While trying to find a suitable map of the Milky Way Galaxy so I can start figuring out the more intricate details of the BOTE plot (I could use some help on this BTW) I came across something that I am sure will interest many people here. An article about a star cluster being shredded by the Milky Way Galaxy. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.mpia-hd.mpg.de/Public/Aktuelles/PR/2002/PR020603/fig2-hr.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.mpia-hd.mpg.de/Public/Aktuelles/PR/2002/PR020603/PR_020503_en.html&h=1598&w=1998&sz=104&hl=en&start=40&um=1&tbnid=Y2Wfe7hYJyNiZM:&tbnh=120&tbnw=150&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dmilky%2Bway%2Bgalaxy%2Bmap%26start%3D20%26ndsp%3D20%26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26channel%3Ds%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DN Quote: Sky Survey Unveils Star Cluster Shredded By The Milky Way Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, and Heidelberg, Germany  A team of astronomers from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) collaboration has discovered a spectacular stream of stellar debris emanating from a star cluster that is being torn apart by the Milky Way. Here is something else. http://quasar9.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html Quote: The planet, designated HD 209458b, is unlike any world in our solar system. It orbits so close to its star and gets so hot that its gas is streaming into space, making the planet appear to have a comet-like tail. This new research reveals the layer in the planet's upper atmosphere where the gas becomes so heated it escapes, like steam rising from a boiler. |
