does anyone know what the ports that need to be open in order for botf to work in multiplayer ?

what operating system are you on?

Here is 2 posts on ports for routers/firewalls for BOTF.

First is for ports persuant to BOTF direct connect (TCP/IP) and any other game service. The game services may also need other ports open i.e. (MSN ZONE).

If it is firewall simply turn it off whilst you play botf, simple!

If it is router then these are the ports you need to open to play botf:

47624 UDP
2300 TCP
2350 UDP

To open these ports read your router manual

I open them via Virtual Server options, called Port Forwarding.

i.e Incoming 2300, Outgoing 2300, TCP, 10.0.0.3 (10.0.0.3 being the address of the device that wishes to use the port).

Of course that won't be the same for every router but I thought an example would be a good idea."

Games that use DirectX require additional ports to be opened to successfully play through a firewall, proxy server, or router. The ports that need to be opened for DirectX games are:

P.S. I ran into the same problem with not connecting. In my case, my DSL modem hardware firewall blocked the games access to the internet.
I contacted my ISP and they had me disable the hardware firewall temporarily for the game. While surfing and playing I still use a software firewall, that I had to configure by allowing the game to start an initial connection and set up the access. After that it all works fine.

I forgot 1 other possibility...

DirectX version on the 2 computers may need to be the same.

i.e. both computers have DX8.0a or DX9.0b , preferably both would have the same newest version.

P.S. BOTF was written with DX6.1, so there are alot of versions in between 6.1 and 9.0b.
