I just got Star Trek: Countdown (the comic) from Amazon. Has anyone else read it? My first impression after reading it is that it's very good despite a few plot holes here and there or the somewhat unexpected reaction of some of the characters (at least from my viewpoint).

Also, I don't want to give any spoilers away but as I see it, the comic ends with some hints as to why the supernova that destroyed Romulus was so huge...

You can find some details at the wikipedia article:

I'm also wondering if it is considered canon or not... According to the wikipedia article: "When asked whether the filmmakers' involvement in the comic made it canonical, Orci stated he was in no position to declare whether it as such, though he felt it could easily remain as such unless it was contradicted in a future film."

I've not read much Trek anything really, let alone a comic. I've got a TOS book, but i've never sat down and read it properly and I can't even remember which one it is off the top of my head lol. I don't believe anything is considered as canon though unless it is actually onscreen. Anything written by DC Fontana is usually considered to be at least semi-canon though, as Fontana wrote many TOS episodes, and had some involvement in TNG. A lot of people also consider the recent Titan novels to be semi-canon because it is canon that the Titan exists (Riker announced in Nemesis that he was leaving to captain the Titan)

Yes, I agree, but the thing with the comic is that it was written by the production team (Orci et al) and labeled as the "prequel to the movie". So, I guess this makes it at least semi-canon or something ...

Canon to the alternate universe time line where old canon is only one possibility.

I am looking forward to it. Did you order it online?
