It may be scary, but I think it's the boy that is the scary one. He shot the poor creature! That kid needs to be taught a lesson, and where did he get the gun from? What idiot lets a kid play with guns? |

come on matress! He was LEGALLY hunting! He had the gun because he was licensed to carry it, and he was supervised by his parents and multiple guides. He was taught his lessons - he went through Hunter Safety courses and training. I'm legally considered a kid, and I've gone to the shooting range many times. and it's not a 'poor creature' |

It is that whole right to bare arms thing in the US constitution. I have seen some really large hogs like that dressed up like people and shopping a WalMart. I wished I was packing just for self defense. BTW Where I live it is legal to carry a gun as long as it is not counseled. This does not extend to juveniles so stay in the toy section of the store if you want to be safe. |

You forget i'm from the UK. We've banned guns over here - i've literally never seen a real gun with my own eyes (Ignoring TV of course) and that's the way I think it should be. Oh, and we banned hunting here too. |

Quote: "It feels really good," Jamison, of Pickensville, said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. "It's a good accomplishment. I probably won't ever kill anything else that big." I have nothing against raising animals for food, but killing just for the sake of killing is barbaric. There is no great accomplishment in slaying a creature that is unquestionably inferior to yourself. I mean, if the pig had done something horrible like eaten an orphanage full of children, then that would be different, but as far as I can tell from the article, this boar did nothing wrong. |

mstrobel wrote: A beast that large is extremely rare, and probably quite old. It should be respected and protected, not killed for sport. Agreed completely! mstrobel wrote: I have nothing against raising animals for food, but killing just for the sake of killing is barbaric. agreed again! However, he did get lots and lots of meat off of the animal, which doesnt make it killing for the sake of killing. |

It would be more sporting if we armed the pigs or at least fitted them with kevlar. |

Kenneth_of_Borg wrote: It would be more sporting if we armed the pigs or at least fitted them with kevlar. they dont need any help. Their tusks are extremely sharp, and though they dont look it they can move FAST. Boars are extremely dangerous around populated areas, they tend to attack for no reason, and get quite large. However, I partially agree sport hunting is not right, in some instances it is used to control an ecosystem that we(as in the human race) have sufficiently ruined. And WTF ... all of you(myself included) are working on/supporting games that strive to do just that. pit empire on empire in a struggle for the galaxy!!! ... its the same concept, just on a bigger scale(only difference is the games are fake). |

The only difference is that we are making the game so we can do it over and over without needing to worry about ethics and the little people. Technically we're saving the planet here! |

wow.. big pig. Personally i'm against hunting for sport. It should be done to contain populations and be done by parkrangers and such. Quote: (only difference is the games are fake). |

Im against hunting full stop. Think it's inhuman and the only time its necessary is for self defense. However i do find it hypocritical for me to say this, when i'm not a vegetarian! lol Love meat too much to give it up! |

Hmm.. Quote: "There are hidden contradictions in the minds of people who "love Nature" while deploring the "artificialities" with which "Man has spoiled 'Nature.'" The obvious contradiction lies in their choice of words, which imply that Man and his artifacts are not part of "Nature" -- but beavers and their dams are. But the contradictions go deeper than this prima-facie absurdity. In declaring his love for a beaver dam (erected by beavers for beavers' purposes) and his hatred for dams erected by men (for the purposes of men) the "naturist" reveals his hatred for his own race -- i.e., his own self hatred. In the case of "Naturists" such self-hatred is understandable; they are such a sorry lot. But hatred is too strong an emotion to feel toward them; pity and contempt are the most they rate. As for me, willy-nilly I am a man, not a beaver, and H. sapiens is the only race I have or can have. Fortunately for me, I like being part of a race made up of men and women -- it strikes me as a fine arrangement and perfectly "natural." Believe it or not, there were "Naturists" who opposed the first flight to old Earth's Moon as being "unnatural" and a "despoiling of Nature." Robert Anson Heinlein The Notebooks of Lazarus Long That said, that kid makes all hunters look bad. |

Yes we are a part of nature, and thus we can destroy it or make it better. For the beaver example.. there is a big difference with beavers creating a dam or if humans do. Beavers improve there surroundings and the environment, they are thus improving nature. I doubt that this is the case with manmade dams. |

A butcher near where I live sells boar meat though. Some boar escaped from a speciality farm near where I live a few years ago. It's happened in a few places in the UK actually - and now they're breeding like rabbits! There is supposedly about 1000 of the animals now - which is pretty good, considering they were hunted to extinction here over 400 years ago! 8O Some of the boar are now being captured and killed for food - but there is an obvious premium price tag for the meat, and they can't be killed for sport. There is a debate going on about possibly culling them for safety reasons, however. It's kinda funny really, coz now it's like they are trying to get revenge. A woman who was out riding on her horse a year or two ago was attacked my a group of them for no apparent reason! |
