Has the new server been found and used allready is that why the whole of afc was down yesterday because it was all being transfered to a new server? |

AFC was down cos the hosting company (managed.com) has gone bust, Last i heard they are still looking for a new host, but money is a problem. |

i have sent afc a message via icq and am waiting on his response. once i know were we stand with a server i`ll inform everyone, zack as i said in the pm it`ll be up to mike if he wants to migrate to a new site but if server trouble continues then i suppose it`d be the sensible thing to do. personally i`d like to keep everything here. |

I'd prefer to keep everything here wherever possible, but if we have to move then so be it. As long as we can transfer at least 99.99999999999999999% of the forums (The remaining 0.0000000000000001% of lost stuff can be everyone else's posts ) then we should be fine. Starting from scratch would be a real bugger, and I doubt many people will like to reregister with a new domain. ...Then again, it would also help to clear out all of the dead user accounts, as i'm sure there are plenty of. Let's face it, we don't have 2363 posters on the forums, do we? |

There would be no need to lose anything in a transfer. All forum posts and users are stored in the SQL Database, which can easily be backed up and transfered. The only thing that needs to change is the domain. As for pruning out old, unused accounts, that can be done with a simple database query. |

delete from tblForumPosts where user = 'Matress_of_evil' (5439841897532145890 row(s) affected) Oh, you said inactive users? Whoops. |

I believe that affected row number is still a bit stingy .. |

lol, I think they were talking about inactive users - not silly users. |

I think that pruning inactive users would be very bad. We would go to 2368 to under 100 in a matter of seconds. Big numbers = good. |

under 30 I think is more correct... |

This site now needs a few new emoticons - I demand emoticative revenge against Azhdeen! And if you check, my post count is only 3435...3436...*ahem* If the site is going to keep dying like this, we really are going to have to consider new servers. I doubt the lurkers would be very happy with a dead or dying site - and neither do we. |

So any news on the server, and whether downtime will be a regular thing? |

I don't think the "bandwidth exceeded" issue has anything to do with moving servers. We're probably just generating too much traffic. |

Post subject: | Re: AFC sites restored? |
well if it was 1st of may already I'd agree but why would the site be open again before the month is over unless someone paid some extra money? just a quick question that came to my mind, why different servers for regular botf and armada afc and botf2 (downloads of bote already run over the botf1 afc site!)? Last time only the botf2 site was down and looking at site stats, I don't think we generate that much traffic just by the 3000 page visits a day.. |

Post subject: | Re: AFC sites restored? |
were useing the botf site for downloads due to a scripting error in this site which causes dl`s from here to fail, dunno why this is. bandwidth exceded was from the move, afc set it wrong for this site. |

It sure slowed the pace of conversation down around here, being down for those few days (it was finals week for me, so maybe it was longer, it's all a big time warp to me). I guess it might take a week or so for everybody to realize it's up again. |
