As I understand it, we have backups of everything should we need them. We'll just have to wait and see if AFC gets new hosting. I think it would be best to stay on AFC and keep the old URL to avoid confusion, but if AFC goes down permanently, we'll obviously have to move.

I would suggest putting a backup of this entire forum and PHP nuke site somewhere - that way if the site goes down again, people can just head over to the backup domain.
If you establish a backup now, you can send out a mass PM telling people the domain of the backup, for them to use if this one goes down again.

I have copied the data I need to keep working. If botfii is offline for a time the work will not stop.

Nemitor says he has a recent snapshot of the forum database and phpnuke site. We should be safe for now. Just gotta hang tight and see what happens with AFC.

So why did the site actually go down? I heard rumours of hosters being sued but no one actually said precisely what was going on. I prefer the BOTF2 forums to the main AFC forums coz I err...know them so well...
At least we have BOTF2.com for storing all the game stuff. Actually that's a good point - could we use BOTF2.com for site backups?

I wouldn't recommend using botf2.com for site backups since they are best made and kept "secret" on an admin's hdd. such a backup can be misused in the wrong hands in various ways if it can be downloaded by everyone.

Since the SharePoint site (botf2.com) supports item-level permissions, it would be trivial to upload the backup data and prevent anyone other than admins from seeing it. I keep backup snapshots of the Supremacy source code in the Supremacy SharePoint library, but only I can see them .
