Here is 2 posts on ports for routers/firewalls for BOTF.

First is for ports persuant to BOTF direct connect (TCP/IP) and any other game service. The game services may also need other ports open i.e. (MSN ZONE).

1. Here is the link to the post... (admin can delete if inappropriate)

"Direct play error could be alot of things but it's most likely 1 of 2.

Firewall or Router.

If it is firewall simply turn it off whilst you play botf, simple!

If it is router then these are the ports you need to open to play botf:

47624 UDP
2300 TCP
2350 UDP

To open these ports read your router manual

I open them via Virtual Server options, called Port Forwarding.

i.e Incoming 2300, Outgoing 2300, TCP, 10.0.0.3 (10.0.0.3 being the address of the device that wishes to use the port).

Of course that won't be the same for every router but I thought an example would be a good idea."

2. "Here is a MSN ZONE post for ports at ZONE..

Some games will not load if your computer system connects to the Internet through a firewall or proxy server unless certain TCP Ports are opened in the firewall or proxy server. Most work, school, and public computers are connected through a firewall or proxy server for security. If you have a cable or DSL modem, you may also have a firewall installed. To open these ports, consult the help files for your firewall software or contact your network administrator or IT technician for assistance. Ports that need to be opened to play MSN Games:

80 (To access MSN Games website and Puzzle, Word, Trivia and other free Web games.)

443 (To use .NET Passport sign-in option.)

6667 (To use chat. Necessary for all multiplayer games.)

28000-29100 (To access Card, Board, “CD-ROM Required, and other multiplayer games.)

Games that use DirectX require additional ports to be opened to successfully play through a firewall, proxy server, or router. The ports that need to be opened for DirectX games are:

6073
47624
2300-2400

For additional information on this go to:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;240429 Alot of information at this site. "

P.S. I ran into the same problem with not connecting. In my case, my DSL modem hardware firewall blocked the games access to the internet.
I contacted my ISP and they had me disable the hardware firewall temporarily for the game. While surfing and playing I still use a software firewall, that I had to configure by allowing the game to start an initial connection and set up the access. After that it all works fine.

I forgot 1 other possibility...

DirectX version on the 2 computers may need to be the same.

i.e. both computers have DX8.0a or DX9.0b , preferably both would have the same newest version.

P.S. BOTF was written with DX6.1, so there are alot of versions in between 6.1 and 9.0b.

Good luck and Happy gaming.
