Hello

Can anyone tell me of any new Star Trek game which is like Star Trek: Judgement Rites game

I don't just want to create ships etc. but I want to go on Away missions. I loved my old Judgement Rites game.

Is there any latest title which is similar to Judgement Rites, even if it includes Ship building, it should also include Away missions, solving puzzles etc.

Can anyone suggest any titles ?

I get the impression that Star Trek Online will do just that. In that game you will be a crew member on a ship. You will beam down.

In our game you run a major race. Our game will grow to have missions in that players will have to react to random events. These will be based on classic trek stories and will need your response. Set at a galactic map and then ship level you will not see ship interiors or control one crew member in our game.

I have looked at Star Trek Online, its MMORPG, and its online. I need a game which would run on my PC. Not much of an online gaming guy

Do you know of any titles be it star trek or any other game which gives us missions to complete rather than just building ships and shooting each other..

The only game I can think of along these lines is Star Trek: Away Team, and i've never even played that so i'm not entirely sure if that's a good suggestion. I only know of it thanks to Youtube lol.

If you're after any general Trek game recommendations though, a good one is Shattered Universe. It's a little on the old side, and was for the Xbox and Playstation 2 not PC (I only played it coz my friend lent me his Playstation, i'm still a Nintendophile lol), but instead of fighting with huge starships, you pilot fighters - and use them to take on the big starships lol. The game follows the crew of the USS Excelsior when it swaps places with the crew of the ISS Excelsior of the Mirror Universe, thanks to an accident involving a localised Ion Storm. Unfortunately, the ISS Excelsior was being hunted down by Captain Chekov of the ISS Enterprise, the Klingons, AND the Romulans before the switch takes places, so Sulu and his crew not only have to find a way back to their own Universe, they also have to fend off the mirror Starfleet, the mirror Klingons, and the mirror Romulans. The missions include fights against mirror Universe versions of the bad guys of several TOS episodes, including the M5 multitronic computer (The Ultimate Computer), Balok, (The Corbomite Maneuver) the giant space amoeba, (The Immunity Syndrome), and the Planet Killer (The Doomsday Machine). It's a great game, it really is, and is only made better by the fact it has Geoerge Takei doing the voice acting for Sulu.

Thanks for the suggestion but sadly i dont own any consoles. I only play games on my PC :) Which is quite powerful, if I may say so :bigthumb:

I am looking at Start Trek : Bridge Commander
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/sim/startrek ... lt;title;4

and here are the results of the Space Sims
http://www.gamespot.com/games.html?type ... platform=5

I am watching their gameplay videos to see if its what i need.

Focussing on PC then, i'd definitely recommend the Starfleet Command series or Star Trek Legacy. And if you go for Legacy, then download yourself a copy of the Aftermath mod, which we have a Dedicated Subsection Of This Site for. We're expecting a big new release of the mod in the next few months so there are plenty of things to look forward to with that game. :)

Thanks :)

I think there are 3 version of Starfleet command I, II and III. Which one should i go for ?

I will try Legacy out as well, but it had very low score on Gamespot. Nevertheless, I will try it out since you have suggested it.

Thanks alot for your help.

Presently, i am downloading Freelancer, Freespace 2 and Star Trek Bridge Commander

It depends what sort of thing you like. I've never played either SFC1 or SFC3, but i've heard what they're like.

SFC1 was obviously the original so has the oldest graphics etc of the lot. A lot of people say the original is the best though. SFC1 occurs around TOS era.

SFC2 is SFC1 improved. The single player game is pointless though. It's got a decent storyline but the ingame map is pointless and you just end up muddling through the missions. There are tons more missions, ships, weapons, and races than in the original though, and the graohics are better, if a little on the low resolution side compared to modern games. The game comes with a really complicated interface that lets you control virtually everything about your ship, from which systems have power priority to which enemy systems should be targeted by hit-and-run missions by your marines, or the number of tractor beams that should be activated to defend against incoming drone weapons (Missiles). The interface could frighten some people off at first, but trust me, it's worth getting used to it. I absolutely adore the the SFC interfaces. Like SFC1, it also occurs around TOS era, although it is set after the events of SFC1.

SFC3 is different to the previous two games. It takes place around Nemesis time I believe, and has a dramatically simplified interface and better graphics. You can also choose precisely which systems you want to equip your ship with, such as weapons and shielding systems. Since SFC3 is a newer game, you *might* still be able to find multiplayer servers that still work as well.

