http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?p=2754402. Go have a look at this thread, it's really worth a read. I do not agree with his super-weapon and full-3D talk, but I think there is something to it when he says it's basically a +15% accuracy etc. in newer techs. However, star trek is full of good things to be implemented canon-wise like omega-particle planet destroyers (no, I don't want these ;)) or subspace anomaly creating devices which for example could slow down an enemy fleet. Basically it would be nice if it'd be possible to actually develop these things in a rare, randomized and cost-intensive special tech branch and use it on your ships and planets. Also planet cloaking could be an option. Why not encountering a strange space being that tells you about this cloaked planet and you get the chance to actually copy that technology. Or Q helps you to (slightly) rearrange your planetary systems so they are more concentrated around your homeworld if you're too unsatisfied with that god gave you .

anyway have a read but be aware, it's a game company forum, just saying..

Strange beings that know of a cloaked planet? You obviously haven't watched TNG lately Mal. Planet Aldea was hidden for centuries behind an advanced shield that also acted as a cloaking device; it was so effective that knowledge of the planet became myth. Aldean technology provided everything the Aldeas had ever wished for, and their race began to stagnate - they forgot how to repair their technology or even how to use it. But the shield that had protected them for all that time had also destroyed the planets' Ozone layer, exposing all life to ultraviolet radiation. The Aldeans were the only living things left on the planet by the time that the Enterprise discovered them, but the discovery of the planet wasn't a coincidence; the ultraviolet radiation had made the Aldeans sterile, and their race was slowly dying out - so they stole all the children from the Enterprise in an attempt to repopulate their planet.

A special research branch would be interesting...but i'm not sure. Maybe it could go in my list of extra things to be done later, but I really don't know about having superweapons in Supremacy. Besides, if you want Superweapons then just go play Armada!

nah, I don't mean superweapons, I mean just canon-related devices and yes, I meant this cloaking of the aldeans. anyway, it would be nice to think about something that actually changes conceptual things with newer techs. Doesn't have to be superweapons. Maybe you discover transwarp technology and are able to install transwarp knots linking far-off planetary systems or you got a one-time time door opened where you can invite a small group of rogue individuals from the future with their better ships like the time traveller in those tng episodes and those "mercenaries of time" help you in conquering the known universe (they help you cause that means a better life than they have in the future ;)).

I don't know anything like that. One needs good canon knowledge of the series though to get something "canon" out of this.

maybe, but I want to have that fixed to our special tech branch, makin it a little less linear so to speak. anyway I was thinking of "enemy-ship-system-disabling"-weapons, i.e. not destroying but with the possibility of later-on capturing of the ship. Is there any trek episode dealing with "energy-absorbing" weapons that completely annihilate all energy sort of gomtuu-like?

I concur, Voyager had a few as well as TNG, jsut recalling a few eps where Riker has opposing ships engines knocked out, but not cause real damage, (nothing that time for repair would not correct.

Me, I'm all for being able to disable shields, engines, specfic weapons systems, then being able to do boarding parties and possably "steal" the ship, (provided your opponent does not blow it up once you board her! lol

Now the Devs can correct me on this, but my thinking tells me thats a lot of extra code to write, then you have to set variables such as time lengths of battles, number of attempts a player would be allowed to try, as well as the possability of it bugging the game.

I'm not trying to shoot the idea down.. I like it.. this is just what my pea sized brain tells me.
