I watched some of them completely in english, I seriously thought: "Hey, it would be nice if some Cardassian would put her head on the wall of his office".
Then again, I sometimes like the personality of the character. You need to keep in mind that is a quite different circumstance, and that she also plays the role of a 'mother' for the crew.

Anyway, my favourite is Sisko. That guy sure has a great personality (you can see him in almost every possible mood) and I particularly like when he gets mad. (obviously, the actor who plays Sisko does make a wonderful job IMO)

I am most surprised at the reaction my wifes statement has recieved. MY thoughts on Janeway are as follows. First season she relied to heavly on her new found crew including Neelix ( A Wanna Be trader or otherwise known as a Delta quadrant sell out)

Understandable that they are lost 70,000 light years from the Alpha Quadrant. Fine. Get our butts home.. understood, Might as well gather as much information as possable while were here.. okay makes sence.

Seska.. Said it all. It was Janeways responcability to get them home. She in fact did get them into that mess in the first place.

She justs lacks a real command presence. They were Not a ship built for discovery but for war. Had she only focused on getting home gathering intel and on occassion set up relations for future contact that would have been fine.

As Far as who would have made a good captain I think they had the right woman, just the wrong writers for her part of the overall story...

And Kennith needs an award for his choice for Captain.. LMAO!!!

I have to agree with Mrs. Winterhawk and Mike - I hated Janeway. She was just... annoying. I mean, I'm all for female captains and I realize that some females have this "no-BS attitude" about them... but it seemed that Janeway tried a little too hard.

Speaking of Nelix, whatever happened to him? The ENTIRE last episode should have been about him! Here's a dude that chooses to be 70,000 lightyears away from his home. How's he doing? What is he doing? How's he doing with the ladies over in the Federation? Does he get abducted by Romulans? Do Klingons challenge him with duels to the death? Are people digging his spots? I mean.... so many questions....

Neelix left voyager before they got to earth.

Janeway was OK at first, in the first few episodes, but later she really did become a snotty, agressive ..well, you know what.

She and Sisko have no place in Starfleet.

Janeway betrayed Starfleet, changed a perfectly good timeline (for the Federation) all becouse she couldn't handle the loss of 2-3 officers. What a WUSS!!! A person like that does not belong in the captains chair.

Sisko..well, he is like a gorilla on drugs, totaly agressive and breaking the line constantly. Bombing a world wiht bio weapons is unthinkable in Starfleet..besides, the actor is bad..especially in the begining when he overacted..

I loved Voyager...but on the writer issue i'd have to both agree AND disagree.

Voyager started off well. The writers had some really good plans for where to take the series - but these plans were turned down by Paramount.

They had planned to make Voyager more along the lines of Battlestar Galactica. It was going to be edgy and gritty, but it was also going to focus on the family aspect that (Apparently) made TNG so good.

Voyager was going to be a ship that took damage - and kept it. She was going to be slowly repaired or upgraded with alien technologies as time went by, and she was going to suffer constant problems with lack of supplies, power, and so on.

Paramount turned these ideas down because it would've meant that they would have to do all the model graphics from scratch for every episode. This would've taken longer and cost a lot more money. Paramount is a business after all. The less spent and the more made the better.

You really can't blame the writers for these problems, and surely having your amazing fan-approving ideas turned down would've lowered the morale of the writers?

You then have to think of the turnover of the writers. Voyager wasn't consistent because it was written by different people. The only way you can have a consistent series is to have one writer, a "rule book of canon" that details EVERYTHING that is established in every episode, and have Paramount happy to do anything for the good of the series - NOT for the good of their pockets.

I think that's what went wrong with Enterprise as well. Paramount pushed too hard for an all-new series. They should've waited a bit longer after the end of Voyager before starting a new series, they shouldn't have interfered so much, and they should've gotten writers who actually knew about the series and WANTED to make a show that would be a success - basically the fans should've been involved.

But they weren't. Paramount pushed ahead with the wrong writers, and it was boring - but it was "right". The whole point of Enterprise was to establish the beginnings of the United Earth and the events that led to the birth of the Federation - yes it was about exploration, but it would be about exploring what we already "know".

Ratings plummeted because the writers didn't have the foresight to see this. Paramount pushed for more action, a new alien evil, and we got the Xindi. A race no one had ever heard of before, and yet it was one that almost destroyed Earth, and apparently would've stayed at war with the Federation far into the future. Surely they would've been mentioned somewhere in previous series?!

These changes put even more fans off, and by the time Paramount had realised their mistake and managed to put things right, it was too late. Hardly anyone was watching it, and the networks started shifting it to time slots where even fewer people would be watching. The ratings plummeted again, and by the time Enterprise started getting good, (The Earth-Romulus war) it was too late to save it.

In my opinion, Paramount should sell Star Trek to another company that actually wants to make it work. That's the only way the franchise can possibly hope to get out of the rut that it is currently in.

Janeway is and alwasy will the most annoying women on a startship ever......

With these strikes taking place the Canadians will move in from the north, while those in the Southern American Countries sweep up from the South. Set Phazers to Stun, Once we have full Control of Paramount then Myself, Matress, Skeeter, Nem, and Eon will take over Admin duties. We will set the Timelines and correct the storylines to be consistant. Others such as Jig and Sir Puk will take full control of the gaming aspect.


Together WE can win this war of Greed and make a more compelling Star Trek Series/ Movies, Games Ect.