...

Legacy has a low score because the game loses purpose after you've completed the storyline - it has very little replay value once you know what happens. The storyline is actually pretty good, but it's rather disjointed in places, and isn't realistic in how the storylines involve only the famous ships of Star Trek, ie the Enterprise. I would've preferred it if captains of other vessels played a role in the game too. It's great how the storyline ties in several loose threads from across the films and series though, and all of the big five captains get decent parts in the game, they don't just feel like a gimmick, except maybe Janeway as she only appears so close to the end of the game. The only patch that the game received actually ends up breaking another part of the game as well, so it wasn't the best supported of games. But worst of all, the game has terrible replay value, as though the developer thought people would buy Legacy only to be able to play their preset mission. That's where the Aftermath mod comes in though.

Aftermath adds in new game modes, such as one-on-one, skirmish, and survival. It also comes with overhaulled or brand-new models, reduced hardware demands but simultaneously improved graphics, new weapon types, many new maps, historical missions (Paradise Lost is my favourite, I love wiping out Starfleet with the Defiant...even if that's not what you're supposed to do hehe), and even ships from the Terran Empire.

Now obviously there are other mods out there for Legacy. But i've neve rplayed the, nd frankly don't want to. Legacy is all the mod I need. It really is that good.

Thanks for a detailed reply. Its very much appreciated.

I will defenitely try out Legacy and the Aftermath mod.
I am looking at the aftermath details here:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/star-trek-leg ... -aftermath

Quote:
As many people now know, all development on Aftermath 2.0 has officially come to an end with Add-on Pack F. Aftermath 2.0 was the most successful Aftermath release to date and not only made its way to many people but saw the mod gather recognition for its efforts in showcasing the best aspects that the Legacy engine is capable of to not only the Star Trek modding and gaming communities but also to the much larger modding communities thanks to heavy exposure at ModDB.

Since late September last year, I decided I would like to do another major release but wanted to hide development of it until the time was right to bring it to public attention. That time has come. Aftermath 3.0 is not just additional features thrown onto 2.0, this new release is a complete rebuild of Aftermath and Legacy itself. Everything that made Aftermath in the past has come in for mass overhauls. Everything in 3.0 is changing.

The first change you will see is the introduction of Legacy's most advanced interface to date, the Nepthys GUI. This new type of interface has built in Ascension features plus many new features of its own such as the QID (Quick Info Display), Showcase Applications and Media modules. Apart from the new features, the interface is a complete new and original design taking the Romulan themed interface into new territory. The minimal look achieves a sense of elegance yet a sinister overtone to bring the interface into a life of its own.

Something very new to Aftermath are the inclusion of new music from one of our new team members. All new music making its way into Aftermath 3.0 are composed by Ermis Koukaris. The track playing in the video is one of his tracks and is the new theme track to the 3.0 intro video. Ermis also has come up with new music for the interface and other races too. More area in the sound department has been made by Trekky which are new effects for some of the new and older races that are in 3.0

Aftermath 3.0 not only ventures into sound for the first time but also into the graphics department too. Featuring a new dynamic lighting engine that gives off more defined light, the changes have resulted in more consistent shadows, more tonal depth to the lighting and more realistic shadows. Other changes to our graphics have resulted in higher detail in the ships and in the environments themselves.

Another groundbreaking effort for 3.0 is the first true enhancement of the Legacy performance engine. What does this mean?? Well through much streamlining of key areas of Legacy, we have officially been able to improve the performance of Legacy itself for all different users. The minimum requirements have been relaxed to allow the low end users more performance without the need to upgrade their computers. High end users have been reporting far smoother and solid gameplay. It is still early days in our performance development but reports from low end users are showing the most improvements with a framerate increase of 40-50%. Mid range users have recorded frame rate improvements averaging around 10fps. High end users have also been reporting frame rate improvements. All this has been achieved along with new graphics to put Aftermath into a league of its own.

As Aftermath has always pushed the boundries, we are also introducing new races into Aftermath. What these have to do with pushing the boundries is one of the races heads into new territory; the Terrans are becoming a seperate race. However, they arent just getting seperated from the Federation. The Terrans will have their own design lineage. This means there will be ships unique to the Terran race such as the Bangor class. Some Terran ships will still be of the Federation with extra's variety but this is the first time the Terrans are being treated as a seperate entity by giving them their own sense of individuality. Some ships already in Aftermath will make a shift over to the Terran race. For the time being, the Terrans are one of a few new races that will be in Aftermath 3.0.

