This project is ultra cool as we all know.

I was thinking about the things that are gonna be tricky to implement and was wondering what you guys have planned. The main 1 is voices, ships, galactic map (diplomatic messages received etc).

I mean, the sounds apparently can't be lifted from botf so how is this being dealt with?

I guess other sounds can be created or pinched from elsewhere.

why do we need sounds from botf?

You don't, with weapons warp effects, music etc- can get them from any star trek dvd.

Was wondering about the ingame voice. You know the "our intelligence operatives have news" etc. Was wondering if a voice actor will be required or whether help was needed locating the samples elsewhere. :D

never heard that in botf before, it`s normaly text is`nt it? but getting what we need is a simple case of editing stuff we can get a hold of. or if you ca nspeak klingon then you can do those for us :D

Hmmm I know Qu'Pla.

Every turn in botf there was 1 or 2 voice samples saying 'diplomatic messages have been received' or 'select a planet to terraform'. Not to mention the ships saying 'aye sir' etc (although I could do without that, especially the girly scream when a small ship blows up.)

I know nothing from botf is required, and this game may not have any voice samples at all, but I can see if I can find and generic sounding st phrases on dvd or whatever if they may be required.

We could use computer generated voices, i;m sure there woudl be some good programs that would allow you to change the way a voice sounds in detail, so you could make them sound like differnt races

Here's a Solution to voices! I think that this will do the trick. You can create custom dialogue! :D

Re: Audio

Well if anyone has the bucks and can imitate the inflection of some of the characters and has a microphone and the DVD or some other audio files I would think that this would be a great way to go to making custom vocal tracks of our favorite Star Trek Characters.

I was thinking about it for BC Files and Custom Missions tracks.

Anything to help!

Now I'm reading some very old posts, but would be interested to see if anything was done with this one...

Yeah, who is doing the voices/what (If anything) Is being done about them?

Could the old ones be used, or does anyone want to volunteer and submit their voice to the game? :?

I'd definately do that as far as there would be an translation effort.

The Two absolute best things i liked about BOTF was 1: The Unique user interface and design for each species, and 2: The unique Music and Sound effects (ie clicking icons) each species had.

I hope it can be repeated in BOTF2, even if it means "Borrowing" some of them :D

Post subject:  Re: Voices and other tricky stuff

Yeah, I really liked how that was done in Starfleet Command 2 as well (Not sure about the other Starfleet Command games coz I never played them) but all the reviews I read hated the games for it! 8O

The interfaces really made the game, and it was a real surprise when I played as a different race for the first time!

I don't care if there are people out there who think all the interfaces should be the same, as far as I care, the more varied they are the better. :D

Thats probably illegal or a breach of copyright :o

The interface in Starfleet Command 3 i thought was very good and that yuo could completely do what you wanted. A implement i would like have been added to Bridge Commander - the idea to explore where you want
:D

A lot else is being copied from BoTF (including even the name :P) so I don't see why ripping some of the sounds and voices would be a problem. Just a simple sound recording program, play BoTF for 30 mins and bam, you've got your voices and sounds :)

we ca nuse a lot of the ones from botf, thanks to dcer and his editor. others will have to be edited or made.

I actually never had problems with that - I just hadn't been able to sing for quite a few years. :P

Just get in contact with Jig, I suppose. he'd be easier to reach than Gavin.

Perhaps they could come up with a script for you or something?

Is there a definitive Romulan language? I know there's a Klingon one as i own the dictionary - if any one wants words out for the i script please contact me :D

Post subject:  Re: Voices and other tricky stuff

There are some canon Romulan words and sentences heard in various episodes. But for as far as I know there is no complete dictionary or gramar. If you search the internet you can find several lists of phrases, but that's about it.

hmm i liked the old computer voices for BOTF but the music it sacred me i would rather have the FC music at the beguining of the film wit the credits it sounds nice and at the beguning of the game as feds it would really be a good choice and for Romlans you could have Nemisis music!

I would love to volunteer as one of the voices of a smaller race in English and as a voice of a major race in German. (Because I'm German and in English I guess I've got a strong German accent.)
