We need to hear from you. Please submit voice recordings and compete to be heard in the BOTF II games. Samples of submissions will be posted here. The game developers will chose what recording they wish to download into their version of the game. (ASK ABOUT OTHER TASKS IN THE JOBS AND POSITIONS SECTION) As a new recording is made available online at sites like http://www.esnips.com/SignInAction.ns?action=forcesign we can put the link to it under the text in the listing below. That way you can hear each submission for the specific line of text. The game developers can then pick the one they like for that line of text. Even if someone has already submitted a recording here feel free to post your own version of the reading. One trick I use when recording is to put my headset microphone down below my chine. If it is in front of your mouth it can pick up breath sound that interfere with the quality. A good quality microphone is a must. My Plantronic headset with USB connection seams to do OK. A jack connection can be a source of signal distortion. When you make a submission please be specific about where it goes. State the id of a listing you already see such as 1.) General game notifications, a. "Selection Confirmed." If you do not see it already listed please say where you think it should be. An example of this would be 3.) Klingon, -please add "the romulans have no honor". Then put in the link to your recording. They sound better than my recordings.  Keep up the great work.  (just kidding about being upset.) You have a very rich voice.
If you want to record the Klingon as well I can up the base and repost them. That would be outstanding in your voice.  It is what I want to hear.

Wow...your voice is deeper than I imagined it would be Mike. I agree with Kenneth, you would be good at doing the Klingon voices - just make it less courteous and more aggressive. 
...Not that your Cardie ones are "bad". They are very good. It's just Klingons are big, ugly brutes just waiting for a chance to prove themselves. They need big, manly voices. I'm the obvious choice, but I err...have a case of the lurgy at the moment...yeah, that's right, lurgy. 
Are my old Federation ones still going to be used or has anyone improved on my attempt? |

We have a unanimous vote of two. You have to do the Klingon Mike. All the recordings are there on SharePoint as you can see. The devs decide that to use. Only the recordings by Centurion_VarDin were not moved in. That is pending him getting a better microphone and re-recording. |

mstrobel, questions: Is what you recorded all we will really need for your game out of what I made up for each race? You are the Bose and I have just been guessing at what might be needed. I noticed you recorded that a station will be constructed and a station is complete. The recordings before said outpost and starbase. Is all we need station? Should I look at re-recording the outpost and starbase to simple be station? Comment: I took the liberty of downloading your recordings. They were very clean. There was maybe only one that I did any amplification on. Some I took a little bit of silence off the end of the clip to reduce file size. Only one had an extra noise I could cut. Having done that I uploaded the files I worked on into the existing file structure using the naming format already in place, (CardAlienDiscover_Mik.) Your original files are still as you left them in SharePoint. The "new" ones are new files in the old sub folders. So you are a genious with killer good looks and a great acting voice. Is there anything you can't do? |

@Kenneth: I'll probably need a couple additional recordings that I haven't thought of yet, but the ones I recorded are the only ones that I think I'll need at this point. Since Supremacy features several different kinds of stations (not just regular outposts and starbases), and the differences are purely theoretical, I only need "station construction" recordings. As for the recordings themselves, I used a free program called Audacity to do the recording. I then used Audacity's Normalization feature to normalize the audio to within 3dB of the max threshold (the "amplification" you speak of). I then ran the recordins through Audacity's noise remover, using the lowest setting. I already tried a couple Klingon recordings, but I couldn't get them to sound quite right without being so loud that the neighbors could hear, so I'll wait until sometime during the work week when nobody's around and then try them again .
I definitely wouldn't myself as a genius, merely obsessive compulsive. "Killer good looks" is beyond generous--I'd describe myself as "not completely unsightly" . As for my voice, it is rather versatile, and it honestly doesn't record very well (sounds much better in person). I've been told I have a very "commanding voice". So I'll do what I can.

@mattress: did you catch that? We need you to record, "Construction of a new station is underway," and, "A new station is online." These lines will be added into the Federation Build sub folder on SharePoint. I will add these lines into the race lists above, record what I can and track down the other contributers over time. Let me assume the outpost and station are still usable or could also be used in BOTE. I will leave them on SharePoint. |

Voices recorded Kenneth. Do your thing to the files and add the reverb and whatnot. I've already deleted the silence at the start and end of the two files. I've uploaded them straight into the Federation folder - you'll have to rename them and whatever. I'm identified as _Mat when you do.

As you may recall we added in the two voice recording lines for each race about building a new station and about putting a new station into service. This last week I was able to record the last voice actor needed to have a full set for all races. The Romulans now have these lines at SharePoint and we have a full set of all the lines listed above for all races. It has been in the back of my mind that we could have two or more voices for each race. It would seam more interesting to alternate from one Romulan voice to another. We could do this for all the races. As with all things in these games the demigod devs decide what will be. If you still want to submit recordings for one or more of the races we can upload it to SharePoint along with what is there now. |

Sounds good - The cuddly loveable Borg sure are fun to intone.. In the past the devs asked for MP3 format as standard for the audio. If you are unable to convert the files just upload and I will see what I can do. I am passable fair as Ferengi due to my whinny sounding vice.

I do like what MOE did with the background Wolfe. The one I just listened to on SharePoint was not quite as nice. It seamed a little over produced. (like overkill on the re-verb or whatever making the voice harder to understand) I would like to add that kind of background to all the audio. Rather than do them all let us wait for the Devs to say what files will be used. Save some work... I wonder if some background could play during the menus and even in the game as you build, do diplomacy..... Put some background sounds on SharePoint for use by others.

I cannibalised as many files as I could from Armada that sounded like they could be used in some way. I imagine this will have to be done with all the voices, unless they're particularly short. Ooh, I've just thought about Starfleet Command. I'll see what I can find in there! 
*Edit - oh bugger SFC has 355 sound effects. This is gonna take me a while... *Edit the second - ok, that's another 60 sound files that people might be able to use. I've uploaded them all to sharepointfor you guys.
Some of the sound effects are from non-canon races - the Hydrans, the Lyrans, the Mirak, and the Interstellar Concordion. It obviously doesn't matter what you use them for, but just in case you were wondering, that's what those names mean.