New races also mean new ships. This will be our first release where we pay attention to adding ships into Aftermath. Most of our new ships are developed in-house by Max Loef, Fluxx, Firetroll and Skeeter but we also have ships coming in from the community. Some ships that are making their way into Aftermath are not just a first for us, but also their first venture into Legacy.

AI has always been a very big part of Aftermath and with 3.0 that is no different. Unlike other releases where we have made improvements to the AI, 3.0 sees the introduction of the EAI system (Emotive AI). No it dont mean our ships will throw on the water works when coming under fire, the EAI is the most in-depth AI system created for Legacy. Each race displays their own characteristics and their nature is shown more evidently through characterisations that the EAI emulates. This level of depth is something that has never been attempted before in Legacy and is our largest code undertaking we have attempted since our first physics overhaul.

The team has also expanded too. As mentioned above, Ermis Koukaris is one of our new team members. Newcommer to Legacy modding is Efigy, a new team member that will be assisting myself with promo and be trained in other areas of Legacy. Another new team member is Pheonix from UUM. Pheonix has become a permanent member on the Aftermath team and has already started contributions to the release with ships and more.

There is much more coming in Aftermath 3.0...

That's it - the download is a link on the left-hand side of the page. Download the game, then download Aftermath 2.0, then download each of the addon packs in order from A-F.

Aftermath 3.0 is still a month or five away (I know coz i'm one of the playtesters hehe) so there's no point in waiting for it - try 2.0 for the time being. If you copy the entire contents of your unmodded Legacy folder into another folder as a backup before you mod it, you'll be able to perform a clean install of Aftermath 3.0 the moment it is released. I've actually got three copies of Legacy on my computer by doing it this way. Or alternatively you could create a separate folder so you can install one of the other Legacy mods that are out there.

Legacy doesn't have Away Missions either. The Aftermath team have released a video for Aftermath 3.0 On Youtube if you haven't seen it yet though. The music for the video was by Sandman, who was originally making music for Supremacy until AndrewJT unfortunately caused us problems. Anyways, there are plenty of other video links for Aftermath videos on that page, so check them out if you want to see what the game is like before it finishes downloading.

Hello Matress

Just played the following games

1). Star Trek Bridge Commander
2). Star Trek Legacy
3). Freelancer

I really did not like Star Trek Legacy, especially the ship maneuverability was bad.

Star Trek Bridge Commander's, ship maneuverability was much better and the graphics are better than Legacy, even though its an old game. Legacy also lacked detail. I did install the
Aftermath mod.

Freelancers' was a good game, but a bit buggy.

I enjoyed STBC the most but i have uninstalled all of them. None of them were good enough.

I am installing FreeSpace 2 now, lets see how it comes out to be.

If you think ship maneouverability was bad, you probably won't like the Starfleet Command games as the ships are way slower at turning than in Legacy. I actually like SFC and Legacy because of the slow ship turning - it's much more realistic that the ships take a long time to turn. If you've downloaded Aftermath, try playing as the Defiant class - I actually find the turning is so fast on it that it is difficult to handle. :P

The above 2 star trek games were not to my liking, so I have already uninstalled them. Deleted all the source files as well.

I am installing Freespace 2, it has got a lot of good reviews. lets see how it goes.

After Freespace 2 , ill go for X3 Terran Conflict.

I think the only good stroy line with puzzles to solves etc. was Mass Effect, I loved that game. Now Mass Effect 2 is coming out :)

Mastress, i have just played Freespace 2 modded, man this game is VERY GOOD, an excellent game indeed. By far, the best space sim i have even played. I have yet to try out X3 Terrain conflict, but this one just blows me away :)

You must try it out.

I've got X2: Reunion, but i've not got X3. I've not played much of X2 really because I found it glitchy and the tutorial was non-existant. The game didn't even come with a manual so I had to press buttons randomly to figure out the controls. I've tried following the storyline but I keep getting stuck inside an asteroid with no obvious means of escape. I love the combat in the game though, especially with the smallest, fastest ships. Not that i've actually managed to get far enough into the game to actually be able to afford anything of decent size. :(

X3 got great reviews.

Also, have you tried Freespace 2 ? If not, my advice would be to give it a try. Best space combat sim i have played so far.?

Just check out its Ratings over at Metacritics

http://www.metacritic.com/games/platfor ... espace%202

But you would have to Download the Mod, Freespace 2 SCP
