is there any common standart version of botf you used to play? this question especialy goes out to those who played in clans/leagues (i read in here somewhere), but still to those who cant stop playing single player even when its depressing and the same all over again
i mean i tested some versions of botf 4 ever (includes planet mod, moral mod, phaser mod etc...). i got an installer which just fixed ship costs, planets, moral and graphics, but the running ship coasts are to low so you go arround with fleets 300+ and each fight is unplayable... then i tried a res file (only version which changes menü background) and this one is still my favorite (on botf original version 1.02 with xp fix
i start it from a vcd image wich is even the only one still working... we (me and my small botf playing comunity) got 2 original cds but they were scratched during lan sessions the image could be played but not burned, damaged somehow dont know why^^ every other one i downloaded didnt even start
so my config is:
vcd image form original cd
patched to 1.02
res changed to a 4ever res with new graphics, moral mod, a small kind of planet mod, longer battles and other ship lists (5 different warbirds etc, but not updating during research :/)
im not sure if the defaint can still cloack as i prefer, maybe i'll have to edit it myself (it worked on some installation, but never again)

i was busy with this configuration:
No upgrades
planet mod, where the Jungle and Terran planet will grow with much more food boni, and some planets just will have a lower pop.
patched to 1.02 + XP patch
Starbases are much stronger and also longer to build because of changed to the cost, i could also change the build rate of the troop transport or the colony ship, that might be intresting.
Ships have a lesser maintance cost.
Klingons have cloaked vessels this is balanced in the game, by cost, lesser shields and stuff.
bigger Neq'Var and smaller K'Vort same goes with the two warbirds.
Some changed buildings
I think that's it

The version that I have, has BOTF 1.02 (No XP patch, I run on windows ninety eight) <Sorry, but for some reason, when I put an eight, the cool emoticon is put there instead>It has the Phaser/Torpedo mods, the Planet mod, and the Titans mod.
I've downloaded some programs to alter the files as well, so i've given all minor's structures a morale bonus, and made other changes.
I also heavily altered the stats of the ships, for a bit of fun (Like a Sovereign has 6540 shields, 1870 hull, Speed 2, Long range, 32 Phasers, 19 Torpedoes, max stealth <not cloak> and max shield recharge...)
I modded every ship in the game, as well as bases, which really do need an Armada to take out, even with the Uber ships that I made!
Battles take forever thanks to my changes!

The Titans mod is at this link: -
http://www.stcd.sgnonline.com/botfmods.htm
(Third from the bottom of the list)
Once you download the mod, MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR YOUR STBOF.RES FILE BEFORE YOU TRY TO INSTALL IT! The installer sometimes glitches and actually deletes this file! (So the game does not work, and any mods that you have previously installed will be gone! - trust me I know this from a LOT of experience!)
If this happens, paste the backup back into your BOTF file, then send me an email. I can send you the files you need, and some instructions on how to install them without the installer (If you need the instructions - I don't know what you or anyone else is like with this sort of thing - No offense if you a know how to do it) My email is under my profile.
...
This is a good modding website, but it is running a bit slow at the moment, since they are going through some changes, and have a new administrator.
They have mods for a lot of other trek games though, so try this if you want to check them out as well: -
http://www.stcd.sgnonline.com/mods.htm
(Their mods for Starfleet Command and Armada are good)

i tried a version with lower ship coasts, but the only effect is taht you have more ships, difficult to handle in battle and it takes more time to load a round / battle (the round time depends extremly on shipcount of the computer)
